    For travel the 35mm f1.8 is very convenient IMO. it is light and small. for landscape and inside cities most of the time quite good. For family and portrait shots it does a good job too. The only time I wished for a wider lens was when I was outside and wanted to have a bit more panoramic pictures. My next lens would be a 24mm.

    I love the photos you made in these little towns. I especially like your use of (relatively) modest, more affordable gear and focus on the image and place, rather than the latest, best gear thing. I also like your choice of colors. They remind me of my friends who shoot Portra in film cameras -- that soft, pastel or painterly look works so well for traditional American locations. I hope you have the time to keep this channel going. It's great, and I'd like to see you grow it! Cheers! ✌

    Gotta respect the effort you put into filming these videos.
    Carrying a tripod around alone sure isn't easy but aren't you afraid of someone snatching away your cam + tripod while you were filming yourself from a distance?

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  Год назад +9

      I appreciate your comment! As you can probably imagine, filming these videos is actually really difficult for many reasons. From setting up the FX3 on the tripod, carrying it around, making sure I still take good photos, to doing in a timely manner so I have time to make the full video. The fear of someone stealing it while I'm not looking is constantly in my mind and my eyes are always on it to make sure no one is touching it.
      There's definitely been instances where I went somewhere to film and changed my mind due to either a lot people or it being generally sketchy. Luckily in smaller towns there's less to worry about. There's a reason I tend not to film these videos in larger cities even though I would love to. In other cases (not this video), my wife is often with me and behind the camera. Sometimes you can catch her in the reflections of shots if you pay close attention haha!

      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! As for the titles, I always try to make sure my titles are relevant to the video. Hi Dylan, this was like watching a young "Jack Reacher " prequel ( high praise, indeed!) Walnut Grove looked just like the kind of place that' bad things' happen in. I love the direction that you are going in with your signature photography. You really captured the air of despair of places waiting to be forgotten . The fact that you have to wait around for a person to walk into the frame adds to the overall mood that you captured.
    I shoot with the A7C and agree that the Sony 35 f1.8 lens is a great match for it-I love that combo and if I had to pick only one lens for it that would be my choice.

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  Год назад

      I definitely caught the same feeling from the town! Wait for that person to walk through the frame definitely took a lot longer than it seems in the video. Not much going on that town haha.
      And I definitely agree! If i could only but one lens for the A7C I would definitely choose the 35mm 1.8. I would be more than content.

Your video comparing them was really helpful. I realistically don’t need the power of either of these cameras if I was honest with myself. I’ll do some some videos for RUclips and photos of cars sitting still mostly. If you have any recommendations for the best lenses for these type of photos and videos, I’d love to get your perspective. Thanks for your time, Sir!

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  Год назад

      I've never personally shot with the 40mm but since I have the other two lenses from compact prime lineup, I really enjoy them! Cam Mackey made a video recently shooting with the 40mm and he mentioned he really likes that small compression you get from 40mm vs 35mm!

    • @chryseass.5143
      @chryseass.5143 Год назад

      You would be better served and gain more experience by getting a second lens further away from your 35mm focal length like a 50 mm or a 20 or24 mm .40 mm is essentially the same as the 35mm in field of view depending on where you are standing. Dylan's lens choice is spot on for the A7C - my personal favorite lens is also the Sony 35 f1.8.

      It’s my most recent purchase! Haven’t used it quite yet to say for sure but it’s great so far. f2.5 is typically more than enough for what I typically shoot. Thought about purchasing of 35 1.8, but lots of reviews say that same parameters of Samyang looks a bit better with almost twice lower price... what do you think about it? Have you ever tested this lens? Does it really make sense to pay quite huge price for sony 35mm 1.8? Is it not overpriced?

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  Год назад +2

      The Samyang 35mm 1.8 is amazing for the price! The only downside is that Samyang lenses feel a little too plastic-y for me.. but then again I’ve only owned the 35mm 2.8 they released years ago. Personally I ended up picking up the Sony 35mm 1.8 for about $450 on eBay because I probably wouldn’t have paid full price for a new one.
      I think the Samyang is a great lens! Now when comparing the 35 1.4 GM to the OEM 35 1.8.. I think the 1.8 is a no brainer, especially for video work

How do you edit them to get this filmic look (I think I saw you using some bloom filter)?
