!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi, I get real pleasure from your videos and constantly wait for the next .... I really like how people do not just do some work, but CREATIVELY DO IT AS ARTISTS WHEN WRITE THEIR CANVAS !!!
Chips And Sparks Garage my uncle was a diesel mechanic and had the same setup on his f650, even used a cylinder from a car hauler semi trailer for his boom for lifting motors, wish I had that truck, it was filled with ole skool. Shadetree ideas
Works well Bob...I knew an old bloke in the 70's who did the same to pump up his inflatable raft...Before that he pumped one up by removing a sparkplug and screwing in an air fitting.!!..I guess you can guess what happened when the fuel reacted with the vinyl...
Well that could go boom. I had a friend that would take a cutting torch and light it and adjust the flame just right and then snuff it out with the acetylene and oxygen still on and then fill a balloon with that, then lay it on the ground and take a long stick and light the end of it and ... well you can imagine the boom that makes! To me .. the 8 foot stick wasn't long enough.
Youll be pretty happy with that york. You used to be able to buy a kit that had a new head gasket, rings and bearings for super cheap. I ran one up to 300psi and it never blinked an eye. They run 10cfm at cruising speed. Loving the videos bob!
Yea got one. as you know I work really slow. Do a little ... see how it looks and works and make improvements accordingly. Actually I'm gonna remove the compressor and go thru it since I see it has potential. I plan on running the air intake to the front of the radiator so it can suck some really cool air then install the filter I have for it.
Hi again Bob. Be cool to have regulator knobs and gauges right on the dash. One for adjusting rear air bags, one for the front air bag. Also could add a fitting on the tank and carry a short hose for airing up tires and whatever. Compressor really pumps good. No.2 permatex is Good stuff. P.S. add a small breather filter on the suction port.
Bob, you sir are one smart feller. I love the comfort that air ride can give, but I've always just seen the annoying electric air compressors on most vehicles except for semi trucks. You and Red Keep up the awesome work good sir!!!
I guess depending upon how you look at it, this unit either sucks or blows. But either way, it's perfect and a super creative use of an older York compressor. Gotta admit, I really look forward to Bob & Red's videos! Thank you, Sir.
Save all the paper boxes your gaskets come in. It's the same paper the gasket folks use for gaskets in many applications. I 'm sure you have had to make ur own gasket from time to time using the ballpein hammer method. Works better than old cereal box to make a thermostat gasket in a pinch. Best to you and yours.
Very clever and resourceful, using what you have and actually get a great result. Neato! Folks be wanting to put that dang pump on their Rat Rods got to be cheap and the yard yes? That is enough to raise the big Ford V8? Next time maybe. Take Care Bob, always look forward to your stuff. Good Effort, thank you for sharing. D
That was interesting Bob. I didn’t know you could use an AC Compressor. Makes sense and appears to work great 👍. Just be careful emptying the tank pointing at Red. You know how he is about keeping his hair just so. HaHa
That’s cool , one of the reasons I have played with my tank and air ride on mine is the pump is slooooooow and wish I had room for a bigger tank and a pump like yours .
I hear ya! One guy on RUclips with same compressor and 8 gallon tank revved it up real good and filled it in 5 seconds. It's was on tape too so real deal!
You are doing well on your Rat Rod,I can't wait till you get your coil over shocks /front?and how you fiquire where the head lights will mount.and what ever else,be safe.
Cool, 'n the hood looks great... If the hinges were placed wider, it would lift the hood higher and might clear the body easier. But - CRIPES ! it's a rat rod...
That was interesting Bob. I told you it was going to pump oil but I never had a need to stop it pumping oil. I hope that fix works out for you. Not sure about the York but at hwy speeds some of those compressors can pump out over 5 tons of cooling, that's more than your average house would need...
Yea .. I hear ya. Gonna build a cool home made filter dryer. It has it's own oil bath like an old air cool motor and some oil may get past the rings ... we'll see!
Good morning Bob. The head of your compressor looks like a face looking back at you. Ha-Ha. And Red's hair was blowing in the wind. That pump works really good. Is it only the york pumps that can work like that? Thanks for sharing Bob.😷👍👍
Ha haa. I would say any compressor that has an oil sump, but I see guys using all kinds for pumping air. The ones without an oil sump probably don't last long though!
Should be more than enough to raise it several times. The air bags are roughly a gallon size x6 (with trailer) and the tank is 7 gallons. Only gonna need about 30psi or less in the bags and the tank will have 100psi.
Good question! Still working on that! This ole compressor has an oil sump like and ole air cool engine but it does pump some of the oil out the discharge. I'm waiting on my gasket and seal kit to come in and I'm gonna go thru it to see if I can slow the oil spitting down some. Stay tuned!
Love that! 🐀 rodoligy! Thinkn, sifer'n (for the unedumocated thats ol time math calculations). Maken a list checkn it twice. And maken it happen with what ya got! This is a cool setup. I'm just wondering if you'd need an alarm in case you were on the highway and lost air pressure. It'd be tricky to drive with the frame on the ground. An alarm of some sort may give you time to pull off to the side of the road. You likely have that figured out already.
Filter the compressor air from under the air cleaner, try a stainless steel flex line from Home Jippo , water heater stuff. Dont use motor oil in the compressor. Any time you tap pipe threads always stop with 5 threads showing on the tap. Trailer air, quick connect from shop hose?
I was thinking just that on the filter side of things. Why not motor oil? The guys that convert them for a living say it's not picky .. use the same oil you run in your motor. Thanks for the tap tip. Yes the trailer air will be a quick connect.
@@RatRodBobBuilds Use non detergent compressor oil. A quick lesson on oil, Detergent in motor oil keeps the crud and dirt thats in the engine oil in suspension so the oil filter can pick it up, old engines, compressors, lawnmowers, and windmills that do not have filters need non detergent oil so the crud and dirt can settle out and make sludge at the bottom and not float around gitting into the bearings over and over. Slip a strong magnet in the sump and let it help grab the Fe. metal. Places like tractor Supply sells compressor oil. Heat will cook the check valves, with out the Freon to cool them, keep an eye on the run times. You may have felt the outlet tube on your shop compressor when running, larger compressors use finned tubing to help cool the air coming out of the pump. Be carful using plastic line out of the pump, it will melt and pop. Under hood temps start @180 and could get to 200 just driving this summer. No bare feet on the firewall. Add a water drain to the air tank. I hope this helps.
Great tutorial brother! I want to do this on a 70 402 bbc so I got to go looking for a early 70s video and find out the logistics. Thanks a million . Bob ,what was the name of the radiator place you use again ? I searched the old vids and cant find it. Thanks again

Here is the question of the day -- I know you like building and not keeping your builds... So my question is - What kinda price tag will you be putting on this Build ?? or is it already sold ??
Not sold ... my stuff is not for sale but it does have a "not for sale price" but only after I'm done with it ... built it and played with it. In other words ... money is king when you need money to do what you do! I probably build an average of a car per year and as you know ... that cost money. And ... I live for the build ... not so much for the finished product. I don't need a bunch of Rat Rods to drive. I may take offers for it after it's done but not before!
I’d really love to know in a pm what you want for the truck and mini bike setup I ain’t got a lot of money but I got a lot of trade + money 💰 for this working art.been a fan from day 1...

It's just a pressure switch off an old air compressor. One side goes to 12v and the other to the compressor. The switch has two poles on each side but you only need one for this.

That will work great o the ratrod. I converted one 30 years ago and it's still pumping . Builds up 100 psi no problem.
