I just picked up a bottle of the cask strength a couple weeks ago. It was barreled in 2010 and is 127 proof. It's delicious and definitely one of the better ryes I've had. I'll definitely be buying more of these as they hit the shelves each year.

It finally arrived in Washington state. My local liquor store saved me the last bottle. I’ll be opening it later this week. Oh and before I forget Chard I enjoyed your singing at the beginning of your older videos.
The higher ABV coupled with the inherent spice of a rye makes the heat more apparent. It also has a nice sweetness, once opened for a few days. This is a very good bottle. It is quite different than Pikesville - different is good. (Both are good.) I think it is worth the $ delta.
I bought a bottle of my local (Knoxville) store pick KC single barrel rye and loved it. It was on special for $33. I went back and bought two more at that price. After seeing this video I picked up the cask strength bottle. Annnnddd it is fantastic. Two great products. Great review you two!! Cheers
Revised this uncorking with the Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye of my own! Love it! Totally agree with Chad and Sara's review! Picked mine up for $46! Cheers!
I just picked up a store pick, and agree with you completely. The CS is more together and complex. It's a nice blend of 9 year old 119.6 not a 5 1/2 year old single cask. And how did they get it down to 115??
I like the cask strength paired with a Rocky Patel Cuban Blend. Both are spicy and robust, but they also have great flavor. They move beyond the strength to provide fantastic flavor.

From a taste perspective, I don't like Knob Creek 120 as the heat is just overbearing to me which is weird as I really like WT Rare Breed which is pretty close in proof.
It's a HOT one that's for sure!!!!! Let it sit and open up and chill for a few months and try it again. Take 2 or 3 OZ out of the bottle get it below the shoulders and lets hope it gets better and cools down. :) Mine has been open for a few weeks. The "Pick" states "Kentucky Straight" Rye and the new cask strength says Rye only. Why would that be? New/used oak, barrel entry proof? Is it really 9 years old because the vintage is 2009?
peter white Humm, good questions, and ones that I can't answer right now. I'll see if I can find anything out, but it's probably just a difference in labeling. Jim Beam isn't going to put out something that isn't Straight.
Just to update, according to Breaking Bourbon, Beam did confirm that it is indeed "Kentucky Straight Rye". Not that you were losing any sleep over it :)
If it is aged longer, won't the proof go down? That could also be a reason why the 9yo cask strength is lower than the single barrel. But the barrel entry proof is also a good reason why.

The one in my store is almost 130 proof. I'm gonna get one, apparently it's limited. I just bought a Rare Breed, and was a bit disappointing to find the cork was only half way on, might have effected the flavor, not sure. Oh well.
I bought this and I think it's okay. I can get Pikesville for 37.99 compared to this at 64.99. I will buy the Pikesville all day long I feel it's a better whiskey. This just didn't stand out for me. Also it says it was barreled in 2009. To me it doesn't taste a good 9 year old Rye. It doesn't say that it's straight rye whiskey either. I'm a little worried about the marketing. Maybe was sitting in stainless steel for a few years but it doesn't have the age that you would feel like it would be at nine years old. Remember that a vintage statement is not an age statement.

I'm a big fan of the Pikesville 110 as well, but this is quite a bit more intense, and the depth of flavor is really quite impressive.
This will be the new tongue twister for my kids to learn and teach their friends at school 😝
