I recently bought an Emberton by Marshall and I listen to a variety of music. Initially, I was skeptical about its small size. But when playing Blues or African House Music, this little guy punches well above its weight and delivers a very good quality sound. I like this little speaker so much, I went out and bought the larger and much more powerful Standmore. Way to go Marshall.
I tested the emberton in a tech store in my city. I was blown away by its build quality and sound. I could not believe that a speaker as tiny as this can deliver this quality of sound. It’s just crazy. And no I’m not a fanboy, I’m using a SRS XB 40 as my daily driver.
Thank you for this video! I recently purchased the Emberton and I’m blown away. I was hesitant because of the price but I knew what I wanted and that was quality. Out of all the speakers I felt this one had the most warm and vibrant sound
but the bass quality is horrible. And the mids are overwhelming. I just got it today and i am dissapointed...i am returning it tomorrow and getting the flip 5 which has more kick and a more balanced sound
Is it just my ears or does the JBL sound a little tinnier at higher volumes where the Emberton keeps its warmth? Sorry, nearly forgot: I think your reviews are genuine and down to earth. In my book that’s a big compliment 😊
JBL Flip 5 and Marshall Emberton both sound really good in real life! But what people need to know is that the Emberton isn’t made for big party’s, but more for small gatherings. You know the cafe vs the club kind of thing. Or poolparty v.s. picknick. Don’t get me wrong the Emberton is still really loud, and it can handle lot of different music styles, but in comparison I found the JBL Flip 5 more direct hitting, more punchy maybe it creates this party vibe, where the Emberton was more smoothly and gave me this festival feeling. I personally like the Marshall Emberton more. What do you think?
@@atlasmoon5497 Emberton is actually quite loud, and although the jbl flip 5 might be more of a party speaker I have to say that the Emberton can handle a lot of music perfectly. Most people tend to buy JBL because of it’s name and hype, but believe me that Marshall had a better soundstage and quality overall.
Like, i have a jbl xtreme which i would consider ideal house party size (given you want to go up to dance volume) although i don't really use it for that. I got the emberton for my dad because he wants it more for some nice listening and background level music at gatherings, also given his music taste, i think he'd appreciate the embertons particular qualities
the flip 5 is all time favorite already either indoor or out door. Music player apps will take care the sound quality and actual listening is more important. jbl overall is awesome portable BT.
I got the emberton last week and was blown away by the sound. It is a bit more expensive, but I plan to use it for many years, so it kinda evens it out
In an ocean of reviewers who yell, flail their hands, play oonst-oonst music, record poor sound quality, and yell and flail some more... YOU, DANNY are the level headed grown up we need. You talk and move without hype, your side-by-side sound comparisons are spliced together in perfect seamless lengths, and your cat seals the deal. Thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! The test was really decisive in making my choice. I chose Marshall and it was a really good buy. Later I got to compare it with a JBL Flip 5 and actually choosing between the 2 is really difficult. Personally, thanks also to your video, I think I made the right choice, Emberton fits my musical tastes perfectly. Congratulations on the test you took.
Great review! I recently picked up an Emberton to compare to my Flip 5, and I arrived at the same conclusions regarding the significantly better mids on the Emberton. It was most obvious when listening to the Frozen II soundtrack, which has vocals backed by thick orchestrations. The Flip 5 sounds slightly punchier for sparse arrangements like Khruangbin’s tracks. I consider the Emberton an upgrade given the omnidirectional soundstage and convenient “previous track” control.
I like the emberton because it looks like a speaker. I also like it more with instrumental music. The jbl sounds a bit veiled but has that sound that is good for edm and urban music.
I just bought the Marshall Emberton and i always had JBL's like Flip 4, then Charge 4 (we also have 2 JBL's extreme2).. But JBL is really bad with battery. They all died within 2 years which is a big issue. I have a Marshall kilburn also and it sounds terrific (but too big to take with you on the road), so now we wanted to try this speakerbox Marshall. I love it! So small , yet so much volume and it sounds very clear. JBL does sound different, but i like the quality sound more of the Marshall. I think if you want more Bass choose JBL, or....well its not really clear, Emberton has a lot too. I as a JBL owner, prefer this one better and yes, call me experienced LOL
Interesting...I've had the jbl flip2 since it 1st came out and just died on me. It lasted so long for me, but you are right about battery life as it would die quickly especially having it for so long. Now I'm torn between upgrading to flip 5 or this emberton
@@Elboogie777 Hi there. Yes you are right, i could have had a "bad apple" in the JBL speakers.. But i had 2 actually, right after each other. The flip 4 and the charge 4. I dont know what you're looking for (with bass or sound levels), but friends of ours were also really impressed with this little marshall devil. I'm still impressed myself. Its your choice :)
Thank you for comparison! I think there is easiest way to make a choice - if you listen to party, dance, lo-fi music - it is Flip, but if you listen to rock, jazz, blues - it is Emberton.

For the difference in the mids between both, I notice that Emberton is more flat/better balanced and EQ-ued than JBL, JBL has boosted bass and highs which leaves the mids behind. Sometimes for clarity in audio you need to cut or pull-back one-two elements in order to highlight other elements instead of boosting directly.

pretty much every BT speaker is made in china. They have the entire infrastructure there for it. It's in the same hold as cellphone technology. I can definitely feel you on this though.
Don't like metal on JBL flip 5, too much bass, no mids. Creates too much pressure when listeting to metal songs. But it works great for pop and party music, and very loud. Unfortunately I'm sending it back - tested Emberton at the store, its soooo much better for rock music.
Same experience with the flip 5 which i received yesterday. Dance, soft rock etc the sound is really great. But with more heavy music like Tool i was not convinced. So i will try the Marshall.
It's a completely different BT speaker experience that you should definitely check out if you're mostly familiar w JBL. Go to a store that has them set up to sound test, (Best Buy for example) and you'll see what I mean!
Its loud, clear, and 3D sounding but it is definitely not a bass monster. If bass is your thing, i'd recommend maybe the ralis here: www.urbanears.com/us/en/speakers/ I compared it to the other Zound speakers here: ruclips.net/video/-deneR4S8fI/видео.html You'll be able to hear the difference.
Can you do another review of the Marshall vs the equivalent in Ultimate Ears? Also, which one would you consider better for listening rock, punk, ska, reggae?
navin advani nope, wonderboom is more portable, boom 3 is more like a jar design which i dont like. Maybe its slightly louder but i like the design and the sound of the wonderboom. Also stereo mode is killer.
I wasn’t sure which one to choose to give to my bf, but after the video I think the Marshall is so much more worthy. Hope he likes it, thanks for the review!
Unlike most, you think JBL is better. Can you tell us why? I am sure a lot of us want to save those extra bucks. Also, can you tell us about the battery back up? Someone here mentioned it is not as good as emberton but is it worth spending twice the money on.
@@jubeegoswami4819 I always wanted to buy a marshall for the looks. I had zero idea about the sound. But when I bought one and played my fav songs, I was highly disappointed. But only the classics sound good and everything else is bad. so I had to return it and then upgraded to charge 5.
Bass is quite important that's true. Contemporary music depends so much on it as well. Can you give me an idea of what kind of music did not quite come through well in the emberton? Also, since you must have been using the jbl for a while now, does the charge holding capacity actually decrease significantly in a year or two?

I wonder what the durability is like. I had a JBL, dropped it and it broke. I really wish they added the strap from the Stockwell II to the Emberton.
Greatest review ever from me 👍🏻👍🏻
My opinion
Emberton voice : more crystal like real live
Flip 5 voice : muffled
Another same : clarity and bass
Which speaker has better sound?
Hi..can someone help me..the 1st edition of marshall stockwell is it still relevan on 2021..i'm more into ballad, pop & pop rock music...
Can you do another review of the Marshall vs the equivalent in Ultimate Ears? Also, which one would you consider better for listening rock, punk, ska, reggae?
edison moreno yeah me too. The Boom 3 vs the Emberton would be great
Wonderboom 2 is definitely more powerfull believe me =) and more rugged. almost immortal
nuejimsi what about the Boom 3? It is smaller and more portable than the Wonderboom
navin advani nope, wonderboom is more portable, boom 3 is more like a jar design which i dont like. Maybe its slightly louder but i like the design and the sound of the wonderboom. Also stereo mode is killer.
I wasn’t sure which one to choose to give to my bf, but after the video I think the Marshall is so much more worthy. Hope he likes it, thanks for the review!
check for the jbl charge 5, the emberton is too pricey for its size
Got my emberton today . My previous one was a flip4 . Trust me flip is way better . JBL is an M4 and emberton is just a 4series
There is no punch in the bass what so ever. I tried convincing myself that marshall still the best out there, just for the love of it. It looks stunning.
@@jubeegoswami4819 jbl was good for 2 years. I stopped using it for a few months and when I started using it again, battery was draining fast. Coming to the sound, everything other classics sound bad. Jbl had the better overall performance in my experience
Thanks a lot
Cool. Do either or both of them have the ability to link multiple speakers? That could be a deal breaker or sealer.
JBL can do with other JBL speakers.
Can you compare Marshall Everton with Sony SRS XB33 ?
I wanna see this too
thanks for the video, dope tshirt
I haved this two for me I loved this two speakers
