    Very interesting notes (for myself to remember) from this video:
    Soaking shiitake log for 24 hours and banging it shocks it into fruiting as it mimicks a tree falling on it, which is a perfect opportunity to start releasing spores.
    Perennial crops are crops which unlike annual crops, grow every year without replanting, as long as they have access to nutrients and right habitat. Oyster mushrooms can be perennial and this video shows a method of achieving this.
    By adding used up oyster mushroom substrate into fresh material (like straw) it should produce again a few times using it.

    When your local council comes round to cut the grass back, I’ll pop out and collect it up, generally folk aren’t going to mind if you’re there raking up the grass clippings. I’ll source cardboard, tissue, along with all food scraps, it’s an annual process and the garden generally appreciates it.
    I’ll be developing an outer bed with shelter for mushrooms, so as you can imagine, it’s always a great resource to see our fellow gardeners grow 😊👍

    • @octane7047
      @octane7047 9 месяцев назад

      Mushrooms do grow in tropical rainforest. However, they are kept cool by many layers of trees and shrubs above and around them, which also help to make a moist habitat. So maybe you will have to mimic that natural habitat in your garden to grow mushrooms outdoor. In other words, turning your garden into a forest with multi layers of trees, shrubs and plants is probably the way.

    • @lejardinierjardine8518
      @lejardinierjardine8518 Год назад +3

      It doesn't have to take that long. This is the main Con of growing mushrooms on logs. It takes time for the mycelium to fully colonize hardwood.
      But the Pros are once you have sealed your dowels in the log you just put it somewhere in the shade and kind of forget about it. If there is a drought just check if the weight has subsantially decreased which would mean you need to soak it or water it. Another Pro is that you will get mushrooms for many years before the log gets fully digested.
      Last week I actually plugged Lion's Mane innoculated dowels in a couple of logs. If I'm lucky I might get mushrooms this fall but I will most likely have my first harvest in fall of 2024.
      As far as shiitakes are concerned, I think you can grow them in a couple of weeks in bags.
      Here is a FreshCap Mushrooms video if you want to know more :

    • @rickytorres9089
      @rickytorres9089 Год назад

      @@lejardinierjardine8518 I did not know any of that, if you know could you use smaller logs/large branches and shorten the dowels/plugs accordingly for kinda like a somewhat faster and still have some length of steady supply?

    • @lejardinierjardine8518
      @lejardinierjardine8518 Год назад +1

      @@rickytorres9089 Yes, somewhat. You can use smaller logs and, as you said, they will get colonized faster but also give you harvest for a shorter period of time.
      Now I said somewhat because I don't know what is the lowest size limit for logs to grow shiitake or other mushrooms you would usually use dowels for.
      What I do know is that other fungi are usually responsable for the decomposition of twigs and smaller branches.
