For those of you concerned - I assure you I am well equiped to protect myself, and confident in my ability to do so. I did not share outright what means of protection I have at my disposal, but know your girl is prepared. This is not my first rodeo. Perhaps I'll make a video dedicated to my safety & defense protocols. Thank you for your love and for being on this journey with me. :) - Lyss

After reading some comments on this video I am so angry. I am in my mid 70’s and some of you blamed her for what happened. My generation was the 1 when mini skirts first became popular. I could not believe how some commented about her beautiful hair and her choice of clothing. Years ago when a woman or young girl was assaulted the Defense Attorney could use her attire or looks against her in the defense of the criminal who committed the crime. She has the right to her freedom to look & dress how she pleases, even if she wants to walk around in a bikini that doesn’t give any man the right to assault or behave in a way that makes her uncomfortable. If not now in the time of Me Too then when will Women have the same rights as a man. Stop Blaming The Victim! Put the blame where it belongs on the perpetrator.

Hey Lyss.!! Just came across your Vlog which reminded me of my journey through similar situations in the '70s. I was a single lonely male looking for reasons why I didn't seem to fit in. Brothers suicide, depression leading to my own attempted suicide, drugs, meditation and purpose confusion. I came out the other side and now live a peace filled life. Love your practical skills, courageous emotional intelligence, processing fears, loss, and addressing the fear of the dark side of men who consider single women as bait. I just wanted to encourage you that you're not alone and don't allow fear to become a companion to overwhelm you and cause you to miss all the wonders of life on earth. I look back on my days and see so much good came out of my journey. At a deeper level, my unspoken questions about my circumstances opened me up to another world of thinking and one day I knew I was not alone. I had spiritual experiences and dreams that pointed me past the negative into a relational presence that has been with me ever since. The unknown eternal God of peace and security appeared to me in a private moment and it's he who has given me the joy of being who I am in all circumstances. Despite the junk that is thrown at me, by misunderstanding others, I am now very secure whether in a crowd or alone in the environment. Your transparent honesty is a commendable quality. I tell you this from personal experience. The wonderful and supernatural God who lives out of time came into my time and saved me from my personal nightmares and gave me a new life on his amazing planet. I ask him for you, that your journey leads you into the same emotional waking of healing and daily joy of knowing you are eternally loved, despite the private fears of doing it alone. No matter where you're at now, the God who made the physical universe from the realm of the supernatural/spiritual world has your back covered and looks forward to meeting you in his son Jesus. I could not say that if I had never discovered his eternal love so I leave this for you to ponder and in one of your alone moments I ask him to reveal himself to you. He's always available, when you're ready. Swing happy in the next part of your journey and dance regularly in the sunset. God bless.

And if do just happen to get into a bad situation make sure you have a way to protect yourself with extreme force with anything you have at your disposal to inflict sever pain and damage that the predator retreats and you escape to live another day.

She's used to being with a guy and got the false impression that she can just continue on the journey with few problems. Bad idea. The reality is that anyone traveling single, even some men, are at risk. There are tons of mentally unstable people in the world, predators, and extremely violent humans out there. I hope she gets to a point at which she fully understands that she needs a form of protection beyond just a mild mannered dog which is really her companion. At minimum, she needs a stun gun, mace, and other non-lethal weaponry. At most, she needs some steel heat! This is a healing journey for her but she still needs to be extremely cautious and a bit more savvy.

And this clueless, incapable persona is often put on by men in a bad faith effort to excuse bad behavior.

What a horrible feeling being followed.. it reminded me of what occurred to me a year ago… I was at the beach by where I live reading a book in my car with the sun shining in door open… two guys in a big huge dark truck suddenly pulled next to me… I got so scared the way they were looking at me I closed door and drive off… they literally followed me for five minutes as I turned to try and lose them.. I finally pulled into a huge lot full of people and they gave up.. I hate that for sure so sorry for your experience but I feel u safe with your dog ..! Dogs help anlot

I admire your courage & self awareness. I’m like you…like everybody in that my heart has endured multiple compound fractures. I had a traumatic childhood, adult relationships so bad they’re like horrible Hollywood movies.
When bad things happen to me, I do two things: A) I take time to process what happened and make sure I’m painfully aware of all the contributing factors, my culpability, too. B) I cut my hair short. Needless to say I’ve never had long hair.
But regardless of how you process heartache, perspective is vital. I lost the last man I vowed I’d ever be involved with in early 2017. This one didn’t leave for another woman as the other did-this one died. Massive heart attack and my heart was broken. Finally, I felt broken.
I became a recluse after that. I didn’t get a van and travel, but I went alone to places I’d never been before & came home to a house that was that was quiet & stayed quiet. In this time, I severed a lot of plutonic relationships that had barely been on life support. I turned off my ringer for weeks on end & texted or emailed just enough to let family know I was alive.
I don’t exactly know what the intricacies of the past 5+ years have taught. But the main lesson learned is that I can depend on myself when I need myself most. At 64, I’m in my life’s proverbial third act. I don’t know what the future holds-if new friends might enter my life; perhaps a new man friend. But if they do, things will be different. It’s like what flight attendants always say as the plane is taxiing for take off, “In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will fall from the panels above you. Pull the cord straight to start the flow of oxygen then place it over your face & breathe normally. Please be sure you place your mask on first & is working appropriately before assisting others”
Take care of yourself before helping others. Words to live and fly by. Education continues even flying the friendly skies at 30k feet.
Stay safe & here’s to healing.

I'm 56 so my days of having men hassle me are long gone, but I even taught my son from the time he was young, that your intuition and your tummy will always tell you right from wrong and 'should I or shouldn't I'. What they look for, what would stop them, what makes them pick u....So I have done some of the things they suggested to make a man walk away. I travel for work so I stay in hotels, but I have used the aggressive loud voice to start a conversation in the elevator to deter. I have stopped and give the "and what" look to someone walking behind, I have stopped stared and gave the "I know u don't want to mess with this bitch look" at men. I'm not young anymore, no where as pretty as you, but please be safe. Loud, proud, not ugly just aware and ain't going to put up with nothing has done me well. This is about getting to the basic realities of gendered behaviour based on biology. Erm now what do we have here? Yes complete scientific evidence through case studies and history shows men do rape women and advice them of their assaulting powers in subtle communicative ways like cat calling and so on designed to condition and induce terror in the female and a rush of power in the male.
Watching this girl was like watching the gazelle about to be grabbed by a predator.
      This is SO serious always.
And the fallout for girls and women remains appalling.
And any person who is raped.

Intuition is absolutely the best weapon in your arsenal when living the nomad life alone, regardless of gender. Although it can be tricky at times to distinguish intuition from fear. If you examine your feelings closely enough, however, there is a difference. Intuition is a nagging unexplained feeling rather than some specific imagined fear. Your intuition will simply tell you, "this doesn't feel safe" whereas fears will invent scenarios, "OMG, what if someone attacks me?" Listen to the former, ignore the latter.

I have traveled all over the US by myself as a solo woman. My number one rule is don't be the only one in a park or a parking lot and always go with your gut. Sometimes rest areas are more safe. Again... same rule, never park there by yourself. If there are semi trucks and other vehicles you will be a lot safer. Even in an RV with 2 other girls, we pulled into a rest area and it was totally dark, with no other cars, and guess what? WE LEFT. The scariest place I've ever been is an empty campground in Alaska with ropes hanging from trees that looked like you could be hanged there. I also got out of there. I also cut some of the ropes down. Don't take a chance, be safe.

I hope you have every legal weapon....and are ready to use it/them as needed on any one who needs it. My opinion, please don't be offended, I know certain clothing is much more comfortable and acceptable in a larger area...but it draws attention to yourself in areas where men's moral compass are faulty and public opinion is less a good influence. You certainly have a right to wear whatever you want, but be aware of this potential (unintentional) message. Men are either predators or protectors...and I pray you meet the latter most often...if not always. Men without a God-harnessed inner nature are just awful and despised and have a future of eternal punishment waiting unless they repent.

I drove in and there was such a scuzzy bunch of people sizing me up in my new truck and camper that really spooked me so I left and drove back to Sedona for the night. Unresolved wounds... nicely stated... I sometimes feel like a mass of unresolved wounds and when I release, be it from the lyrics of a song, or a memory, or from that lonely feeling when you want to share something and there is noone there... that release is the only thing that's real in an otherwise false existence. To quote a character from the great JRR Tolkien "I feel like a pat of butter scraped over too much bread."

I am sorry that idiot made you feel that way. It’s like -really did he think you would be in some way inspired to turn around and talk or do more with that idiot! People seriously have issues some times. I’m glad you have a dog-they truly are our best friends!.

Hopefully this does not come off as creepy, but I am so impressed with your wisdom and maturity about life. I am truly touched by this video. Thank you for being vulnerable. Oh. And next time you might just go park at a truck stop? Glad you were safe.

Best video yet. I am just about to start my healing journey as a nomad. This video, in particular, validates what I am preparing to do.
Also watching you encounter threats and be able to move past being in “alarm” state was inspiring.

The greatest protection woman man or child is awareness of your surroundings and a plan of action thought out in advance..if you are not aware of the everyday dangers of living among fellow predatory animals you become the prey ..we are the most successful predatory animal because of our ability to assess the situation..

So good to know you’re capable of staying safe.
I highly recommend a siren type alarm for your keychain and pepper spray/bear spray in order to defend yourself.
Thanks for sharing your need to slow down and deal with sorrow in the moment, those times come to us all.
    Happy trails.

I feel for you. There is no time limit on grieving. I lost my husband when he was 47, I still have days when I feel like my heart is going to break, and I am 74 now. So you grieve as often as you need to. I just found your channel. You are a beautiful young lady, Stay safe. ❤

Another great video showing not everything can go according to plan. I have to say im so happy to hear you went with your innner gut instincts & listen to them thoroughly....its what they are there for. Your first line of security is to try & find a way out of things before it can happen, which you did so good on you. I used to travel alot & look after / protect high level VIPs in my past so its great to hear you did what you did. You have great travels & conquer what you need to feel at peace with yourself. Emotions are there also to help rid the pain of things you are going through so please dont fight them. Let them go t=let them pass & embrace them. All the best on your trips.
