    Dude I did the same thing as you back in June .. traded my 21 outlander xt in for the exact bike you have lol.. the only thing I’d change on the grizzly is tires I would like some bear claw or bighornes other then that I’m good.. only thing I miss about the outlander is the vtwin sound.. the grizzly is more nimble lighter and so much better in the tight rough stuff witch is what are trails mostly consist of.. you made the right decision man for sure .. Yamaha is a Honda on steroids lol give us a update once you get some miles on it .. keep the vids coming take care and stay safe out there ..

      Yeah man, I am happy with my decision, loving it so far. I like the stock Zillas for where we ride, all about the terrain. You hit the nail on the head with the sound, I definitely miss that twin rumble, but I like the sound of the grizz as well. I think many of the ATV videos I watch just to zone out on the exhaust sounds. Thanks for watching and commenting bud.

    Years ago I had a Can-am outlander 800R. The power of it was fun and all, but the damn thing ran so hot I couldn't enjoy myself on it. They claimed this was normal lol. I sold it and bought a Grizzly 700.. Also, I have an 07 model still running the original belt, no joke!

    • @chasintrail
      @chasintrail  Год назад

      Oddly enough my 650 seemed cooler than my grizz. But yeah, even the plastic push pins on the grizzly are so much easier to remove and just higher quality in general.

    • @markalan4026
      @markalan4026 Год назад

      @@chasintrail That is interesting. The Can-ams have a reputation for running hot, but maybe the newer models are better.
      However, I will say, my Grizzlys fan would turn on more frequently before I richened up the fuel mixture, but it wasn't overheating by any means.
      Even before I tuned the Grizzly, it still wasn't getting nearly as hot as my old outlander 800. You could easily feel the heat of the engine on your leg, and that Is why I couldn't have peace of mind keeping that machine. I just felt since it was getting that hot under normal trail riding, how is it going to survive slow rides through the woods when I'm spinning the tires a lot, or plowing snow.
      Anyways, not sure how hot your Grizzly is getting, but I would bet something is wrong with it if it's feeling hot on your leg. I can tell you, they are known to be super reliable quads, right up there with Honda, and that's saying a lot.
      I have had two Grizzly 700s, and both bullet proof machines. The first couple model years had some stator cooling issues that proved to be common. But they fixed that issue with a oil cooling line that drips oil over the top of the stator, they still use this exact design to this day actually. Look on the left side cover of your Grizz, you'll see the metal oil line on the outside of the stator cover.

    • @chasintrail
      @chasintrail  Год назад

      @@markalan4026 It’s not an issue this time of year, only in the summer wearing shorts. 95+ degree temps aren’t uncommon here. I lined the left side plastic with fiberglass heat reflective tape which helped a lot. May be a difference as well with the 650 being lower displacement than your 800. A file tuner would help but I’m not willing to shell out that cash at the moment. I grew up on Yamahas and gave em hell, hard to break.

If you plan on getting in to any deepish mud, I would recommend relocating your gas tank (rollover vavle) vent line to the front of the ATV where the other vent lines are run. I have a 2022 650 Outlander. Your videos pretty much talked me into buying one. I love the power but I hear what your saying. I'm getting tired of doing maintenance all the time and they are noisy. I was originally going to buy a Grizzly because I'm a Yamaha guy. Post some videos of your new Grizzly. I might be doing the same thing in the near future. I just wish Yamaha would step up and put more power into their machines. I get that there a work horse but more power is also nice. Hope it works out for you and look forward to your updated vids.

    • @chasintrail
      @chasintrail  2 года назад

      The Outlander is definitely more powerful, and I knew about the maintenance going in, it just eventually got old, especially in 100 degree weather. I am looking forward to seeing how much more power I can get out of the grizz, but am in no rush. The grizz also feels more nimble and better balanced on jumps, but I don't feel I can go as deep as the outty. I have a good bit of footage, just haven't had time to get it out. Thanks for the comment, love hearing your experiences.

    • @livinglife69

      @@chasintrail to get more power you'd have to change the clutch on the Grizzly. Unfortunately that would void the belt warranty. A friend of mine has a Grizzly and wants to put a clutch in but won't because of the warranty. Grizzlies are powerful, just not in top end speed. I wouldnt worry about getting stuck. They thrive in low and mid range. I love being able to go 65+mph but don't do it that often. Grizzly top speed is just over 50+.

    • @chasintrail

      @@livinglife69 I have not topped it out yet but many I have seen do low 60s, but like you, I rarely hit those speeds. Belt warranty is cool and all I guess, but I'm not going to worry about it as belts are cheap enough to replace anyway. You can mod the clutch with a shim and they would never know. But yeah, I would go the way of a machined shim and spring, gotta get through the factory warranty before I worry with that.

    I know the 650 is more powerfull but does the switch make the Grizz feel weak? I dont want to loop out but a machine that can carry the front off the ground a foot or 2 when I punch it would feel just right. I akready hate the feeling when I grab a hanfull on my Husky 250 and the front end can come up quick. I dont like letting off but if the Grizz can just carry the front maybe I dont need a vtwin.

    • @chasintrail
      @chasintrail  Год назад +2

      No the Grizz doesn't feel weak by any means. I fact, it feels more powerful in some RPM ranges. I have never rode a 1000cc ATV, but I can tell you that none of the stock ATVs 850 and below will lift the tires just by slamming the throttle. Each is different and require practice to get the wheels up. The Grizz is much lighter than the twins and with minor clutch work can pull the wheels up with ease. None are going to pull up like your 250 except maybe a Raptor. Both the 700 and 650 take all I got to get the wheels off the ground in low stock. I rode a Grizz with a tuner and possibly clutch shim and it came up with very little effort. The grizz is much better balanced than the can-am. The 650 always liked to nose dive on any jump but the Grizz lands flat, on all 4s. I hope this helps, sometimes I get off on a tangent.

I have my down payment on a 23 SE (xtr) but back of my mind wonder if I want the vtwin power over grizzly reliability. My wife would be sometimes going 2up so woukd need the power to get us around at a fun liesurely pace but not too much so she can handle it solo. Anyays thx for info Take care.

    I'm so upset I have to sell my Grizzly. It's just too wide for the trails in my area. I think i'm gonna get the kodiak or try my first sport quad (raptor). I've bent 3 tie rods and hurt my wrist countless times in the 2 years I've had my grizzly. Might not be an issue in some areas, but in the PNW trails can be tight and I either have to go 2 mph or risk hitting something hard. I'm sad, but it's just to wide for my area. I'm thinking of trying my first sport. its 4 inches narrower than the grizz.

      Oh I ride a dirtbike during the summer. During the winters I like to ride a quad. You'd be surprised how a few inches makes things much easier to navigate on tight trails. I ride with several people on sport quads and Kodiak's. The grizzly XTR which is the one I have, It's even wider than the normal grizzly and certainly more than the Kodiak. Maybe you would have to ride here to understand. But in a lot of areas the trail is literally North more than 50 or 52 inches. Through use, the trails are often a half foot to 1 foot below The surrounding landscape cut in through time. There are always rocks and roots just outside of the path and it is extremely easy to catch one. I am a far better writer than most of the people I ride with. And I'll admit my speed is faster so easier to make mistakes. But people riding the more narrow bikes just don't seem to hit any of the stuff that I do. They always give me shit because they know I'm better and faster but I'm always the one almost breaking my wrist even when I'm following the slower guys. They squeeze by obstacles worth 2 to 3 inches to spare. And if I don't hit it absolutely perfect, my handlebars get ripped out of my hands 🤷🏽
      I don't really Hunter anything, so I'm actually thinking of getting the sport quad. I rarely actually have to use four-wheel-drive and the few times I have I could've easily turned around or chosen another path. I think I'm gonna go for the raptor which is even more narrow than the Kodiak. No anyways. Nothing anybody cares but that's my story

    • @chasintrail
      @chasintrail  Год назад

      @@fishtailfuture A Raptor may be right up your alley, they aren’t as wide as some other sport quads, I have never rode one personally. All Grizzlies are the same width, only difference is the Zillas on the xtr and SE. the winch is the only difference in the XTR and SE besides paint. For spirited riding though, I still prefer the dual disc brakes on the rear of the grizz over the sealed drum on the Kodiak. Luckily tie rods aren’t too bad expensive and some times can be fixed. I hope to find a group to ride with around here some day, just not very many places to ride close to me. I appreciate the comments, I enjoy hearing how and what other folks ride and I could probably talk about quads all day.
