As someone with an incredible nose, thanks for not getting moldy or smoker books, it’s a real turn off and wouldn’t even bring them in the house.

Hey Mel it’s Steve , great vid , I cleaned up at that auction , brought the poker collection for $350 and it had $3000 worth of kem playing cards in it & heaps of other stuff . Can’t wait to run into you at another auction. Say gidday to Tom for me .

I also buy and sell books. Not at the volume you do, but I have bought several large lots of books. My husband always says that I should buy and sell something light and small, like thimbles. It has become a joke between us.
I sell books too, and that is my only real problem with them, the weight!

“You can’t bid against me”. - famous last words. Early on my wife and I would attend crowded farm style auctions and she’d ask me to bid on something she wanted. Then we’d separate to preview all the lots. Later when her lot was coming up, the crowd got large circling around the auctioneer. I bid, then got bid up from someone else. I bid again, and again. Then the auctioneer stopped the auction to point out that the other bidder was my wife and did we want to keep bidding? She was so afraid of losing it, didn’t see me and thought I was missing it. So remember a few key tips for live auctions: 1. There are know friends at an auction. 2. Know your bid limits, so you don’t get carried away. 3. When you make a plan with someone, follow through. Lastly, have fun. LOL.

Hi Mel. If I could offer something about attending auctions..... Auctions are a lot like poker games. There is bluffing, body tells and downright lying by the participants. Watching your video told me two things. One, the fellow next to you was trying to be assertive (and maybe trying to be intimidating) by bidding strongly and basically saying he would pay anything - so stop bidding against me...... You, on the other hand, were swaying back and forth during your bidding. You were basically telling the entire room you were nervous (even though you waited until the last second to bid). It night be a good idea to get a book on how to act at auctions, watch some videos or get a book on how to bluff at poker. I always enjoy your videos. Good luck!

In the U.S. you run into the mouse poo I don't know if you do over there or not. Dispose gloves come in very handy when doing auction pickups at very old houses.

Good - i thought that was a bad deal... only thing i saw that was worth something was the chandleeers and the land the building is on. That TV is old style projector, I scrapped a few as they dont sell .... so no.... rubbish but good content for YT

I don’t buy large hauls, I like to cherry-pick as much as possible as far as books, omg mold was horrendous, people need to wear a mask.

That creepy background music approaching the derelict haunted house led me to quickly switch on all the lights and lock all the windows & doors as it was close to midnight when watching LOL👻 Interesting body language when bidding Mel, legs swaying from side to side, you made that other guy pay up for those books LOL. Thom was only slightly rocking back and forth, he's more seasoned to the bidding game Lol. Great video, loved it !!

Heading to the counter found a trolley ready to be put out that included the 6 medical medium books for $2 each. Haven't even looked at the condition much yet, just grabbed, hopped in the car & listened to this on the way home. Now I need coffee too. Today's 35 degrees in Perth sucks! xx

Crazy house. You did right to let those books go, Mel. For $200, I’m not sure there were 200 good books in there. I’ve had plenty of century-old books that didn’t have any value, and a lot of those looked like they were from the 60s. I would’ve been in for $50 at the most. Your relief at not winning is certainly warranted.

Mostly, all the estate auctions here are online instead of in person now. Some have previews, and some don't. There are always a lot of bookcases full of nice condition books. I don't do books so I don't look at them. They take the old ones out and auction off separately. I love antique and old. There have been times when I had things outside, I hose them off before I bring them inside to wash. There's a lot of time an elderly person that was in there 90's, and then they've been in a nursing home. They couldn't take care of the house, so the dirt was just terrible. The items themselves were stunning.
