I have owned this tent for some time now and its my work horse tent for all my weekly stealth / woodland camps. It is a solid tent and my channel is a testament of this. Never ever let me down. Yes it has fibre glass poles but the way they are angled really does add to the strength. If you break a fibre glass pole, it costs pennies to replace. The tent pegs I would swap for stronger ones and that is its only fault. Enjoy fella 🫡
@Ray-555 pennies in the sense costs very little to replace a pole. Amazon, eBay, or many other sites you can source fibre glass poles from. Easy to cut to size too. I even found tent poles and salvaged them for spares on a camp before.
Finally picked this tent up after seeing this review a while back. I'm doing my first camp with it at the weekend and looking very forward to the forgiving space 👌
I bought the OEX Jackal 3 for £65 from GoOutdoors which packs into 2 bags and weighs 2.7kg. Even better than that is its huge at approx 3m x 2m and very easy to erect using the colour coded alloy poles and alloy pegs. Loved your video especially the dog 🐕🦺🦮🐕
HI ALAN again just subscribe to your channel and watched the one we're you had to leave the woods, and you should go back, anyway love that you are buying new tents and things because I'm on the same path as you, literally I was going to buy a tent 1hour ago and stopped, because of your show, now I'm going to watch some more to see how it is going to go, hope it does work out well, ALAN,PS PLAYING CATCH UP, see you soon.🇬🇧🍻⛺💯👍
I’ve got an OEX Phox 2 which I absolutely love for wild camping it has plenty of room for my large dog and myself. Admittedly it’s only really got room sleeping plus all my gear, not really enough room to sit up in but as I wild camp I tend to set up late ish then take down early. My dog is called Archie too I didn’t know how he would react to being in a tent, he loves it as soon as it’s set up he’s desperate to get in. The reason I chose the Phoxx was a compromise mostly between price and weight.
My Archie is exactly the same!! If there’s a tent up, he’s in it or whining at its door. He loves it. I might have to reconsider the Phoxx 2 if you say it does indeed fit you + dog + gear.
Cant go wrong with the price. I used this tent a couple times and it always kept me dry, my only issue was the pack size and weight. Hope you enjoy the tent and have some good times in it.
I have the coyote 3 and the phoxx 2 v2. The phoxx 2 v2 is by far the best tent iv ever had. Iv had it out in some very extreme condition and it's never let me down. Its the only tent I trust up in the peaks
I’ve got a mate with the Phoxx 2v2 and it was tempting, but I’m just not sure there’d be enough ground space for me and my dog and the porch area looks too small to keep my stuff dry. Still - it’s one I might get anyway just to have a better package, lighter weight tent. This one is too big really!
its a great tent the Hyena. I used the phoxx 2 v2 for awhile..i know the phoxx 2 is lighter but this one suits me fine. I tend to hammock tent when hiking but the hyena is great for me and the wife and also for short journeys...the only down side is the poles arent aluminium but i dont tent on camping in high winds hahaha. great video sir. new subscriber here!
This tent is very similar to the Eurohike DLX2 which I have (altho I’ve just fractured one of the front poles) I use it with the phoxx II bag as those straps do help with attaching to the rucksack 👍🏼 using the Phoxx on the next camp as it’s been a while
After heading out with my pal who has a Phoxx (my most recent video) and I’ve gotta say after seeing how small it packs away and easy it sets up I think I have to get one. Only downside seems to be lack of living space if it rains but a tarp can fix that!
Nowt wrong with a 60 quid tent. A bit heavy for my liking but plenty of space for a dog. I would probably have set up the other way round (head at the door) in a tent like that but the light hook position is odd. Enjoy anyway.🙂 Happy camping.🙂
Have had one for a week and used it every night on North uist/Berneray/Harris/Lewis. Had a bit of rain over the week but today after 16 hours of solid rain its started to slightly leak water despite being pitched the tightest I have had it, A little windy at times and not had the slightest flap noise from it
That said, my tents normally get a regular coat of fabsil, Just wanted to see this one held out before needing it. And having seen some very strong coastal (atlantic) winds over the week, the fibre poles havent gave me the slightest bit of concern yet. For the money, absolute bargain.
Ah amazing to hear! Glad you got on well with it. Rained all night in the woods last night and not a single drop leaked which is amazing. Gonna have to see how it fares in stronger winds next month!
I looked at these , good tents. I went with a karrimor panther 3 though because i camp in sand dunes sometimes so i wasted a self supporting structure .
£60 for a tent and the experiences it'll give you is a steal. For comparison I've just spent..... Wait for it............. £300 on a Vango F10 Nexus UL Just think about that for a minute... £300 you could buy 5 of your £60 tents for that.
It is what it is a cheap noisy tent, I value my comfort through years of experience with various tents -buy the best you can afford , I have a Hilleberg tent pricey but light highly wind and waterproof and comfortable and no condensation on the inside like these cheap tents that last a few years before the stitching and bonding tape looses strength and they leak.
Make sure you guy it out in the sense you're effectivent pulling the poles away from each other. That will stop any sagging and prevent inner touching outer. Takes a few pitches to perfect but it soon becomes obvious. See so many people guying it out incorrect 🫡

Amen to the peg upgrade

@Ray-555 Also pole splints will get you out of trouble until you replace broken section 👍👍🫡

Can't wait to see how the tent holds up for you in the British weather. Don't forget to enjoy your time camping with your friend too!
Thank you :)

Can't believe you made it that far in the video 😆 Cheers though!
@@thomaslock97 haha, supporting the watch time bro 😎
Fantastic honest review on an entry tent 👍👍
Thank you! ❤️
This is just incredible! So much space for that money. I need to get rid of the Vango Orion!
It’s really decent! Although I bet the Orion doesn’t have the same QC issues this one has. Will have to get my hands on one to review at some point!

Head at the door end my friend 👍
@@thomaslock97 yeah I stuff my rucksack at the foot end my dog sleeps next to me and the vestibules are reasonably large

Yeah that’s probably my biggest issue in hindsight. It does noooot pack small and 3kg is a bit too much. Thank you!!

Cheers for the comment!! Definitely got my eyes on the Phoxx.
I'll be really interested to see how it performs in windy conditions and how you get on cooking in it. Looks great as a nice cheap tent
Well, it wasn't windy but it absolutely chucked it down this weekend. Video going up soon! Reckon I'll be picking up a Phoxx 1v2 for the big trip.

Can't fault it for £60!!

Yeah that’s a big problem with this; if the pegs come out you’re screwed! Cheers for the comment.
@@thomaslock97 no worries mate happy camping.
Hi mate good video love the tent
Thanks Andy!
Take the poles out the stuff sack and store separately then the inner and outer will compress down so much more.
Will give that a try, cheers!
Arent a quid and a pound the same thing ?
Indubitably
Quackers!
Quackery
The phoxx 1 isn’t much bigger than a hooped bivvy!! You can’t sit up, even rolling over my knees hit the roof

Yeah 100%. 100 trips in a £60 tent… then it’ll be worth the £300 I reckon. Will check out the Vango one!
All this camping talk on here has been making me want to camp for the first time ngl
That’s how it starts 👀

I’ll check that tent out, cheers for the recommendation!
For OEX the threads are a disgrace. Usually their quality control is much better.
Ah that’s a shame!! Maybe I just got a duff one then.
@@thomaslock97 yeah, I think so. It's a pity as they are generally really good for a, budget friendly company.
That is heavy for a "large bivvy"
Yeah 3kg is pretty crazy. You got any recommendations? :)
@thomaslock97 That's difficult..depends on "comfort" level acceptance
I've only had one OEX item... a pair of trousers.
The quality was .... shyte.
Never again.
Hahaha fair play
I wouldn’t recommend trousers for camping in 🤣

Better than just my undies!
6.6 pounds...no thanks
Yeah, that’s the big drawback…
Great but dood… cut your grass!
Our turf quality is so poor man, we have to let it grow out or it messes up. Persimmon sucks 😆

Yeah I guyed it between the first clip in the tent and when I actually got in and it made a huge difference! Cheers for the advice though :)
