I think they should revisit pilots stamina and g stress, with these new misssiles, ebcuase while it can be relativley easy to jam teh wez stayign below 1500FT fromur opponent, it does at the same time have a massive impact of stamina, and situational awareness. I would redo thsi same tet, but in a very overcast situation where you cannot see the ground or the sky, you would probably lose compeltely sense of eorientaton and knwowhwere is up or down somewhere between teh 2nd and 3rn turn...if u factor in darkness and a very low plafon of eg below 800 meters it can make things much much more interesting

Awesome fight GS. That was my first HOBS dogfight in PvP since the update came out. You can see the progression from round 1 to round 4. Soon ill splash you more consistently in those dogfight lol. TacView is realy important in this one. Good job and ill see you soon (through my HUD lol)

A old block 1 Falcon pulled from the boneyard equipped with AIM-9X missiles could ruin the day of the best Russia has to offer. Okay great an R73 is dangerous too, but Russia can’t afford a 1:1 k:d ratio in a shooting war, it just doesn’t have enough planes for that.
round 4: honestly it speaks wonders about the growly's flying & maneuvering skills, forcing the wez & making 3 consecutive aim9x missiles miss is nothing short of some superb flying. hats off growly.

I play War Thunder(I need HOTAS before I get into DCS), and the best aircraft mounted missiles in WT are AIM-9J/P, Matra Magic and R-60s. Seeing this video really makes my mouth water.
You think missiles are too cheap. Each 9x might cost over 500,000 to 600000 USD ( DONT TRUST WIKIPEDIA) SO 1.3 MILLION ESTIMATE IS WAY OFF. MORE LIKE 2-2.5 MILLION
I know the R-60 or AA-8 is far more deadly also. I have a bunch of 1v1 missions set up with the AI, and I was always able to dodge the first missile and get the Soviet jet to merge. Now, no matter where I seem to go, or how many flares I use, it always seems to find its mark. I suppose I can set up trigger points to get him to react after the merge, but for now he always wants to shoot me in the face before the merge lol.
Have a go at changing the Gun Ammo to HEI rather than HEI-T, without the tracer the opponent won’t know when they’re being shot, could catch them off guard!
I wonder what would medieval knights think if they could see that just a few centuries later soldiers moved from horses and spears to supersonic metal dragons that spit fire through automatic arrows capable of doing 19Gs
If you look back at the Israeli Python-4 from the mid 1980s, then the R-73, ASRAAM, AIM-9X, PL-8, PL-9, R-74, and IRIS-T, you start to see why fighter pilots for decades now have basically emphasized staying away from WVR merges as a pillar of tactics. The WVR fight is more dangerous than it’s ever been, and that’s before a 3-9 line merge already. Whoever has PID first at distance and gets solutions sooner with a good escape plan is in a better position. This isn’t even the AIM-9X Block II or III. Block III AIM-9X is a BVR capable missile.
not really, at least last I knew, F-22 mod uses FC3 F-15C avionics for the most part, and still doesn't have a helmet mounted display, meaning it can NOT perform high off boreisght shots, which should actually REDUCE its advantage against the Viper and the Hornet as THEY will take full advantage of this change, tbh, I don't know if the Raptor mod can even carry the 9X, thought it was stuck to 9M
@@johjoh9270 Raptor can keep the WEZ jammed more consistently though, and even without a HMD the 9X still has a reasonably respectablr off boresight angle
@@dsdy1205 need to acquire target with the radar on the Eagle (Raptor uses the Eagle avionics in the DCS mod AFAIK) though, or so I think, haven't used the eagle in a while, so if that's the case, not that much better than the M, missile will perform better yes, but what I mean is if you throw a Hornet or a Viper against the raptor both with 9Ms, and then switch them both to 9X, now the hornet or Viper got something new to use against the raptor, or at least try, while things really don't change a lot for the raptor as it still has to point its nose around, with the M, hornet or viper post merge weren't an issue at all, with Xs you really gotta pull harder to jam the WEZ to avoid their HOBS while you just can't do the same
@@johjoh9270 in that case my first point of the Raptor being able to turn tighter and jam the WEZ better is still true, so if the F22 plays their cards right they can sit inside the F18's WEZ all day as they try to line up a low aspect shot. Come to think of it, maybe that's why Russia invested so heavily in supermaneuverability...

Thanks for another really great video GS! I always love these more analytical videos, especially for the TacView debrief, but the fights themselves also look spectacular with the new clouds and the damage effects and sounds. The devs dit an awesome job with this update and I very much appreciate the hard work everyone is putting in, so I don't want my comments to be taken the wrong way. I am also very grateful that we finally get a bit better/more realistic missile physics and in no way want to diminish the progress that has been made. However, there are still some things that really stick out to me, enough to really break the immersion in my opinion, that I want to comment on. I just don't understand why the devs won't allow a realistic AIM-9X option for those that want to use it, or simply acknowledge that they nerfed it for gameplay reasons or have modeled it differently due to other limitations (just like how remote fusing in multiplayer isn't realistic, but also can't be implemented right now), now that they have actually dedicated development to improve it a bit, but still kept its Rmin well above what is possible in reality. Yes a 1000ft shot won't work every time, and there's a risk of shrapnel damage to the launching aircraft (especially if you are close to the normal angle off of the warhead when it fuses), but it should at least be possible. There is also a bug that I see with the missile speed: Step frame-by-frame at 8:35; The blue AIM-9X goes instantly in one frame from 604 TAS and Mach 0.95 to 347 TAS and Mach 0.55, without any sudden big jump in position, attitude or altitude and while still having the same TRT. It's probably just a bug with the recording or with TacView, but I wanted to point it out nonetheless. More concerning, just before the missile reaches the halfway point to target, while it's still accelerating and clearly should be at max fin deflection as it's not turning enough to hit, it starts easing off on the fin deflection for no good reason, especially since the missile is still well below its G-limit. (Yes I know even with simple 6-dof mathematical models, the coupled parameters in the loop means that the missile will ease off the turn if it can't get enough speed to reach the predicted impact point in time, but that's only valid when the missed distance is still within the fusing and lethal range of the warhead. Since remote fusing isn't a thing in DCS, the predicted range-on-fusing shouldn't afford any slack in turning.) The same thing happens at 8:45; The missile goes from 653 TAS and Mach 1.02 to 344 TAS and Mach 0.54, with no other changes. Still, since LongShot pulled some lead for it, it didn't have to turn very much, which can also be seen from the TRT and how many G's the missile is pulling. Everything looks good up to around 1/3'rd of the distance to target remains (at the frame where the missile goes from 510 TAS to 515 TAS), where the missile suddenly eases off its turn even more, to a TRT of only 10.8. At the point where it finally crosses the plane we are looking down, it was still only pulling 14 G's, even though it had a lot of airspeed left to pull more. Same thing at 9:05. The missile initially turns pretty well, although it still displays that bug where its speed instantly drops. However, once it gets close to the target, it again lets off on the turn (going from >20 G's and >40 TRT around the apex of its turn, to ~10 G's and a TRT of ~ 30 close to the target), even though it still has more than enough airspeed (supersonic). When looking at the final missile that hits GS, if it really is close to its Rmin for those parameters, it should be trying really hard to hit you. However, it seems like that AIM-9x is almost just cruising along, with only ~15 G's and a TRT between 33~26 for most of its flight. That really doesn't make sense for a missile that was min ranged, but it does fit with a control system that either has some bugs, or is deliberately under-controlling and not pushing the plant close to its saturation limits.
The only thing that is a little weird in this 2.7, it's those huuuge flames coming from piece that probably won't burn, or not that much. Except that, this update is just amazing.
Just getting started in DCS, learning my ships and seeing the sights. Have been agonizing between the Viper and Hornet as my first premium module. Seeing the new Sidewinder and imagining what it could do in concert with a helmet-mounted sighting system has me leaning heavily toward the Viper. I know it comes down to the pilot, but I don't want to leave myself the excuse of not having proper hardware.
It looked to me a couple of those first kills the missile exploded in the flare behind the target. Perhaps the explosion radius has been increased a bit.
I was thinking , this is a set up just to see how many ways GS can kill Longshot then came round three ... and four ..... love the last words spoken :D

However, once it gets close to the target, it again lets off on the turn (going from >20 G's and >40 TRT around the apex of its turn, to ~10 G's and a TRT of ~ 30 close to the target), even though it still has more than enough airspeed (supersonic).
When looking at the final missile that hits GS, if it really is close to its Rmin for those parameters, it should be trying really hard to hit you. However, it seems like that AIM-9x is almost just cruising along, with only ~15 G's and a TRT between 33~26 for most of its flight. That really doesn't make sense for a missile that was min ranged, but it does fit with a control system that either has some bugs, or is deliberately under-controlling and not pushing the plant close to its saturation limits.
The only thing that is a little weird in this 2.7, it's those huuuge flames coming from piece that probably won't burn, or not that much.
Except that, this update is just amazing.

Just getting started in DCS, learning my ships and seeing the sights. Have been agonizing between the Viper and Hornet as my first premium module. Seeing the new Sidewinder and imagining what it could do in concert with a helmet-mounted sighting system has me leaning heavily toward the Viper. I know it comes down to the pilot, but I don't want to leave myself the excuse of not having proper hardware.

It looked to me a couple of those first kills the missile exploded in the flare behind the target. Perhaps the explosion radius has been increased a bit.
