Nice work. I made a similar unit over 10 years ago using an ac clutch from a 1991 bronco. I made it for my 3 yard dump truck. It held strong, never slipped, and never failed. I sold that truck last year and that clutch unit was still going well. That unit you made will work great and hold up to anything you throw at it. You are the only other person I've heard of doing this. Nice work!
That is pure genius!! It totally solves a problem I’ve been having on my own build…. It has never occurred to me to use the electric clutch on an a/c compressor. That alone got my subscription!
It took me a minute to figure out what you were doing. I thought you were using the AC compressor but what you wanted was the magnetic clutch assembly and the housing was convenient since you could install a different shaft to couple to the hydrolic pump. Nifty home made hydrolic pump.
This was cool just to see the tear down of and axial piston compressor. It's always fun to see the inside of things that you have only seen in animations.
I can do what you do but you do it much faster and I really enjoy watching it's nice to have a complete machine shop an excellent to see that your ideas are fully formed nicely done
This project has so many potential uses. Nice build, and your ability to build with minimal tools once again highlights both your problem-solving and fabrication skills.
Seen this reposted on RUclips and everyone was hating on you. I say this is a well made magnificent machine. You used basically scrap out of a recycling bin ready to be crushed and made a working hydraulic pump and arm that you can find parts for at any local scrap yard or you could buy replacement parts new and readily available because it's just an automotive ac compressor and basically a riding mower engine. It's honestly genuis.
You made a home made pto. For those that dont know what that means. It stands for powe take off. It is how hydraulic units work on things like tow trucks and other construction equipment. Very nice you are a great craftsman.
Very nice, I can think of a lot of uses that could be applied to, one being a lift gate for a pickup or maybe a hydraulic crane for loading and offloading steel or wood onto a trailer. Good work, be watching for your intended application.

This was an amazing project and an incredible example of field fabrication. I watch a lot of this type of video for tips and tricks. Being able to fabricate solutions is a critical skill, especially for my family living in a very rural area. There were so many "take away" lessons from your video. The fabrication of the adapter plates, using spray paint for the template is brilliant. Great job!
I picked up an alternator with a hydraulic pump attached to the back. I like the use of the clutch so you don't have the starter turning the pump while trying to start the engine.
Nicely done and entertaining video. It was not what I expected, but the repurposing of the clutch performs those functions needed for the track loader application.
Идея очень понравилась, но для полноценной надёжной работы нужно крепление на 4 точки, при таком крепеже, как сейчас, оторвёт от станины в любой момент. Тут ставлю лайк именно за идею, и подписался, есть что посмотреть.
this is a really cool setup but can i ask why the hydraulic pump needs a clutch vs just direct drive and allowing it to run open circut? i could see the need for a clutch if this pump was on a vehicle to avoid long run times when the pump isnt needed. but why here?
Put a heavy duty microswitch to the lever by using a "B" cam, so the microswitch become depressed when you pull the lever in either direction, thus the pump only works when needed.
Ok by 1:45 ( and I think I did ff to get here) this Very smart clever Editing of excellent cam and sound, has easily Gotten me to the conclusion of a . Very very. Well done vid
Daamm thats pretty cool its not unheard of for us to get 50-60 thousand hours out of some of our heavy equipment pumps, but thats still not a bad idea, it would drastically extend the life of some things tho..
That’s very resourceful! I’m just trying to grasp the reason for it though. Cause a hydraulic circuit will be able to drain back to the tank when it’s not being used while the pump is still going. The only real benefit I see of this setup would be if you were running a hydraulic motor from the pump, you’d be able to start and stop it electrically.
That is a very nice way to modify the OEM "mower" pulley. Apparently it is common for people to modify mowers for high speed by flipping over that pulley assembly, which then has to be hacked in some such fashion. So cool!

I was waiting for you to use the A/C compressor for a pump and the pump for a motor. I was thinking high volume oil flow. But what you did works too!
The entire video was impressive.
What was most impressive is he found a scrap yard AC compressor with a working clutch.
I'm surprised the aircon clutch holds torque that well! Nicely done. I like how you did that internal keyway.
Pretty sure it won't hold the torque!

Hardly $5,000 as you claim. You can buy a complete, capable, and powerful log splitter brand new for less than half of what you claim.
