  • I'm in a reselling dilemma... Technsports has told me I need to spend my time fixing my eBay business and sorting the huge piles of unlisted inventory I have in my warehouse before doing anything else. But, I'm on a road trip and we're stopping to do some thrifting along the way with some other resellers. I know I shouldn't buy any more inventory as I have enough, but how do you walk past items that you know will sell for profits? It's an internal struggle for me!

I fly to melbourne (from Tas) using frequent flyer points, hire a car for a day, hit up about 20 opshops (buying clothes, mostly salvos $2 tickets) buy suitcases as we go, pay excess baggage to fly home ( saves thousands compared to taking our car on the boat). Keeps me busy for ages then i do it all again. Love the process 😊

I have a different situation because my buys come primarily from yard sales & flea markets & I live someplace with a nasty winter season. Because there are months of the year when it's far more difficult for me to source, my rule of thumb is basically that as long as i have somewhere to store purchased items, I'll pick up good buys, even if I currently have a lot to list. Because I know that from October through April, I'll buy very little, so I need to stockpile now.

The problem with the bread and butter is it accumulates and gives you the issues you have with having to up the storage requirements. The longer you do a category the quicker and easier it is to pick out the high margin items, Its that experience that gives you the edge compared to sellers who have to scan everything. I think it is the only way to get ahead as a one person operation in a popular category

We have the so-called composting kind (although they seem to be phasing out on the main roads) and we have the water conserving ones too, especially in areas where water is scarce and plumbing is newer. Next time one of us will have to make sure you get the complete tour!

There is still heaps of books in US that bring great profits and I have friends who sell hundreds of thousands a year on eBay selling used books. It’s just researching the sold comps and looking at the higher priced books that are selling and learning what sells in your areas.

In the Car your friend nailed it. He said the issue is not buying its that you need to process. In other words, buy high roi books and bundles. never stop BUT then list those immeditaly when you get back to the office. even ahead of other bundles, you have ready for photos. this way the dead pile can not grow and over time will reduce. In my dead pile, i process high-value bundles over lower-end stuff until its cleared again. but all new lots have to be listed within 48 hours (or the draft is completed and ready to schedule). I hope that helps. Discipline is very hard. We a like to buy ahead of listing :-)

When targeted high margin items it gives you more room to move on the buy in price $1 compared to $8 is not a deal breaker if you looking at a $50 resale. So it can actually help when sourcing even in the expensive stores, it can be quite quick and efficient as you short list fewer items to check. Bigger buzz when you find something too

America does have similar toilets at some of the more remote state and federal parks, boat launches and places that support limited use. Bigger parks and facilities are better equipped, but this style is common where they don’t want to extend power or water piping just to have a basic pit stop Dunnie. It may be where the phrase “pit” stop comes from, since it isn’t much more then a shed, on a foundation with a covered hole.

I can relate. I'm trying not to buy & it's 80% working but went away for two nights & had a thrifting day. It was country though so great prices that fit my metrics too. 😂 Keep sharing your enjoyment of life Mel. xx

In the US there has been a big increase in self check-out stations, including some of the larger thrift store chains. It is a bit weird seeing them in thrift stores now.

Well, that was certainly fun! John was a delight! And his wife looks adorable! I'm assuming that was his wife I think you said it was. Looks like you guys had a nice fun time! And yes I think Thom is correct in saying if you see an item that you can profit from you should pick it up if you're able to. You've been working your business. You've been taking the photos and listing the items you've been knocking back the monster so I don't see why you couldn't pick up things that you see that will make you money on the road like that. As long as you don't just sit on them like you were doing before. I think you're doing a bang-up job little girl! And Thom seems to as well he wouldn't say what he did if he didn't. ❤

Mel’s on to bigger and better things that’s for sure. She’s been hanging with some reselling RUclips greats! That’s the power of vision! We did have a blast and actually, this trip made for a good practice run for future #thriftcrawl events. Might do one in every state once a year who know?!

Mel’s not hard to host 😂 it’s not like she doesn’t talk and I’m initiating constantly. Thom’s not as quiet as he comes across on RUclips. Maybe it’s because he’s focussed at work whenever Mel interrupts him 😆
