You could always hook a hose to that tap and run it out of the shelves into a bucket on the floor beneath. That way if it does leak and you don't notice it right away it'll get it away from the books.

If you don't think you'll ever need to use that faucet, or "tap", you could ask your friend to turn off the water to your warehouse, so you know you'll never have a leak.

Water Tap (Hose Bibb): unless you have plans to use it, most are threaded, so you can cap it with a screw on cap. Use a little Teflon tape or Pipe Dope to seal the threads too. If you are going to use it, add a short hose ran behind the shelves to a more convenient spot for filling buckets or jugs.

Mel regarding the faucet/tap as you Aussies say, lol, go to Home D or a hardware store and you can buy a cap that screws on. Just buy some plumbers tape. I’m sure one of the guys could come over but I’m sure you could figure it out. Just take a pic and bring it to the store with you. Someone will help you with the right size.

Hi Mel! I'm an ebayer in the US and have followed you for about a year. SO JELLY that books do well in Australia .. I would love to niche in books!! Instead it's jewelry, plush & a little of everything else for me.
A tip for spiders - they don't like bleach or peppermint. In warm months I diffuse peppermint oil in my garage to keep them away. It may not be feasable to do in the warehouse as the books will absorb the peppermint odor, but you might try swabbing bleach all along the door frame and the back side of the door with a string mop every couple or three weeks.
You've done SO AMAZING and you should ABSOLUTELY be proud of yourself!! You are such an inspiration! Now grab hold of yer boot straps girlie 'cause I bet business is gonna accelerate in that new space!!

Mel: For the "Tap"... My recommendation, and I believe the safest to protect against potential water damage = I believe I saw that the tip of the spigot/tap was threaded (like a hose would screw onto it). If true, buy and install a dead end threaded cap, screw it on with cheap white plumbers tape - for a secure fit. My 2-cents. Best wishes and keep charging. You're an inspiration to us.

I watched the video and I want to make a few comments and ask a few questions. Do you have adequate lighting? Do you have heat and a/c? I think you should pick up some fans. I don't know the best type of fans for this kind of space, but certainly not those jumbo powerful ones that sound like an airplane starting up. I personally love those vertical fans, but I don't know how practical they'd be in this warehouse.
I've worked with pallets and boxes at one place and I can tell you from experience, don't load the boxes so high!!! You want them at working height. If you're not pulling books directly from the boxes, then you can move the entire box on to your trolley and then roll it to its final destination. You never want a box stacked over your head or were you can't see the contents without standing on your toes or worse. If you can look down into the contents, that's the right height! When I saw the boxes loaded into the higher shelves of the bookcases, didn't you hear me screaming NOOOOOO!? You only have one back and your work involves a lot of physical activity. You must protect your back at all costs.
When I had a new space for whatever business it was, I always drew up a design plan. I can't draw for s*it, but I can use a ruler and draw a somewhat straight line. You need the actual dimensions of your work space, the dimensions of the shelves you're using, any tables you have for computer, photography, mailing, etc., stations, plus how many tables you want for putting books on that you have picked or want to show us, etc. Flat surfaces for new hauls and such. If you do that and always allow for more items then you think you'll have, you will be fine, and free of surprises.
I don't like the small distance between the shelves against the wall and the shelves facing them. This is something that could have been discovered during the design phase. How are you going to grab books from the bottom shelf? Maybe even the one above it? You're going to kill your back. How are you going to get down there and see what's going on? I think you need to have more space between those two and any others.
To deter spiders, you might keep some citrus scents, peppermint oils, eucalyptus, and the mighty vinegar, around the area, in abundance.
These are just some suggestions for you and feel free to take the ones that make sense to you. I'd rather you get a pair of roller skates to go from one end to the next, then have your shelves so close together. My first look at the warehouse when I saw how the shelves were placed, made me feel like the space was small. That's because of the closeness of the bookcases. This is your chance to spread out and make your fairly large space feel like a fairly large space. So, forget the roller skates comment and buy a library stool on castors. Maybe get a couple of them. If you do get them, get the ones where the castors are not exposed which can be a tripping hazard. The ones I am thinking of have the castors contained underneath Other than that, I think you will like them for working on low shelves and a way to scoot around. In the states, they go for around $70 on Amazon.
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you, but it can't hurt....get some good insurance for your inventory. Congratulations, Mel. You did it!! Now make it a safe, pest free space, and use the space to its greatest advantage. Function, function, function. BTW, I just looked up space between library shelves and it said 42 inches minimum. I'd be curious to know what it currently is in the warehouse.

Mel it looks like that faucet has threads on it. Take a picture of it and measure the diameter of the threads across the opening. Take all that info over to the plumbing store and ask them for a cap for it and some teflon tape to put on the threads. It might take a couple pieces but I bet you can cap it and not have to worry about it with a bucket.

i hope you never have to move again either, ive watched you go from your house to another house, to storage units, to the shed then to a warehouse! i'm exhausted just watching all of them! haha!. It really really looks great Mel, you're amazing! xx

Bucket in a dish pan for any overflow if an accident happens. Make sure you can hear a drip, to call your attention to a problem. Also, buy shelves on wheels for easy movement.

Get yourself multiple high quality step-stools (Costco has great ones, not sure if they carry them by you?) but get multiples so you can leave them around your warehouse so you’re not dragging one all over the place., that would get old quickly and become a time suck. Your space looks fantastic! So proud of you 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

You are just adorable and such an inspiration. I used to own a snack vending business. We started in my spare bedroom, moved to a back yard shed, then to a rental warehouse much like yours and eventually built our own warehouse exactly like we wanted it. I know exactly what you are feeling!! The pride of watching the results of your hard work as you grow and grow. You are amazing and nobody deserves it more than you do.

The shelf with the water spicket I would put the books that are on that shelf in plastic tubs, just in case you don’t see that your little bucket overfilled and spilled over. Just protect the books on that shelf.
