DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | Air to Air Waypoint & AWACS Tutorial! | Increase Your SA!

  • This is a long form tutorial on how to use the new Air to Air Waypoint system in conjunction with an AWACS or your wingmen in order to increase your Situational Awareness in the Air to Air battlespace.
    This will allow you to hunt down OR avoid threat aircraft in a more efficient and timely manner... No more hunting down Bogey Dopes with the heading tape on your HUD.
    In this video I also go over the meaning of BRA calls from AWACS as well as some of the variations of those calls.

    A very cool new feature in the F/A-18C that will really increase your SA in a mission by helping you quickly and efficiently find threat aircraft... NOW to remember to set an Air to Air waypoint when I am flying out on a mission haha!

      I notice you are running a ultra wide monitor, I’m running 33440x1440, when using the fa18 the hud text seem thicker then using 27inch monitor, do you find this too? I can lighten the hud which helps though.

      @@brettallen2129 I also have this problem on my 3440x1440 monitor. Check this workaround: forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3556057&postcount=65
      It works for me, but I have to fix this after every DCS update tho. Would be nice if they fixed this permanently for wider monitors already. :(

    Thank you Spudknocker for great video tutorials.
    I want to mention, that only picture is, directions from bullseye. Popups and update directions, are always BRAA, directions from self.
    And also Bogeydope, is ofcourse in BRAA, but only for the closest bandit.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @Spudknocker
      @Spudknocker  5 лет назад +2

      For sure dude, while there may have been a few mistakes in terms of which bandit/group was being called at what time by AWACS the idea was the video was getting across how you can use these tools to effectively build up your SA with the A2A WP, your own on board Radar, the AWACS calls etc... I think that the mishap of the AMRAAM hitting the mountain and thinking it was a manuever kill and then rebuilding the SA through my own radar in conjuction with AWACS etc was a good example of losing SA then getting it back

    • @CHECK6-963
      @CHECK6-963 5 лет назад +2

      That's not always the case, the number one answer in any real world fighter squadron is, "depends" . I'll post here what I did below.
      In real life a popup group will be given in both, BRAA first , Then Bull. The reason is it allows the closest aircraft to judge threat criteria and allows other aircraft to engage the aircraft using bullseye to support the closest fighter. So we might say "Thug61 popup group BRAA 345/24 Bullseye 211/19 12,000 Hostile" We can also give follow on groups to the trailing or azimuth split groups depending on threat criteria. Usually AWACS will target maneuvering groups inside "no new picture range" and monitor them as the other fights develop once the monitored group turns hot on a friendly group we shift target and sort to the appropriate fighter.

    Nice vid spud. However darkstar was not off on its bearing call of 290. You just decide it was incorrect...because you found another target....hehe. perfect example of the task saturation of aa combat. Also just incase you did know the aa waypoint does not need be a waypoint in your sequence. I just add a new waypoint after my last one and designate that one as the aa way point (of course it is co located with the mission bullseye.)

    • @Spudknocker
      @Spudknocker  5 лет назад +1

      It definitely does, while some of the calls were off cause maybe I was looking at the wrong radar contact, the point of the video was using the the A2A WP in conjunction with the AWACS in order to increase SA and regain SA once its lost or something becomes confused, the AMRAAM hitting the mountain and the subsequent mistake of thinking it was a maneuver kill was a good example of how you can lose SA but then use your tools to regain a picture of the battlespace

    That looks so impressive but honestly I’m not gonna bother. I’m pretty much done with DCS. Maybe when I have some time off work in March I might try again. I can’t get much to work at all from the mission editor. I can’t get JTACs to survive no matter how invisible or immortal I make them. I can’t get IRMAVs to lock onto anything. I can’t get laser guided bombs to even explode from what I can tell even though I’ve fused them. Often, I can’t get aircraft to stay on the radar screen. I just fly navigation exercises and do circuits or practice carrier landings. Hours and hours of setting up missions and trying changes for no return. I think I’ll just stick with Prepar3d.
