Thank you for this video. Yeah, said to someone else I've been on YT for almost about 20 yrs and so remember when suddenly all the song parody creators started getting in trouble back in early days as platform got big and they cracked down. But covers are everywhere and I like them, you discover all these small musicians/bands and they get noticed doing covers to draw people in.... but is weird why there is distinction when both are to some degree covered I was under the impression by freedom of expression or whatever. That is how SNL, MADtv, etc are able to do their things. That and Weird Al does ask permission but doesn't technically have to... but is a lot easier on him, I'm sure, to have the artist approval. Also clicked on this video from another for online shops and people getting in trouble for using trademarked content, but you still see others selling items with Disney and Pokemon characters etc... usually foreign scammers too that are getting away with it.
There was a time when I would learn about new artists and music due to it being used on RUclips videos and would then purchase their albums - now because we cannot use any of that content I never ever hear about them and haven't purchased a new album in years. I think all these copyright laws have done more damage to new artist as their work is no longer getting the same exposure it once did.. Instead they should have just made rules where you had to always put a link to the source of your content so that people could go and follow those accounts as well.
I agree . Im fairly sure no one is watching a RUclips video to listen to someones song without paying for it. That sounds ridiculous. Im sure the artists actually gain more than they lose being on RUclips. If someone openly uploads their music videos or makes a full blown music video with someones song in it then OK, but as background music on a video about kittens? Come on.
Also hurt fan content. I'm one of these old biddies that's been around since early days and so remember when suddenly all these creators I follow that did parody music started getting slapped with copyright notices. So they had to use generic.... but now you see musicians doing covers left and right. I happen to like covers and like you then go listen to them via yt music or add them to my spotify. But makes me wonder why that is okay but they are going to go after a creator for doing a parody when I was under the understanding that parody was supposed to be a covered form of speech (ie Weird Al, who asks for artist permission but technically doesn't have to... and then SNL and Madtv, etc). Anyway, yeah, and I did fanvideos or forgot what you would call them where I take a show I like and a song, and make a music video. I don't see them much anymore, but also don't seek them out... but yeah, started getting notices on my stuff around that time. They didn't get taken down but I looked just now bc one is an X-men Evolution video and the other Birds of Prey, so different owners 17 years later (yeah... and still up under my old anyastazya acct... the merger with google made things screwy so ended up with two accts) but I slapped notes on both that clearly not the owner of the properties and must've been enough. One now has a link to the song's music page added by YT since that band is still popular. I've still seen some fanvids over years but..... yeah, don't feel it's as big as 20 years ago but parodies are big with small bands getting lots of plays by doing them and always finding new ones that way. Just is confusing why they made that distinction...
People should also remember, any "fool" can report your channel. There is this channel, they got a copyright strike 3 times in a row, for using Joe Rogans footage and were about to lose their channel. Yet neither Joe Rogan nor his team reported it, actually they didn't care about the usage of their footage. A random person did it. Once Joe himself got involved the strike was removed. The fact tho anyone can claim copyright strike is insane to me

Thank you. No waffle, no veiled sales speak and no nonsense advice. I had stopped making videos on my channel because those who offered help always turned out to be 'sign up here for a monthly fee' to learn more. I started my channel with no money, and I still have no money particularly after paying out for 3rd party services for 'free' images, AI services and software for creative purposes. And because it is so genuine, helpful, no hard sells and precise, in the future I would not object to contributing to you in some way. I guess what I'm saying is thanks, for all your efforts.
On the first point, I've found that in very rare occasions unchecking the subs box can potentially allow the video to grow to a new audience. I'll only do this when I know that my core base of subscribers wouldn't be interested in the video, but it's a trending topic and I want to make the video anyway. If I put the potentially trending video to subs who I know will click straight off then the video just dies after a few days never to grow again, but unchecking the box has sometimes allowed a video to grow to a larger and new audience (although it takes a lot longer).
It was similar for me when I started the channel and it worked at the beginning. Funny thing happened, though. After the channel grew a bit, subscribers themselves asked me to turn notifications on. The takeaway for me was: listen to your subscribers. 😊
I've watched this over a few times, I do appreciate the info available here. I use to own a Musician's account on RUclips, I chose to collaborate with various other musicians as well. Though once one of the musicians were signed on to a contract with a Recording Studio. That same guy chose to slam me with copyright strikes, he shut down my entire channel I had for nearly 10 years. He even went as far as taking complete ownership of all the Full-Length instrumentals I had uploaded on to my own channel. This musician use to be like my best friend too. Ever since then I just refuse to feature in any other Musician's productions, I spent years on producing instrumentals almost daily.
One piece of advice that I took from you when you first spoke about the protection and the email stuff is that if you reach out to brand first, then you know that you’ve done the official thing because you’ve gone to the official website however if after that, you get a brand-new one of them acting like they don’t know that you want to work with them you know it’s a scam because you’ve already got the thread going about that subject.
Thanks for the video. I only started here when all those creator videos were popular a few years ago now. I've found myself missing a lot of time during a medical hardship and now I just mostly make comments. It's like I am having a long creative block and I comment about what I survived going through instead of just having fun giving it a shot.
Priceless information once again Nick! Thank you so much for this as a new channel owner, I need all the help I can get especially from Canada which just implemented new rules on top of the You Tube ones... A lot to consider.. I think I'm going to watch this a few times. I also love the way you speak and express yourself, bam bam bam! Never boring haha! ;-)
This is packed with essential tips that every RUclips creator needs to hear. The warning about disabling subscriber notifications is so important-it's wild how quickly bad advice can spread as "hacks" when they actually harm your channel's growth. Staying consistent with notifications keeps your audience engaged and helps the algorithm understand your content better. The part about giveaways and the rules around them is something I feel a lot of creators overlook. RUclips's guidelines might seem strict, but following those requirements is crucial to avoid strikes. Plus, having clear disclosures is just good practice for building trust with your audience. The privacy and safety advice at the end really stood out. Small details, like blurring house numbers or avoiding stickers with personal info, are things many people don't think about until it's too late. Pairing that with smart email management and being careful with suspicious links is such an effective way to protect yourself as a creator. It's a reminder that growing on RUclips isn't just about content but also about staying secure and mindful.
Thanks for sharing this video! I did want to mention the not notifying subscribers comment. I didn’t remember you mentioning this, but if you are switching niches it was said that this setting could be helpful because you may have a segmented audience that doesn’t watch your content and it can mess with how much your video is distributed. I personally used this because I was in the niche of hair originally and a lot of my old subscribers were for that. So for the first few videos I unchecked that box. Just wanted to stop by and mention this! As always, thanks for the awesome content

Great info! Thank you! The not clicking on link was so insightful because i just heard of a channel that lost their whole channel and website stolen from clicking on a "contract" link. Crazy world!
Well the only reason I turn off my publish to subscribers feed is because of 2 reasons. 1: even when I had it on my subscribers didn't even watch my videos when they were posted. I'd go to my analytics and any views I had would be not subscribed and barely any would be subscribed to. 2: my friend had turned it off and said it had worked for him and so I decided to give it a shot. So far it's been working for me and I've gained subs, views, and comments, so I'm still doing good. I don't really know what vids or topic my audience liked get either so. I'm still a small channel so I'm still trying to build my audience. I mean I can always post a community post on my channel for the subscribers on when a video is posted if that helps.
Great video Nick. I have used pictures of celebrities in some of my thumbnails, however as you said, it was only because I talked about them in my video, and I always sourced my pictures so I could legally use them. Thank you for the comment about the music and keeping a copy of the license even if it was free to use, it wasn't something I had realized.
As a channel newly dedicated to trying to grow and gain viewers I found many parts of this video useful. It’s very difficult to get monetized and gain viewers these days, and these little tips are very helpful
Packed with soo many helpful tips! I was being led astray by unchecking the show to Subscribers box on some of my videos mistakenly thinking (due to another advice channel) that it would be harmful because I have a few different types of content on my channel that fall under a larger umbrella. Just deleted a ton of third party connections thanks to you as well!
Dang man glad your still making videos! I got a lot of tips from you back in the day. I'm still using programs you recommended like pixel lab, and also Kinemaster. I'm on my second channel now. Just plugging away. It seems to be picking up some traction. Appreciate all of the advice.
Thank you for all the great information! I'm just about to start my own channel and it never hurts to have as much knowledge as you can BEFORE you mess up.😂
Thanks so much Nick.... 🙂 Really informative, like always. That email link thing happened to me but luckily I did not click on any link and just googled the company and their information. Sorry, coming back to RUclips world after our family break which was real fun 🙂 Take it easy mate and have a lovely day.
the unchecking notify subs thing was more of an aimed at shorts thing. iv unchecked that box everytime i uploaded a short and its performed better than anything else. but i did it on long form stuff and no it didnt work. So i feel and this comes from just me it worked on my shorts as the shorts shelf is quick fire and subs dont really need to be notified of them. Just my 2 cents though
@@NickNimmin i mean it could do with more testing but its the only reason why i think the idea exists in the first place. like i wouldnt like to get notified from a shorts channel when they upload 20 times a do so its the only reason to uncheck the box
@@Hybridsteel I'm very new but checking the subscribers box always tanks my CTR numbers. Leaving it unchecked allows RUclips to "find" my audience vs. alerting my dead followers - or so say other RUclipsrs. I honestly don't know.
I like how one of the rules are not to curse on videos as brand new or anyone but yet Music videos and all that have a mass amounts of cursing and very questioning content with in those Music videos.

@OfficialDeathway im dealling with this verry same thing. I know your right personally. I have already lost faith in youtube. How many others are paying to have movies made and getting copyright strike for makeing music from wind instraments in there bedroom?
@@DonnovanWolfFilms hahah that’s exactly what I’ve going through too. I make my music from scratch and still found somebody tried copyrighting me several times too.
In British law if you have a website you have to include the number you were given when you registered a company or charity. Anyone can then do a search for the publically available information for that company or charity. This includes the names and addresses of the directors or trustees, accounts, and annual reports. I have even found extracts from a document dating from 1860s when a church was founded on the Charity Commission website. One reason why so many companies use their accountant's address as a registered business address.
Great information! The part about third party access and how to check through Google was super helpful, all of the video was honestly but that part I especially enjoyed
Thanks for all the information I just wish I could have you here to help me get this channel off and running its been so slow getting it going. I have learned a ton tonight.
No, you can download thumbnails the way he mentioned. You just can't tell others how to do that, in a video that is uploaded to RUclips. THAT is what can get you a strike.
Go read Community Guidelines. never download people's thumbnails and use them as your own.. I caught someone using about 10 of my thumbnails. Thumbnails that I worked hours on even days to create... even though they looked simple they were complex ( an artist would understand). long story short: So that channel doesn't exist anymore.
@@dailyhubranx Oh yikes that is rough how they stole your thumbnails like that. Thumbnails do take lots of time to make (more than most people assume). Although I was more thinking of downloading others thumbnails to study them and see how they design them so I can apply what I learn to my own thumbnails. Just using their exact thumbnails as if they were your own definitely isn't right though.
Great video, thank you. There seem to be two themes that recur, from yourself and others: a. RUclips take downs and demonitising can still be capricious, even if you follow the rules, and b. It's very, very, labour intensive to check quality. Youtubing is a full time job if you want to do it properly, and you still run the risk of your investment being trashed with no accountability on RUclips's part. You really have to be okay with that before starting.
In most cases, RUclips are going to attempt to enforce their rules in a fair manner. There can be errors, and they can get it very wrong at times. Fortunately there is also appeal processes to get you a fighting chance to argue your case if they get it wrong. I would not let the possibility of that dissuade you from making content on the platform.
I am glad this video showed up. I didn't know that about the give-away, I am new and clearly have a lot to learn and change. Thanks for sharing all this.

Thanks for sharing! 1 year in and learning as fast as I can! ❤🎉🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶
I remember watching you back when I first started my RUclips channel. I've learned a lot since then. Thank you! I even have a sponsor now, Aura!
Congrats on getting a sponsor!
@@NickNimmin thanks!!
New small youtuber here. Thanks for the tips. I am still learning every day. I appreciate you spent quality time on making such an educational video.
Glad you enjoyed it. More to come.
Thankyou for sharing, there is so much to learn it can be difficult to know where to start first. Privacy is so important too
Thank you again Nick for all your helpful information. Your channel has led me to many wonderful creators and friends. Have a wonderful week.
@KktravelandEducationvlogkc3zk Hey good to see you my friend!
Same to you!
@@NickNimmin Thank you!
This is so very valuable -- as an education and as a reminder. Critical information in both areas, RUclips and personal safety.
Thank you so much for the insight on the email thing 😅❤
As a channel newly dedicated to trying to grow and gain viewers I found many parts of this video useful. It’s very difficult to get monetized and gain viewers these days, and these little tips are very helpful
So much to learn and be mindful of for safety. Thank you.
Thanks Nick for your update. Will surely keep your advise in mind while making videos.
Far too many crucial insights I had no idea about. Much appreciated ❤
Thank you Nick so much
Thanks, this video is so valuable to us creators!
Really needed to hear this today ❤
Dang man glad your still making videos! I got a lot of tips from you back in the day. I'm still using programs you recommended like pixel lab, and also Kinemaster. I'm on my second channel now. Just plugging away. It seems to be picking up some traction. Appreciate all of the advice.
Hey 👋. Thanks for swinging by. Definitely still at it. 🤓
Thank you for all the great information! I'm just about to start my own channel and it never hurts to have as much knowledge as you can BEFORE you mess up.😂
All the best with your channel! 🤓 ✋
Thanks for the information about this. I will keep this in mind in the future.
Thanks Nick
Wow! Crazy... Thanks Nick for keeping us up!!❤
Glad I could help! 👊🤓
Very useful. Thanks Nick 🎉
Glad you think so!
WOW Nick! Thank you so much for this information! Appreciate you.
My pleasure!
Good information that I will use. I'm just at 51 subs and so much misinformation out there. Leaving notify subscribers checked.
68 subs now. You are growing.
This information is actually very useful thank you so much
Glad you think so!
Great stuff thanks !!
You bet!
Extremely helpful info! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much Nick.... 🙂
Really informative, like always. That email link thing happened to me but luckily I did not click on any link and just googled the company and their information. Sorry, coming back to RUclips world after our family break which was real fun 🙂
Take it easy mate and have a lovely day.
🤓👊
Great video, always learning when I stop by the channel!
Glad to hear it!
I literally had someone go to my vets office and try to get my address. Luckily my vet didn’t give out my info.
Oh wow, that's creepy!
Thanks for the tips. Trying to grow a channel is tedious already, the last thing we need is to suffer any of these setbacks!
the unchecking notify subs thing was more of an aimed at shorts thing. iv unchecked that box everytime i uploaded a short and its performed better than anything else. but i did it on long form stuff and no it didnt work.
So i feel and this comes from just me it worked on my shorts as the shorts shelf is quick fire and subs dont really need to be notified of them.
Just my 2 cents though
Thanks for the info.
@@calabamian So if it sends it out to followers YT doesn't push it elsewhere? That doesn't seem right. 🤔
Great Share & Advice Nikk thank You much 🙏 👍🏽
3:13 mr beast 😆😆
I like how one of the rules are not to curse on videos as brand new or anyone but yet Music videos and all that have a mass amounts of cursing and very questioning content with in those Music videos.
From this I’ve learned that no matter what you do, RUclips isn’t going to share your video anyway. It’s up to you to annoy tf out of everyone until someone cares enough to give you a shot.
That is not the takeaway you should be going with. It's an objectively wrong statement in any case.
@@NickNimmin it shows determination, however I agree with you. RUclips has given me the audience I look for. I didn’t know most of this information and I will rewatch your video again and again, lol thanks for the advice!
@@NickNimmin so, are you indeed saying that RUclips is the great equalizer and that everybody gets a fair try at an audience? I don't think so.
There is no reason to use profanity if you have a rich vocabulary.
💯
@dailyhubranx not necessarily
Let's agree to disagree. I'm well spoken and still have a toilet for a mouth.
Wow this was eye opening. I always thought hashtags helped. I will definitely cut down thanks
Really appreciate these tips. I'm about to start a new RUclips channel and this is very helpful. Thank you!
The email change was a great point in this video!!! thanks
Great information! The part about third party access and how to check through Google was super helpful, all of the video was honestly but that part I especially enjoyed
Thank you very much, you’re helping many beginner RUclipsrs with this. Thnx Nick 💪👍🙏
You got it! 💪
Big ups to you Nick, nice video
Thanks for all the information I just wish I could have you here to help me get this channel off and running its been so slow getting it going. I have learned a ton tonight.
Great video 😁👍 Thank you so much 😊
Excellent and to the point advice!
Thank you Nick ❤
I had no idea downloading thumbnails like you mentioned could get you a community guidelines strike like that. Glad I know that now!
No, you can download thumbnails the way he mentioned. You just can't tell others how to do that, in a video that is uploaded to RUclips. THAT is what can get you a strike.
@@app103 I see. Thanks!
Yes, I got the strike to teaching people how to do it.
Thank you for the information! I really learned a lot.
Glad it helped! 👊🏻🤓
Thanks I'm learning a lot from you. Some information you shared I didn't know. Be blessed
🤓👊
Thank you sir.
This journey is getting tougher everyday. God will help us🙏
great email. Thank you! (I didn't know about the second email account, nor did I know about download PDF contracts. Thank you!)
Thank you 🙏🏻 so very deeply ❤important information ℹ️ I saw that information on another channel so huge thanks 🙏🏻 😊
I am glad this video showed up. I didn't know that about the give-away, I am new and clearly have a lot to learn and change. Thanks for sharing all this.
Glad to help, it's important to get the fundamentals right!
Thank you Nick for this helpful video!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Your camera is incredibly sharp! You can really see it when you zoom in on your beard.
