    Highly recommend a commercial ionizer. Run it for 12 hours at night when you’re not there. When you arrive the next day open the door and air it out really good before closing the door. For really smelly books you might need to run it several nights. It will make everything smell crisp and clean. ❤

    Bulk Buys: I know this particular buy is done and you have really caught up these last few months on your organization, but I have a suggestion for you to consider moving forward. Have you ever considered getting some 2 or 3 level commercial metal rolling carts or half height rolling metro racks with heavy duty casters? I use about a dozen of the old Audio Video school carts, of the type that held movie and slide projectors. I got mine cheap at a government auction. I can put 2 boxes (about the size of copy paper boxes) on each of the lower 2 shelves and 2 or 4 stacked on top. I roll the empty carts out the door to my truck, then roll them in loaded. They can be parked by the door, or temporarily rolled in front of a fixed shelf and moved aside if I need access to the fixed shelves. I see you stacking boxes directly on the floor in many of your videos, then bending to pick up boxes because they are in the way. Putting the incoming books on narrow sturdy carts would make them a lot easier to handle, especially while still boxed.

    When I first saw your big container haul video I didnt realise just how many books you took back to the warehouse. OMG MEL. I WAS SO SHOCKED! Nice to hear NO BUGS. As usual, you just knuckled down and sorted box after box straight away. Great idea to take the older books off the shelves and put the haul in their place. This should allow the smell to clear until you manage to list them. Please dont over do it. Take meal and drink breaks and look after yourself. Well done with the 10x challenge. Love and hugs fron sunny Spain. xxxx

    if you have a very valuable book that has a musty smell- how do you treat that odor-can you put outside in the sun? my mother had vinegar everywhere in our house in the 1970's- no one ever knew we had dogs lol

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  3 месяца назад +1

      Vinegar is great and I do like to keep hidden bowls of that around the warehouse behind shelves and in corners. It’s great for reducing odours. I don’t notice it as much in this warehouse but in my last eBay shed it was smaller and I needed more vinegar bowls.
      Occasionally if I notice a strong odour on a book lot i will just make a note in the description
      “Aged book odour noted” and then make it acceptable to be safe. It’s not that I often I actually notice smelly books. I don’t really pick them up like that.

My gut told me to look it up first. I could only find 4 for sale anywhere online, all 4 were in worse condition than mine. Apparently this book was so rare that even in its condition was valued at over $400. From what I could gather the value was because of the content of the story for the time period it was written combined with the author.

    I hope when you say "discard" you mean "donate". For the books where the pages are coming out, run Elmer's glue along the inside of the spine, stick the pages back in, and put a weight on it so it will dry flat. Literally takes less than 10 seconds, and saves a book!

      Yes I always try to donate or re-home any books that are unsuitable for my own use. I’m thankful to have saved thousands of books from this haul to re-home. It’s a nice feeling when you can find new homes for books. It’s the best part of reselling.
