I don't think you have done a video about the other option.. auto generated and if there is a way of making use of it.. (maybe as a guide or idea) ie is the auto generated a random choice or does it actually analyse the video?

Its broken, if you upload the exact same thumbnail in the 3 slots you will get different results for each, when in reality it should be the same or very close.
If you don't want to test 3 different thumbnails, you should just upload a single thumbnail and not run a test. RUclips does not recommend even testing similar thumbnails, so needless to say, you're wasting time test 3 identical thumbnails. How well does the tool work? The jury is out, we shall see over time.
@@NickNimmin I'm not op, but it is broken, if you uploaded 3 of the same image and one of those 3 has more watch time than the others, that is a proof that the style doesn't matter, what matters is the people it was shown to, for it to work properly it would need to show the all 3 thumbnails to the same person and whichever they click and watch more of is the winner.

Literally today, I changed a thumbnail on my latest video that wasn't getting views, (actually, it was the 4th thumbnail that I had used), and bingo, the views started instantly. Just goes to show different thumbnails work. So this feature will be used by me all the time.

I was wondering if you have a video on when is a good time to start looking for a manager to help with brand deals. How do I find a company who is familiar with our creator industry? What should I look for in a management person/company and what should I expect to pay for the service? I have done some research and have not been able to find the information I am looking for. Thanks for any information that you can share. Love your videos they have helped my channel grow from the beginning.

I want to start with shorts to grow my channel
RUclips shorts viewers are on shorts. Only the most engaged will flow through. Focus on making good content for both and you'll have crossover viewers.
1:50 This option isn't there for me yet, it gives me two options, being "Change" and "Download". Until I get the "test and compare" option, no point watching past 1:50

I wonder how much it would take on the technical side to have unlimited thumbnail testing. I agree there needs to be a limit on the number of thumbnails uploaded, so how about A through Z testing? Not too many, but also enough to try out a bunch of ideas.
Whilst you can test 3 at a time, you can run fresh tests once the previous test is done.
Can you do this after a video is already uploaded or only at the time of upload?
Both (once you have it).
I make 4 thumbnails for every video and still don’t have this option yet. Ugh

If we do an A/B test when our video is first published, won't the fact that all our subscribed viewers are going to be served our thumbnail affect the results? If so, should we wait a couple of days (or some other time period) before initiating such a test?
Yes. Publish and test. Wait 3 days and test again. Wait 28 days and test again. You can toss one in the middle too if you want.

@@NickNimmin I always make 4 thumbnails per video and rotate them out once YT slows down its impression rate. If the views are decent then I keep the original.

Thank you for making video on this update. I am working on improving thumbnails of my RUclips videos. For me, it takes a lot of time in making thumbnails. And, this feature is helpful. I will definitely try it.
Sucks that they gave this to the top percent of RUclipsrs before everyone else. As if they need MORE help than the rest of us. Smaller channels should have gotten this first, if anything.
They have about 50,000 channels of all sizes testing it. In any case, it should start rolling out to everyone over summer.

I wish they had put an A/B/C title test with the thumbnails.. 3 different title / thumbnail combinations would be way better!
Nick, this is a game changer. Unfortunately it has no meaning for me yet until it shows up on my studio.
I like it when the beta testing is short and the distribution is fast not the other way around when beta testing is long and distribution is real slow. Just my opinion of course.
Hey man, I just wanted to share the good news that after nearly 4 years of exhaustive work and taking in the countless advice you’ve given over time I’ve finally hit a video that gained nice momentum and track. I have 794 subs and this video just recently crossed 4.1k views.
I’ve tried to copy its success but so far has failed to gain traction on new videos. Meaning that I still haven’t find exactly what about my successful video made it successful because if I can figure that out I can replicate it.
But you have no idea how much I’ve been celebrating to finally break that slow momentum wall to finally start seeing significant differences. It felt like for the first time it wasn’t all a waste. And it’s thanks to you man. And others in yo it niche.
I had almost quit a few times. Frustrated and angry. But now I’m on to something. Just trying to figure out how to build off of this success and accelerate it.
I feel like I’m so close now to something great!

The thumbs will change but there isn't end screen specific testing.
I already swap out thumbnails from time to time.

I need to keep up with RUclips news, this is intresting, tho would one of the 50 thousand channels be based on subcount or just about every channel no matter what gets the feature?
They were picked based on how active and some are likely in a beta testing group as well. Big and smaller channels.

Does this affect CTR negatively? I know there’s a lot of factors that go into that, but every time I do a test I feel CTR is lower than normal for my channel.
Naturally the more impressions you get, the lower your CTR will be. That's not a negative thing, its simply math and human behaviour. As your video gets pushed out to more people, the more of those who will be less than a good a fit for the video, which means less people click the larger the impressions. Hopefully it also means you're getting more views, which is net positive overall.
All that being said, if the thumbnails being tested start to resonate with more people, RUclips will get your video in front of even more people which will bring your CTR down.
Evrytime i see a channel like yours with 900k subscribers and getting like 5k views I know i will never succeed 😥 I don't really understand what's going on with youtube in the past few years.
Keep in mind, in most niches, subscribers does not equal views. Over a journey that accrues 900k subscribers, viewers move on, they don't always unsubscribe, or they are on RUclips less often. In my niche, viewers are usually content creators, new RUclipsrs, but not everyone sticks with it. They might get bust, give up on doing RUclips, or grow out of needing regular advice from a channel like mine.
Your job isn't to be the biggest or the best (although you could be both), its to build a community around your channel, make content for and rock with those who have a connection with your vibe.

The score that tools give you are for you, not for RUclips. RUclips doesn't use third party tools to help you get your videos placed on the platform or to rank in search.

This one is more optimised for browse and suggested rather than search.

What do you think the minimum number of views on a video will give a valid test? For example, I only have a few videos out so far and the top 2 are 2.1k and 1.7k. Also is it worth it to spend a little time going back on some older videos or just go with the new releases?
If you’re still getting impressions on old videos then they can have tests also.
Sounds great! I always here from RUclips Channel Growth videos that you should make more than one thumbnail to figure out what makes a viewer want to click. I know they already had A B testing in TubeBuddy, but I think it will be much more effective built into the video uploader. Looking forward to this change!!

You can go back to old videos and use it too. All of the videos on your channel will have the option.

They don’t show specific data. Just watch time share.
Maybe its just my pessimism talking but isn't there potentially any downfalls to using 3 thumbnails, like your video not performing as well as it would have if you just used the best thumbnail to begin with?
Seeing it's a limited time test (no more than 2 weeks), I would not expect any long term downsides. You can lock in your preferred thumbnail once it's finished the test.

This seems to only be effective when you have a bunch of viewers to begin with. If I only have 50 views on a video I'm not sure the thumbnail is the problem. I need people who are interested in what my video is about to see my thumbnail. I don't seem to be reaching those people.
3 things that will affect how people respond to your videos initially. The most important one is the topic. Is it something that people are looking for, show a high level of interest in, or is generally entertaining to a broad audience? Without the right topics, even a great thumbnail or title won't be as effective.
The thumbnail is the next important, and its job is to grab attention and stop you scrolling to another video. The title's job is to give you enough intrigue in tandem with the thumbnail to get a viewer to click.
Figuring out the topic(s) for your videos is the #1 focus, but thumbnails are not far behind and the Test and Compare tool can still help you. They won't give you results until they have enough meaningful data.
So this is only available on computer, not mobile?
Right now, the beta is on desktop. I'm not sure what RUclips's plans are for mobile in regards to the initial rollout.

Correct. When the test is active, it shows the various thumbnails equally to different viewers.
My current video is not showing the thumbnail to viewers.
I can see it on my end. I have changed it, made sure it was the right format and size, chosen a screenshot from YT of the video, used a different computer to upload it and it still shows a gray thumbnail with 3 dots to the viewer for the thumbnail. What would cause this?
It could just be a display glitch. although if the file size for the thumbnail was too big, it might not take - but you typically get an error message in that case. Right now, what looks like a frame from the video as your thumbnail on the most recent video.

Test and Compare are still in testing. RUclips is hoping to rollit out widely later in 2024.

It won't hurt at all. If that upside down thumbnail issue persists, make sure to report that to RUclips.

No I Don't have it yet, That's why I'm here, If Not Now, When? it's March 1, 2024, Are they waiting For Christmas Because That's Late 2024 not Early 2024 and if they wait until April that's pushing it. Of course they're already Pushing it, with March, But it's still early in the year. So what's soon, as I said it's MARCH! What about Testing Thumbnails on old vids That have been on your Channel for years?
The best we've heard from RUclips is that it will be later in 2024. I'm not aware of any promise of an earlier launch. Yes, you can run tests on already uploaded videos.
