Only the "you become wheelchair guy" is truly the bad ending. The one where Gehrman kills you isn't a bad ending because you did survive the night, but you also didn't achieve what basically everybody is trying to achieve in the setting. The slug ending, you do manage to achieve what everybody was trying to do--you ascended to become an elder creature. A proper one.

Eh, in my view, all you do is selfishly escape in the Mercy ending. Gehrman is still trapped and Yharnam has to endure another hunt. In the Successor ending, you at least free Gehrman from the dream, which he clearly suffers in, even if it costs you your freedom.
Ending A (Gehrman kills You): You survive the hunt but are left clueless and alone in the aftermath, nary a dream left of your time in the nightmare. Ending B (Eldritch Moon Creature takes you): Gehrman is dead and maybe free, but you are now his replacement cursed to lead other hunters into the hunt, just as Gehrman did. Ending C (You kill the Eldritch Moon Creature): You won. All foes, beasts, horrors and terrors are overcome and you are given the honor of becoming a new Eldritch abomination. Yet as a newborn you know so little, have so little in the grander stage, and will likely face your more experienced peers at some point. In essence, a Blessing and Curse.
You return to Yharnam, surviving through the night, no longer tied to the Hunter's Dream. You survived the hunt on that night but there will be another. You'll likely become a beast yourself or be killed by one and you don't get do-overs anymore. The only Great One that was proven to be hostile to the others was the Moon Presence. In the third ending you escape the horrors of Yharnam and become an awesome baby Cthulhu monster. That's really the best ending. You got out of that hellhole.
Did they ever read up on the lore and find out the details of the endings and the nightmares- the whole weird dream world/ pocket dimension/ reality warping thing that was going on and thus that these were lovecraftian beings rather than just aliens? And thus the endings when you fight Gehman are about freeing him from the dream, and ending the cycle of hunters/ acending to be a great one?
I love the fact that Gherman is the final boss. I wonder if that was the plan all along or if one day in a meeting a guy jumped up out of his chair and was like "I've got it! Let's make the guy in the wheelchair the final boss!" (Yes I know he's not the FINAL boss)

I know that Dan is an adult man and he can read up on it later but it still seems unfair to him that Arin never wants to delve into any story. or, ya know, maybe the game could just EXPLAIN its own lore? what good is lore if none of it is explored in the gameplay? having to read books and wiki articles to get the backstory on everything is dumb as shit and antithesis to what a video game should be. that's why arin writes it off.
@@AGR04 damn, garbage take. Not every game has to be Uncharted. The story of the game is absolutely not the focal point of the game, and its dealt with in an incredibly unique and fun way. Just because you don't get the game doesn't mean you have to shit on it.

Dan asks questions about the story and Arin skips everything about it and doesn't give Dan the chance to understand what's happening. It gives a really warped perspective on the game. The From Software games might not tell you every detail about the story but characters do talk to you and give context to some of the things you're doing. Arin just does not care about any kind of story or NPC ever and by skipping everything all the time, robs Dan of that enjoyment. It strikes me as sad because most of the time Dan is just watching Arin play and the story and dialogue would be the only thing he gets to experience directly. As it stands, the only thing Dan gets is watching Arin lose it and the graphics of the game.
If you submit then yeah sure, you survived, but you left everyone else in there, nothing accomplished. If you kill Gehrman without the cords, you just take his place. Nothing major has changed, but you've freed him from the nightmare at least. I have no idea what the fuck happens if you kill the Moon Presence, I don't know enough about this game
