- In this video I would like to show how I made a procedural lightning bolt in blender. Basically, this is just 3 verts with some modifiers (and some animation magic). Hope you enjoy!
This is my first video with voiceover, and it took so much powers, so your thoughts and comments are extremely helpful!

This was great! I have a few suggestions:
Talk slower when going through the steps of the process, especially the more complicated steps. You did this well for some parts and not as well for others. I got confused when adding the noise modifiers to the custom property for the lightning. I wound up having to slow the video to 0.25 speed, and even then it took a few times rewinding that section to understand why you were making those changes.
Second suggestion is just to give a little more explanation for each step. You don't have to do go too in depth, but all of the small animation steps with the custom property would have made more sense (and with fewer rewinds) if you explained in more detail why those steps were necessary. Talking fast in some sections without explaining what's going on made those sections more confusing.
But that's it! Your voice was clear and your explanations on the whole were clear. I was able to replicate this and I'm very happy with the result. I hope you do more tutorials like this in the future.

how would i be able to break up the lightning bold so instead of a constant bold, it looks like pieces of a bolt shooting up and breaking apart and shooting pulses in waves upwards?

Hey man, thanks for the tutorial. When I try to extrude at 0:20 It doesn't extrude, why is that ? Like nothing happens after I press E even tho I have the cube selected after I merge at center, thanks.
hi, maybe you deselected vertex? Try to press A for select all exist verts and extrude
Really Great Video, everything went fine, but I'm facing issue while exporting it in quicktime format, the color of lightening and surrounding changes, a tint color is added, is it a problem because of the bloom?
Can you show us how the lightning was attacked to the ball in the beginning
I dread tutorials like this. It's a total of 9 minutes but because of the rapid pacing it takes an hour to reproduce the same effect

MIDLEVEL option doesn t work that way. The hole mash is moving from center. Why s that?

For some reason blender crashes when trying to render this.. I think its the rapidly changing geometry thats causing issues. an empty scene with this lightning is making blender close itself within 3 frames, while way more complex scenes are no problem. :(
Do you use LTS 2.93 version? Some versions of Blender a bit unstable
@@iltaen Hey, I kept googling because the render would crash on specific frames only, and it was an issue with motion blur. Disabling it allowed me to render it out :)

Its not working, at adding clouds step, its not affecting the whole mesh, only the selected one vertex
2:05 you created texture Y, and then you didn't modify it, instead you modified texture X again, is that ok?
