WoW, talk about Fun and reliving the good ole 1980's..!! That compilation game-disc for Ps2 is Phenomenal. Currently, my Ps2 has been out of order, for Quite some time. No wonder I'm basically chronically depressed. : /

It's from 1984. I am aware that the crash started during 1983, but it was during 1984 when the general public really started seeing the mass destruction. During 1983 there were still normal video game commercials on TV and hundreds of new releases for eight different consoles. By 1984, the only consoles getting new releases were Atari 2600 and Colecovision and only about 20 releases in total for them (the biggest game being Pitfall 2, a really great game that had the misfortune of being released during the video game wasteland of 1984). Everything else was dead and this liquidation commercial was what was happening during 1984. Most of the general public was unaware there was a crash during 1983, but they definitely knew during 1984 when the mass destruction became VERY noticeable.
From what I read, during the crash. Atari was still bringing in $10 million per month, from 2600 game sales. So Atari was still selling games - but not enough to get them out of the red…not even close! I will attempt to find the article and post a link - or make a redaction if I misremembered.
I wasn't even alive when these commercials were on TV, but I think they are fun to watch. I play atari 2600 because there are really great games and homebrew games on it. They just don't make fun commercials like these anymore. 😢 I remember playing pole position 2 in a laundry mat as a really young kid. I love all the old Arcade games, but sadly, retro arcades aren't super common.

I was gifted an Atari 2600 in April of 1983, actually 5 weeks before my 13th birthday. An early birthday gift basically. My Dad caught a really good deal. $88. I eventually accumulated 28 game cartridges by the summer of 1984, and then I wound up selling it a few days after Thanksgiving of that year. I Very Much Regret doing that. I sold it so that I'd have enough money to purchase the Next Level Hot System at that time(The Commodore 64). Decisions Decisions as thee ole saying goes.

It's accurate too. I remember visiting my aunt and uncle's house and my whole extended family would play Atari. Home video games were a new thing back then and I think that is the reason. Of course, I was too young to realize that they were new! The games were designed to be played together, either simultaneously or players would take turns as each game didn't take very long to play out before your "turn" was over.
Atari 2600 was my childhood. I have about 4 or 5 of them, an Atari 7800 ProSystem, and I have roughly 93 Atari 2600 cartridges, all those 93 aren't copies of each other, it's literally 93 individual game cartridges. I do have copies of some games but I don't include them in my count of 93.

idk if this is random but i watched this vid and had the idea for a analog horror of a game company very similar to Atari, called passman, which is owned by passover systems, basically its like the walten files x Atari, the owner of the company cuts off his best freind to focus on his company and starts to drink too much, he gets very drunk one night and gets into a argument with his wife and kills her, he buries the body in his backyard and goes back to work the next day, the guilt overwhelms him, her ghost haunts his dreams, he sees her evreywhere, he goes mad, starts killing employees at night, putting their brain matter into the game cartriges. (it sucks, but im working on it)
