Toyota’s goal was to sell the same amount of Supra’s each year. The upgrade in power year 2, the special editions, now the manual. All of this is to help accomplish consistent sale numbers each year.

Not sure that special editions help to be honest. As a potential buyer, these limited special editions really dampen excitement for shelling out money for less than special editions. Great for RUclips videos, not so much for actual buyers navigating the purchasing process with dealers.

It's the next tier price wise from the hot hatch segment where I landed (Veloster N DCT) but I'd be nothing but thrilled looking at a Supra in my driveway. I instantly wrote off the new Supra when I heard it was going to be automatic-only. Zero interest once I heard that. Just sounded like it was going after the 86/BRZ/Fast and Furious crowd with a bit more money to spend. But it also impacts branding and image. I ended up with a Miata RF, and there are plenty of middle age dudes driving them that I don't feel like I'm trying to recapture my teenage years. I'm not sure I could say the same in the Supra, even now with the manual. The die has been cast.
