- Pac-Man is the arcade game that was made in 1982 originally in the arcades then Atari made Pac-Man for a home system known as the Atari and they made commercials for all the promotion. So I decided to pickup some nostalgia and put it in a compilation so enjoy the video.

“If it’s not the fastest moving fun you’ve ever had, we’ll eat our words.”
Better start eating
“And you can only play it on the Atari video gaming console”, NUH UH!1!1!
0:59 I like on how this commercial doesn't even bother to show game footage
Thztghx th u th
They barely even animated it!
@@Pirateyware this one is even more worse when it comes to animation ruclips.net/video/1FHkMqHx5xM/видео.html
@@Funnybirdproductions Isn't that the one we're talking about?
@@Pirateyware oh yeah it is but I forgot it was on here
These commercials are all time classics.
0:55 i just love this theme
We all do
Thats why we are here
It's the Atari jaguar startup
I like ho the first one uses sounds from the original cabinet.
One way of scamming the customers.
OMG SAME
Atari misrepresented their Atari Pac-Man! I still love Atari except that was low, then again Coleco did it with one of their commercials for the Coleco Tabletops!
The commercial at 0:59 was a rough draft colored animatic version of the one at 0:30.
It really does!!
0:15 FEELS LIKE A PAC-MAN FEVER!
(PAC-MAN FEAVER!)
ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
(ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!)
Many had the actual LP. Also on 8-track and cassette.
@@Rlotpir1972 oh nice!
WTF?????
"And naturally, its from Atari"
I loved how Atari seemed to act like they created Pac-Man and not Namco. True, they made the god awful home version on the 2600 but not the entire IP.
They finally got IT RIGHT after they did ms pacman they put extra ram into the cartridge just like activison did!!!!.. i wonder .what would the games look like with todays technogly but the console proably look close to the nes or Snses maybe.......
Atari actually had the opportunity first to license and distribute the arcade game in the US from Namco, but they passed on it. Midway ended up profiting from that mistake. Atari was playing catchup when they got the home rights and wanted to cash in on the hype as soon as possible.
I think its because during that time they had Pac-Man copyright
Atari would become Namco's north american distributor following midway - they brought Dig Dug, Pole Position, Pac-Mania, and Galaga '88 to the states
@@popeyejones9256The best the 2600 can do is close to early NES graphics, as seen in Donkey Kong VCS.
I just want to see the faces of those Namco executives when they saw these commercials of their iconic arcade hit. They must be laughing at all those graphics the Americans came up with compared with their master arcade tech.
This is so right, most american video computer system power were mediocre compared to the japanese technology,
@@mike-6139 Yeah, true. In my books, Arcade will always be the better version than home consoles simply because of the originality, sprites, and soundtrack.
The difference wasn't "American technology is inferior to the Japanese." The difference was that the Atari was a $200 home console in 1977, while Pac-Man was a $3,000 dedicated arcade cabinet in 1980. Could the developers of this port have done a better job remaining faithful to the original version? Most certainly. However, in terms of tech alone, no Japanese console of the time could've done much better either. Japanese and American video game and computer technology were practically equal in terms of capabilities at the time.
なんとも粗悪なパックマンで騙された当時の米国ゲーマーに同情するしかない
この年、82年末にはETが販売されてアタリショック(1983年ビデオゲームクラッシュ)が起こるのだが
前兆はこのパックマンだった
Graphics isn't everything its all about the fun thats what people keep missing the point of video games
2:27 Atari predicted Nikado Avocado overdoses on Cheech
Might I remind you people that this version of Pacman was one of three of the Atari games that caused the video game crash of 1983.
Not necesarly pac man, the other causes was that the market was flooded with consoles, bad games, and bad bussiness decitions.
@@nintega_64 Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark.
No joke, they made an Atari game for that movie.
The game was rushed. They should've waited another year to perfect the game better.
‘84.
I didn't know there was a third game that caused the crash.
1:10 they don't want to show the actual game now ;-)
It’s pretty much just a rough draft before the finalized commercial
And the ghost is mad lol @@nintega_64
I miss these peaceful times so much making me cry man
Calling them "power BLOCKS" was the smart and accurate move
Imagine this was shown at e3 1982 as the final build
What?
E3 Doesn't Exist In 1982
"Only Atari makes the Pac-Man home video game"
So do we just not talk about the NES port or what
Nes wasn't around back then atari and coleco was the top brands
Technically speaking, the NES version WAS made by Atari, funnily enough. It was developed and published by their former Tengen label in both unlicensed and licensed formats.
@@toonzach2870 The NES version was made by Namco. Tengen only published it in the USA
@@toonzach2870Even more technical, wasn't it only published by Tengen? I thought it was the exact same code as the 1984 Namco Famicom version minus the Tengen Logo.
2:20 Just why?
What A Suprise :]
Sound Glitch
*Why does watching Atari commercials make ME feel embarrassed? I didn't even make them!*
It’s simple... The 80's were a weird time
And it had you eating blocks..

The actor who played this game probaly wear a glasses now
Cant wait to buy one !
An Atari or a Pacman🧐⁉️
0:06 and that's why ugandan knuckles make this noise
Pac-Man Fever!
Port quality aside, it feels hilarious to see a whole family gathering around tv screen and getting super excited over Pac-Man. But I guess perception of entertainment was different back then.
Who would've thought that the Arcade Pac-Man would be popular, but the home console port would be one of the reasons Nintendo would have to save video games in America?
When Pac-Man reaches towards the camera, it looks like he is about to steal your soul
GREAT to see footage of all the ghosts being the same color
As a kid in Australia, there were no advertisements for Atari games on TV and rarely for the console. We simply didn't get ads, most likely because the tiny videogame market didn't justify the cost. We had to wait until we had actually bought the game to realise the suck.
The Pacman Fever Ad And The Ms. Pacman Ad Are My Favorites
i seen this on retrojunk at lakeshore middle school!
I think i first heard "Pac Man Fever" from what two Italian cartoonist brothers gave us back then...
I know Todd Fry has been cut considerable slack for his Pac Man port, citing restrictive deadlines, but it seems to me if you're porting a maze game with a single identifiable maze, the first thing you do is duplicate THAT maze. All other inaccuracies (and flickering) will then be attributable to the TIA graphics being used. Had Todd ever seen the PacMan maze ???
Kudos to the ads for making such a turd look good.
Blame Atari for being so confident that they packaged a beta as the final product. Wasn’t the developer’s fault
And actually it wasn’t really a turd…most home ports were lacking compared to the arcade versions
@@BlueBraviaryGirl True enough. TIA graphics (!) Always makes me shake my head at the coding trickery involved.
But, even for 1982, the 2600 version was pretty bad. The intellivision version released - by Atari(!) - the following year was outstanding.
There were also more than a few unlicensed clones that somehow skirted copyrght suits and looked amazing. (I'm kinda partial to K.C. Munchkin on the Odyssey2)
0:00 Love The Pitch
Wow, Atari. That's so cool.
Pac-man commercials are cool
One of those was a mock up rather than a real ad. The one with painted art.
The computer voice sounded like the original Pokedex voice
1:53If it’s not the fastest moving fun you’ve ever had we’ll eat our words:START EATING!!
“Power block”
but but but that's what they is!
The Aussie commercial has a sound bite of "Pacman Fever" by Buckner and Garcia.
Pac man sounds like King Dedede
1:29 It sound like N. Gin
Pac man: Hate to eat and run
At least atariage made a better Atari 2600 Pac-Man game
pac man: as soon as i eat that power block you guys are finished! me: power...block?
I believe "Power Pellet" is said, though with the sound effect in between the words, it might seem strange at first.
Nope, he said Power Block. All of the Pac-Dots are shaped like rectangles, both in the commercial and the game.
Can we still get the free t-shirt?
This port nearly killed an industry.
None of the people in the advert where actual Pac Man fans I guess
I just noticed how in some of the game footage the ghost Don't flicker as much as in the final game

Thinking about running down to JCPenney & picking one up as we text ~
"Drop Atari Pac-Man into your Atari Video Computer System, and you're playing the hottest game since Space Invaders!"
Or, you're playing the crappiest game that got all it's cartridges buried along with the likes of E.T.
It washt the games, or not alone. It was poor quality control and release practices and oversaturation of consoles

This Little bit before nes.
Oh
And SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy and Game Gear.
These are from 1981/82....the NES versions came out in 1988 (Tengen) & 1993 (Namco)

Technically, the enemies in "Pac Man" are _monsters,_ not _ghosts._
They become 'ghost monsters'.
The 1981 book Mastering Pac-Man by the late Ken Uston (a noted blackjack player from that era) confirmed that fact, as well as the second and third intermissions from the original arcade game
