I have a large class A RV. We have motion sensor lights outside and also security cameras. I can see everything around us. I have a dog, two guns, a stun gun and pepper spray. One night we were parked in a store parking lot and some teenagers decided to pound on one of the sides. I turned on the outdoor lights, opened a window shade, pointed my shotgun at them and asked who wanted to be the first to go to hell. They got very scared, ran to their cars and left very quickly. We then drove to the next town and stayed at a campground. That was the only time we had any problems.

I think to be safe you should go to a registered & proper camping site or if you are in a natural spot outside then go & park with few other campers parked in the area .Remember there is safety in numbers.....

I was a 911 dispatcher for 5 years. There are a lot of very unstable people out there you guys. Please have protection like a firearm with you at all times & know how to use it correctly. I took many calls that in our rural area if some of these people had not had a firearm they would have been dead by the time my deputy reached their home. It is unfortunate but it is the world we live in. Please consider it if at all possible. So glad you are safe & hopefully take steps to be even safer in the event this occurs again.

My Wife and I almost had the same thing happen to us, a couple that were high on drugs with a young child were causing a racket with super loud music and swearing their heads off, so I went over to them to tell them to turn the music down and all hell broke loose. Police came and we ended up moving to another place away from those clowns. The police were really nice towards us and ended up arresting the other two. Felt really bad for the young child, those type of people should never have kids. But my wife and I still camp with the RV and it's all been good since. Be safe out there.

I have traveled all over the US by myself. My number one rule is don't be the only one in a park or a parking lot and always go with your gut. Sometimes rest areas are more safe. Again... same rule, never park there by yourself. If there are semi trucks and other vehicles you will be a lot safer. Even in an RV with 2 other girls, we pulled into a rest area and it was totally dark, and guess what? WE LEFT.

Always lock your doors! Take your seatbelt and put it through the area on the door that it can slide through and then pull it and buckle it. This way it secures the doors and they can’t be open- truckers do this all the time.

Don't be discouraged, if you had a vacation home and someone tried to break in, or did break in, you might be scared to ever sleep there again. Also makes me wonder about making sure in those types of environments not to use the levelling chocks, cause you would probably would have to abandon them. I guess always park the van so that you have a clear exit, I notice you often reverse into the park. Keep safe guys 🤠👱🏻‍♀

It is so sad but when younger generations are brought up with less self control, self discipline and respect.
Combined with allowing people in that does not have the same respect or values, you get the loss of liberty and freedom and safety people in your country once had.
Imagine people once camped in tents in safety. Today, even hard bodied structures and self propelled motor homes feel unsafe.

I am from the western USA, I camp all the time now that I am retired, but never without adequate means of self-protection. I have a 24/7 security system with me most of the time, his name is Zule. His growl is so scary it made a drunk guy pee himself one night, when he stumbled into our camp by mistake. Zule also has a bite and is very effective against anything from a bear to a drunk.
Unfortunately, in today's world there are predators out there that I deem too dangerous for Zule to take on alone. Therefore, I carry a double stack 9mm on me at all times, whether Zule is with me or not. I have an adequate armory, so each camping trip I assess the situation and take the variety of weapons that seems appropriate. Quite often my camping trips involve recreational shooting, especially when I know there are no other humans within ten miles and I am not disturbing anyone.

When I lived in my Jeep in SoCA last year, people knew it bec all of my windows were 100% covered up.
I left the front side windows uncovered and I put up a black curtain between the front and back seat, so it hung above my hips when I sat or slept. I put my 2 layers of 3 inch foam down in the passenger floorboard, so I perfectly reclined everso against the center seats, and with all my pillows it was a perfect place to sit and still be hidden, bec I was so low that people didn't realize I was inside..day or night. My blanket was black, so my legs were hidden. I was able to park in any Rich neighborhood that I wanted, so the nightly hunt for a place to park was over and I was never harassed again or constantly listen to every car that parked near by.
~Cooking and cleanup took 2hrs plus a Lots of space, so I embrace OMAD, 1 new restaurant everyday!

"Just kids are at home with there parents" Showing up in an isolated area as a group banging on your van means they're looking for trouble. Wrong attitude to assume safety when common sense says that you're not safe.

    • @TravelTalesVlogs
      @TravelTalesVlogs  9 месяцев назад

True that's why I didn't get out the van. I expect they would have took off but you never know...

You need to put lights on the outside of your van that have sensors that will go on automatically when someone comes around your. van just put them all around it. Also you can put an alarm system.

At the moment I am in the process of buying a mobile home and intend to do wild camping, but your experience has made me think twice. I am not young like you I am in my 60s, so an experience like that I can do well without anyway good luck to you. I will be looking out for more of your videos say hello to your beautiful dog from me.😊

Hey Pete, thank you for your comment ! Wishing you best of luck and don't let this deter you. As you will see from our other videos over two years of mostly wild camping with no problems. There are some apps such as Park4Night which you can download, they have reviews for different park ups and that definitely helps to choose spots. If you stick to those it should help avoid stuff like this and more importantly theft. Chris 👋

I don't have a RV but if i could afford one id definitely get one. That being said I love primitive camping. About 3 years ago i was camping and doing some night fishing. Around 1 am i had a rock go by my head and hit the water right in front of me. It was flat land so i know it didn't roll down a cliff.
At first i dismissed it as weird. About 20 minutes later another rock was thrown at me. After that i started getting everything packed up and tossed it into the back of my truck and got the hell outta there. The entire time i was driving the back roads to go home i had my 357 mag in my lap
As i was driving down this old dirt road when i seen something in my headlights that looked like a bigfoot seriously. I was afraid i was going to get ambushed by the thing so i held my gun out the window and started shooting 😂 funny now but was scary at the time. By the way i love your puppy. I had a jack Russell terrier his name was jake. I miss him so bad but i had to put him down because ha was suffering from cancer. RIP Jake i miss you boy 😔

    Hey C2H,
Well, what can I say? ... another VLOG where it doesn't seem appropriate to hit 'Like'
I can understand that this is unsettling, but I think I'm right in saying it's the first instance in two years? that this has happened to you?
Keep your chins up & a sense of perspective, because (In my view), this was probably youngsters (still Teenagers I expect), who were trying to spook you in a remote place. I also suspect that alcohol was involved.
You did the right thing by not confronting them though, my advice is not to get out of the van as that could lead to all sorts of scenarios.
Personally, we always felt safer near streetlights (where there is more likely to be people / CCTV - but of course, this takes the fun away from 'living in nature' & staying in remote areas. Maybe this area of France is one renowned for loutish behaviour? ... or a dislike of motorhome travellers in general?
Anyway, glad you found some peace eventually & caught up on your sleep.
It was brave of you to share your experience in this VLOG, as you said, to show the 'full picture' & not just the good bits.
As always, drive safe, stay safe & look out for each other & I shall look forward to the next one. Kev x

Hey Kev thanks for your comment and for watching. Definitely a different vid this week but worth sharing I think !
