My mother in law told me she had a problem with her dryer not drying. The clog was completely cutting off the air flow. When I checked it for functionality, the element was glowing red hot. More dangerous than you'd think.

If there are no 90's in the vent, I would bet there may be a screw or nail protruding into the airway that is accumulating lint.

Good job on what you cleaned however there is one more step and it can be a big fire waiting too happen. You need to clean out the blower, my old Maytag does not accumulate much in the blower but a few Kenmore / Whirlpool I checked were plugged almost solid with enough lint to fill a kitchen green bin. Take out the door screws on both sides then pull the front cover off, this should let you see the blower. The blower housing comes apart via clips or screws once the cover is removed vacuum out the blower then assemble.

We bought my in-law’s house after they passed away. Filled with their stuff. I didn’t realize until the dryer died that there as no dryer vent! It was blowing hot, moist air and lint behind it. It sits in our garage, against an exterior wall. We cut the hole for the dryer vent directly behind the vent port, so there is only a few inches between the dryer and the great outdoors! Works great. We can remove the vent cover on the outside and vacuum and bits of lint.we can visually inspect and grab anything that doesn’t belong.

We have an LG front load dryer. Even though we clean the lint trap every load, a little bit falls off the screen each time it's removed causing lint to built up in the bottom of the screen slot. Eventually the screen no longer fully seats and now we've got unscreened exhaust headed down the vent pipe. Dopey design, LG!

Not drying…. Could be it needs a new element ie what makes the heat. Super cheap about $15 and minutes to install. That wasn’t enough stuff to be a complete clog. What is the other one for? Also it’s almost falling off the wall. Now that he has lint everywhere in the air. I don’t care for workers like this who act like it’s this huge issue and want to charge the customer like it is. He didn’t try the dryer prior to doing the blower.. I don’t think, will have to go back and look.
But he still didn’t check if it’s drying hot enough to dry a load of clothes nor what the other vent was.

Should consider making a cone-shaped thing out of foam rubber to seal around the blower for this. Save a bit of hassle with all that lint-dust blow-back getting everywhere in the house. Alternately, it's possible to get an extra-long shop vac hose to get a tube like that cleaned with suction from outside. (May have to order online, but those do exist.) That way you don't have to clean up afterwards or have stuff blow right into your eyes.

  • @scurfie2343

I have a 16-foot vent running through a crawl space. The warm moist air from the dryer hits the cold pipe and the lint will stick. Over time you get a clog. I bought an extension vent brush and pushed the lint from the dryer out to the outside. It's a job that needs to be done every other year.
