IMHO the Fierce Deity mask is the greatest reward for fully exploring a game in all of my memory. Does it make the fight anticlimactic? Sure, but getting to decimate Majora so utterly feels fantastic.
Super Metroid is a game that does a great job with this. You absolutely destroy Mother Brain with the Hyper Beam and it’s barely even a fight, but it doesn’t feel anticlimactic at all. You feel like a god.
I know not everyone loves the manga, but the manga has the PERFECT final line for Link as well as a summation of what the Fierce Deity Mask is: Majora'a Wrath: I LIKE GAMES! EVERYONE DOES! EVERYONE EXCEOT YOU! Fierce Deity Link: Alright then... NO MORE GAMES!!
The ease of the final fight WITH the Fierce Deity Mask is to give you an implication of its absurd power and make you feel like the nearly unkillable boss. It's supposed to be effortless for the Fierce Deity to kill Majora. Without the mask, obviously it's a real fight.
Yo the idea that the giants look like the moon is crazy. The mask pulled so much grief out of skullkid that the Avenue majora used to create destruction caused skullkid to carve the moon into in a reflection of his deepest grief. His first time being abandoned. Skull kid knows that they left for a greater purpose but takes it very personally anyway.
fun fact: I got to the end of Majora's Mask on my own, but I had to use the strategy guide to learn not to touch the joystick in the last Goron power-roll segment. love the game to death, it is one of the best, but that part can die in a fire
@@ryanstarkweather3625 I was really young, this was pre-geometry for me, and pretty frustrated because I had a vocal audience, but yea. I mean it's the only instance when you need to let go of the stick, idek if I knew you could do that
You think it's bad on the original? It's even WORSE on the 3DS because you now have full 360⁰ movement instead of 8 precise directions. Getting Link to stay straight is literally like running on a tightrope.
The 'good guys vs bad guys' thing makes a lot more sense in japanese, and didn't translate over well at all. What they tried to translate was the idea of a japanese children's game similar to 'cops and robbers', where the 'robbers' are 'oni' and the 'cops' are 'oni hunters'. That's the reason behind the 'when you're bad, you just run'. Also, in japanese the 'Fierce Deity's Mask' is called the 'Kishin no Kamen'. 'Mask of the Demon God'. Demon = oni, so you can see how things line up in the original script but are completely lost in translation. Majora couldn't exactly say "let's play 'cops and robbers'" and then give you the Fierce Deity's Mask.
@@alejandromolina7270 I just found the name of the 'cops and robbers'-like game, it's Onigokko. At least according to online translators, gokko translates to 'pretend', and another source said it means 'pretend to be an oni'. Not sure if that helps with your ideas in that regard. I got nothing.
They should've just called it demons and hunters then. Does anyone expect a zelda game to use real life games? It's a fantasy game, makes complete sense to me to also have a game that no one knows in the western world.
@@BlackStarSymphony I mean, yeah, but it'd have to be a thing introduced before-hand. Otherwise they can't just expect you to be "Oh ok." that or they'd have to put an explanation of what it is after.
When skull kid says you smell like the fairy kid who thought me that song, if i remember right in ocarina of time you can get a piece of heart in the lost woods if you play saria’s song to the flute dude who looks like skull kid. At the end when they show the carving they even play saria’s song.
The fact arin thought 'yea no' and 'no yea' were a Florida thing is insane. It's just a simplified version of the Canadian 'yea no yea' and 'no yea no'
Interestingly, I live in The Nederlands and one of our provinces (Groningen) actually also says "yes no" and "no yes". It something that most, who don't live there, make fun of it because you never know what they want. Might as well just say maybe 👀👀
Aerin: Why can't I talk to this Stone?! Also Aerin: Has his sword out and locked onto therefore causing every action button press being an attack rather than interaction. (Gotta love that old school design)
Honestly, people doing lets plays should fight Majora _without_ the fierce deity mask, at least the first time. It's fun, but it makes the fight way too anticlimactic for a theatrical production, especially in situations like this where you're showing the game off to a friend like Dan who hasn't played it before. Then, _after_ you've fought him at full strength, you can go back and get the mask and beat the crap out of him. It would make it that much more fulfilling
Ah MM oh how my 8 year old self feared you, oh how you taught me the meaning of life and death. To cherish the relationships you build with others, to always hold out hope despite the ever looming darkness. That regardless of how great the pain is, you CAN be HEALED. This game is my all time favorite Zelda game.
It boggles my mind that the solution of goron part: don't do anything. :D just press to roll. Don't try to turn, at all. My childhood has been wasted on numerous falls, FOR NO REASON
You can wear the FD mask for every boss, but really it only works with the first boss, now that I think about it. Second boss you have to run around a Goron, the third has an underwater part and the last needs the giant mask... so...
Twinmolds can be beaten as FDL because you can spam projectiles with the sword swings. Goht and Gyorg are more difficult because of their behavior and the camera angles, still not impossible, but the 3DS fights are also changed.
11:00 basically this entire Goron rolling section TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT THOUGH (if you know what I'm sayin) LMFAO NOOO😂😂☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ it's Deadly funny BE WARNED
the most hilarious thing to see happen is to watch arin throw a full tantrum towards majoras mask for 3 years about how much it sucks only to find out by the end of the game that infact, majoras mask is not that hard and its pretty good.
I can't watch the Majora's incarnation without thinking of Moscow Moscow I don't know the freaking words I don't know the freaking words hahaha hey if you get the reference congratulations
I stopped watching game grumps in like 2017. Just didnt seem like Arin was ever having a good time, just always super frustrated with the game hes playing with dan walking on eggshells. I also just didnt like the editing choices at all around the time. It's really heartwarming to see how the series and channel overall changed with Arin even fighting majora again because fierce deity was just too easy.

I think cause it's so built into the endgame that it is so good.

That’s why the moon cries
Arin: “Ooh Bombchu! I’m gonna let one off in celebration!”
Me, who knows how bullshit that puzzle is: “Ya better not….”
I still can’t believe Arin actually beat Twinmold, literally, within the last couple minutes on the game clock. What a legend
The ultimate Zelda puzzle “don’t do anything”

Really? Cuz after 3 fails manually that's the first thing I tried. Granted it was born of a mix of stubbornness and futility but still.
@@ryanstarkweather3625 I was really young, this was pre-geometry for me, and pretty frustrated because I had a vocal audience, but yea. I mean it's the only instance when you need to let go of the stick, idek if I knew you could do that
It's possible to use the joy stick to complete it. I just intensely hate the fact that I forced myself to learn how. It was just... pain.
I remember having trouble with it too. And I also missed all the bombchu attempts and didn’t know what else to do so I reset the N64.

It really is a shame. I wonder how or if they would translate it differently if it came out nowadays. What would even be a good solution?
Demon and Demon Hunter? Probably the closest translation we can get.

The Twinmold fight must have been mind blowing back in the day
everything about the giants, Frank, Bill, Frank and Frank, and their jiggling is great.
they should probably be dancers. Do you think the lady dancers would take these jiggly giants?
*Other Frank
Truly a tale to rival the 2 Steves
So glad you decided to re-fight without FD. From all Zelda titles, this gotta be one of my fav boss fights!
“You thought these were eyes, BUT THEY WERE NIPPLES!!!”
Danny is the kind of link that would say "EXCUUUUUUSE ME! Princess"
Arin failing at the goron roll segment is the perfect allegory of how he's his own worst enemy in video games.

THE FUCKING MOONWALK AT 41:36 IS GOLD, excellent editing man.
Those kids in the Moon that talk about friendship and trusting people and wearing a fake face all these lines Hit me hard as a kid
I've never seen episode 80, but my god, that is Arin's approach to video games in a nutshell
Wow I forgot just how trivial the Deity mask makes this fight lol
Fun Fact: Frank, Bill, Frank, and Other Frank are actually some of the oldest known practitioners of the Alligator Jigglin' Fever
The fact arin thought 'yea no' and 'no yea' were a Florida thing is insane. It's just a simplified version of the Canadian 'yea no yea' and 'no yea no'
It’s also Midwestern. I’m not sure it’s regional at all just because of how MANY regions it can be

9:22... That delivery, LOL
Who whines about it being too easy after putting in all the work to get the fierce deity mask?
Dan and Arin, apparently.
wouldnt really say it was whining as he just making a j o k e about it and then went back and redid the fight anyways.
The thing is they're doing a show, so they want to give people something entertaining to watch and a proper final boss fight.
I mean; they obviously used gameshark codes to cheat some items in.
its amazing as a reward but many people like myself wanna experience the last boss with some challenge

Arin continues to demonstrate that he is complete trash at video games and not particularly bright.
This game is bullshit, and he complains Sonic?
This game is amazing and everyone should complain about sonic... they're not exactly good xD
This game has more replayability than sonic.
The Giant names have "Brian (Frank, Steve...), Bill, Langley, and Big Bill" vibes. Man, Drakkhen was so long ago!
