I met someone early in my YT journey randomly because we were making similar content and we started commenting on each other’s videos. We have since become really good friends and communicate daily! It makes such a huge difference to have even one person to go through this with that gets it. If it weren’t for her I probably would have quit already! I do think it’s hard to find people to network with though. Maybe a video on how to do just that would be helpful?
Good call on the video about how to do it! Yeah, my YT buddies have helped me get through some challenging parts of the journey as well.
I find it very difficult
Commenting on each other content is very helpful
@@NickNimmin Hi am a new youtuber and i need help on how to create cartoon animation videos cuz i dont know how to do it
@@playingthemomgame thanks to your comment and being pinned I now have subscribed to your channel and wish you only the best! I am a Mom 👩🏾 Muslim and I have four kids 👧 👧 🧒 👦 living here in New York City for now. Take care and please don’t give up!
I am definitely not the seemingly out of nowhere content creator 😢. I had my channel for 4 years before I hit 1K June 2024.
I was 3 months to giving up and it was my subscribers who told me to stick it out. This channel has been so helpful Nick. I'll be sticking with this channel for forever 😊❤❤
You've got some wise subscribers!
I'm a former teacher and realised last year that most of my skills transfer directly to youtube. Been thinking, planning and tinkering and I'm almost ready to start my own channel!
Great light bulb moment there!
I’m a former trainer and while my channel is still tiny (20 subs as of now), I did find my presentation skills easily transfer. it’s a small part of all the other aspects for success here, but speaking/teaching people already has been helpful for me. Good luck!!!
You have such a warmth in your delivery. It feels like you truly care about your audience.
That's because I do care. Thanks for saying that!
i think he cares for real
@@NickNimmin I believe it, 110%
Correct 😊
He does care. I've been a subscriber for a while now. He's VERY authentic and it shows.
I started 2 RUclips channels 4 and half months ago, I now have over 5000 subscribers. I am more than amazed and grateful!💙💞
What is the link to your other channel??
@@WheeJones Hi, WheeJones! here is my other channel name. Growing Forever Young 50+ 💙
@ Thanks!
@@WheeJones you are most welcome!
I was looking for my tribe of creators. ✨💫I think this is the main reason I haven’t been apart of a YT creator circle. Many of the channels here are completely different from mine. Happy to come across a creator in a similar niche. The 5k subs is inspiring. ✨
Nick is the only RUclipsr I feel that gives you advice that really matters. Thank you Nick for staying real and providing great tips
Thanks for the kind words Robert!
@@NickNimmin Its true Nick, and you always try your best to respond to your viewers thanks so much. I'm trying to get back into creating but having a hard time getting motivated
I 💯% agreeing with you
@@RobertGossCreator I agree 💯
Agreed!!!
Really great info here, Nick. A lot of this ties into personal branding and soft skills. In my 7+ years on RUclips, I can attest that it's easy to get bogged down in the details about how to make a video (quality, length, etc), but none of that will matter if you're not connecting with the person on the other side taking their time to watch your video. The paradox is, you gotta get them into the video to start to make that connection, and there are hard skills (topics, thumbnails, titles, hooks) you need also, and that stuff constantly evolves with the platform and audience interests.
Being a creator is really like navigating a 3D surface which is constantly moving. I enjoy riding the waves! (Most of the time)
Yeah Jerry, I hear you. It's like juggling flaming bowling pins while on a treadmill that's swaying from side to side randomly...lol.
I love your videos and thanks for all your advice
Glad you like them! ...and thank you for the Super Thanks!!
This is not what gatekeeping looks like. I’m so happy to see the complete opposite.
Thanks. 🙏
I feel like when you love and have a passion for a game or topic, it shows on stream. That’s the number one ingredient.
So true!
The buttery smoothness of the presentation in this video is my entire RUclips aspiration, so help me God.
I appreciate that. Keep in mind I've been doing this for over 10 years now, not to say it takes ten years - keep experimenting!
If there was an award for the nicest most approachable guy on RUclips, I’d have to give it to you Nick. I’ve been watching your content for years now and you’ve so sincere and enjoyable to listen to. Sometimes I already know what you’re talking about but I just listened because I like to hear it from you. Keep up the amazing work and I can’t wait to celebrate your 1 million subscribers soon!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm appreciate it!
Thank you Nick so much for leaning in on this topic. You got me with the Thumbnail lol I'm not an introvert at all, but with this RUclips stuff I'm retired and I don't want this to ever feel like work whatsoever. This is one of the reasons I will not commit to videos every week, even know I actually do put videos out every week, I don't want or need that pressure.
I'm no expert on YT, but Nick is and he told me 18 months ago that I did NOT NEED A COACH, and he was so RIGHT!!!!!!! I call Nick my "coach" because I have committed to his teaching style and it was a perfect fit for me. Nick is personally responsible for most of my already new success on RUclips because of the valuable information he puts out. I can sit here all day and give Nick compliments, but it comes down to your own desire. If you need help on RUclips, stop looking around for that quick hack on YT because it doesn't exist, short cuts CLICKBAIT!
Thank you Nick Nimmin!!!! Now I'm off to Home Depot to grab materials to re-texture a wall that used to be covered in mirror from floor to ceiling, yes there will be a Short video! Peace Out!
Thanks for the kind words but YOU are the one responsible for the results you’ve gotten so far.
@@NickNimmin I knew you were going to say that, ok but with you my friend it is not possible. Just keeping it REAL!
@@BuildwithMooney he's right, a coach gives you tips and strategies but ultimately, YOU are the one who implements them.
@@BuildwithMooney your success is only in part Nick's.
You make the most lost creators feel hopeful. I wish you had your own startup program 😊
Thanks. If I get enough people requesting it I'll create one.
@@NickNimminkeep me posted if you decide to offer that. I’ve been trudging along for years. When I was like 300 subs away from 1K, overnight 300 subs were gone. Very discouraging. I do like your content and delivery. TY
A program from him would be Fantastic
@ Yeah it would. I understand him.
@@NickNimmin I am requesting
I am not a strong communicator and shy but still want to grow my channel
You've just identified the next thing you need to work on. Lots of good sources of information out there on how to hone your communication skills. I hope you do it and succeed!
Thank you Nick. Good topic. Your videos helped me to grow to almost 1 million subs. I have 4/5 traits. This year, I’ll see if I can network with other RUclipsrs in my niche.🎉
I create content for a trading card game and just over a year ago we lost a beloved creator to cancer. He had a saying, "If you're doing it alone, you're doing it wrong." That quote from him has stuck with me. The company that makes the game even made a card with the quote on it. I firmly believe it.
Reading is so important. The ability to comprehend complicated topics and effortlessly communicate is one of the most valuable skills anybody can have. The only way to do that is to read, and the best readers are the ones with the most intellectually curiosity
Thank you for your encouragement! I do believe I have the correct traits. I just need to work on improving the quality of my videos. I have no fear to just through videos out there. I just need to take more time to improve them. I’m on 820 subs today- can’t wait to hit the 1000. And then the 4000 hours of course. I feel like I can do this!!!
One of the biggest assets of being a successful content creator is being consistent and a personality trait of being introverted helps
Been at it for 2+ years. Trying to learn and develop every day. Growth is slow, but I just keep going at it
👊 🤓
Introvert Slow Living RUclipsr here, refusing to stop (after not being monetized for 2,5 years) :-) I must say that I find the networking thing difficult. I'd love to network and build a group of likeminded RUclipsrs around me, but it's hard to find people that are as committed to this as well as in a similar genre and position that want to network as well 😅 any advice on HOW to create such a network?
Creative Mornings is in almost every country. Not all RUclipsrs there but you can meet some there by talking to each other.
New RUclipsr looking to build my community. I think this is so true, you just gotta keep going and don’t stop! Thank you and I look forward to meeting other creators!
You got this!
@ I appreciate all that you do!
dude here is something i learned myyself , take 2 - 3 1/2 hours editing and learning the new software editor youre using this by doing so you'll be able to get comfortable enough using the editor that you can make editing easier for yourself and save headaches also while at it
@ I love editing great advice!
@ youre welcome sir, i also would start with vsdc keep it simple and learn the softare i see editing as remove what you dont want in your content
We have to go through the process, keep learning and keep doing the thing.
Thanks Nick
Nick, your lighting, vocals and set design are amazing (you can really tell on the close ups)!! I'm a long-time follower and fan. A great video!
I appreciate that! 👊🤓
Very easy to understand explanation, helps small channels like me Thank You Nick
My pleasure. Glad you’re getting value from it.
Hey Nick! Just found your channel today. I am a brand-new creator and I just started my channel in December 2024.
I am mostly a gaming channel that plays and talks about video games that I like. I have so many ideas for different types of videos but thanks to your videos, I see now how my thinking needs to change.
Again, I am brand new and just need to publish, publish, publish so the algorithm finds my audience for me.
Thank you for being so thorough and blunt. It has helped me understand what my channel needs most: my genuine and honest soul.😀
YT is definitely interesting, but only have limited time for it, let's see where I stand in a year's time. Thanks for another great video!
#1 ✅️ super passionate about learning, especially about my niche
#2 ✅️ great communication skills and ability to explain concepts
#3 🚫 this is my current challenge, i overthink and get scared to get it wrong, which has kept me in freeze mode for years, but fortunately i am currently overcoming this fear and i have a new experiment that will help me unlock my fear
#4 🚫 no network, i am so open to it but haven't yet found my tribe yet
#5 ✅️ I'm definitely very stubborn, i have a vision, had it for years and i have a no plan B mindset, I'm going all the way there's no turning back
I definitely need to be more mindful of pausing. I often just talk rapid fire, but having thoughtful pauses will be better, allowing the viewer to really absorb what I’m saying. Networking is so important too and I enjoy that.
@@CoachSherri I also need to work on pausing.
@@CoachSherri Nah, you do you. As a viewer I hate pauses and watch most videos at 2x speed. Only so much time to learn as much as possible!
I believe I possess all those personality traits that you mentioned lol. I started my channel in May 2019, and along the way I've learned so many things that helped my channel grow (some from you, Nick, for which I am truly grateful :). Even though my channel is currently demonetized until I reapply on February 16 for remonetization, I continue to upload shorts and videos just to let YT know - as well as my followers - that I don't have any intention to stop and that monetization is not my priority. I think my biggest challenge is convincing repeat viewers (who are not subscribers) into subscribing to my channel, you know, people who can't commit. Lol. Anyway, my goal this year is to double my current number of subscribers, so I will have to work extra hard. :)
Hi Nick hope your well, great advice!
For me as a small RUclipsr, being genuine and honest is a essential trait, people respect you more.
Make mistakes and learn from them
I recently I got a bunch of nasty and vile comments which really affected my mental health,I pulled my channel offline for a break of several months
Lesson learned,I dusted myself down, got my channel back up and now got strict comment moderation in place with many cuss words added in the filters
hopefully now RUclips will help me keep those types of comments out
Glad you're back, Dave!
@@NickNimmin thanks Nick,much appreciated.
Thanks Nick!
Amazing teaching.❤
It hard but if you keep searching and learn from people channel , you can make it
You do have a lot of good advice on this video and I do agree with it. I think what you do is absolutely amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing.
I appreciate that! 👊🤓
Great information for small creators like myself, especially networking and supporting one another. Thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
The more I see RUclipsrs sitting in front of visible microphones, in addition to all the live-streams, the more I tend to think of RUclips as a career in "broadcasting." I noticed it especially when headphones are worn, and I'm reminded of Howard Cosell. Then you have to ask yourself, "Do I want to be in broadcasting?" Only, not only are you broadcasting, but you're required to deal with all the technical aspects as well...mics, cameras, lighting, set-ups, scripts...it gets overwhelming. Howard Cosell had it easy!
There are many ways to do RUclips and vlogging is only one of them.
Howard Cosell had a team that made sure he looked and sounded good, but those days are long over (unless you ARE on corporate television or radio). It would have been interesting to see what some of the old announcers would have done with RUclips though.
Already subscribed. Can listen to you all day long, man, because whatever you say makes a lot of sense and helped most of us understand how to go about things in our own channels. Thanks
I appreciate that 👊 ✋
great video Nick, you really come across like you care about your viewers, thank you :)
I appreciate that! 👊🤓
I started my content creation 1 month ago and I'm progressively getting better though slower
You always guide me on the best things to do to help me grow.
🤝
Actually very insightful. I have over 7 years experience with live streaming but video content frightens the fire out of me. This account here was a wild idea off my norm and honestly learning as we go. Watching this makes me feel a bit better about all the efforts. Look forward to catching more of your content.
What's the best place to connect with other youtubers?
On Facebook and Discord. Some facebook groups that are reputable are Tube Rutual, RUclips Creators and Creators Helping Creators.
@@NickNimmin Thank you Nick~~~
Thanks nick. Great motivator. Needed to hear during difficult times.
Glad to hear it!
Great advice, thank you
Honestly the best advice here is finding a community of youtubers you can chat with. Your family and friends won't related to your challenges or wins, and having like minded people to bounce ideas off of is great! I lucked out and happened to watch a video from another strategy channel that had a smaller youtuber on that started recently getting some success and he mentioned he had a small discord group of youtubers, I asked if I could join and they let me it has been the best thing that has ever happened to me after doing this for almost 5 years now, I don't feel alone anymore.
That’s awesome! Glad you found your community.
I highly appreciate you for covering the best info in this one video❤
Thanks!
Thanks Nick! Lots of useful ideas!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! 🤓👊
The ones I watch usually are well planned and thought out on the content they intend to cover, show their mistakes without shame (makes them relatable and human), have a cheerful attitude and some fun personality quirks. Some reference their families and occassionally show moments of joy and even hardships (everyone being sick or a brief stint in the hospital), making them more relatable to their audience. They're also in most cases very organized in their craft rooms, spaces, etc. Being humble and not arrogant also helps a lot. And yes, many will try new things for a project that they haven't done before and show you what they learned from it too. Skills take time to build, so don't expect perfection every time or right away. And giving credit where credit is due also doesn't hurt.
Thanks for this! I think point #2 really hits home, especially as a new person creating content. When you are new you are nervous and thinking about yourself (or at least, I am), it takes more effort to forget about yourself and think more about what you are saying is actually being received. Obvious to type out but it's easy to shift focus and lose that detachment. I've been enjoying creating content just because I love what I talk about, but it is tough spending a lot of time on something only to not have anyone pay it much attention. Will work on incorporating these tips. :)
Thanks Nick
👊 🤓
Great breakdown! I’d add that understanding audience psychology is also key-successful creators don’t just adapt and learn, they deeply analyze what makes people click, watch, and engage. Loved the insights!
Yes absolutely. Thanks for that addition!
Thanks Nick. Thanks for your sincere tips on RUclips . These tips are really helpful for small creators like me. 👍
No problem!
This reminds me of the personality video you did 7 years ago, good stuff!
Its almost like your directly speaking to me! Are you stalking me? lol! awesome stuff, another great video! best part is, i can see you utilizing everything you talked about in the last video i watched in your own content, great stuff!
Ha! I was using TikTok to access your phone but I'm blocked now...rofl. j/k.

I have seen success just by being myself and connecting with like minded people.
I have created some great relationships here. I created a community of small creators and we talk everyday and help each other. It definitely keeps me motivated to keep going.
I haven't seen your videos for a long time Nck but you still have the ability to deliver a lot of information in a short time so i still have lots of respect for you my friend.
I also appreciate your inspiration. That's what I needed today.

It’s definitely a learning process and it’s nothing negative about making content :))all good stuff ✨

Yeah, the creator community is pretty awesome.
Some great points that might seem self explanatory, yet can be so easily overlooked, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

You are absolutely right I always say a growth mindset is key to being successful at anything, not just RUclips!!

I've been really trying to be mindful of how I present my intro/hooks in my last couple of videos and it seems to have helped alot. Very good advice in this video!

Thanks Nick! I love learning and I’m extremely determined. I also love networking with other people in my niche. I do have some trouble communicating verbally because I have Hydrocephalus and Epilepsy. It’s something I constantly work on.
That makes sense, good call doing ASMR. Maybe joining some Facebook or Discord forums around your niche where you can text chat instead of talk might be the way to go.
@ Thanks for the tips! I make a lot of unintentional ASMR videos that focus on fiber art.

Just started, trying to figure it all out 😊 thanks for the insight!
There is a lot to learn. Pace yourself and think of your viewers and the experience they are going to have with your content first.
It's all about persons communication skill set and on air personality. I've noticed that people in my niche who are successful on RUclips often come from backgrounds that transfer well to the platform, such as teachers, public speakers, preachers, TV production, and TV producers. This personality skill set doesn't always make them the best, but they are the most enjoyable to watch. I've watched channels with actual experts, real experts, who have only a few hundred followers. But they are just hard to watch and listen to. Sometimes, you need to look at it as not always the most knowledgeable person for the subject or niche is the one you see. What you see mostly is the person with the best personality skill set within that subject or niche, not the subject expert.
In some cases yes.
My plan is to push back. A lot of people want to go back to the classic days of youtube. They dont care how the platform is changing, they just want to watch people "broadcast [them]self" like it used to be. So I want to lean into that, since I was around in those days, and I know how to do that version of youtube decently. I mean sure, I might mix in some modern stuff too. There have definitely been some changes for the better. I'll just create what I want, and if no one watches, well at least I tried.
