In our latest episode, Tristán White and Sharon Crawford explore Tooting's two famous markets: Tooting Market and Broadway Market. They also check out some of the amazing street art and finish up at The Castle, a pub famous for its ties to rock'n'roll history, and which now has a strange white tent in the garden. We also uncover a scandal where Jamaican-owned businesses are being unfairly targeted by the police and Tooting Market's management.
We visit The Secret Bar, which is Portuguese-owned and a pint of Super Bock costs just £3.50. It is co-owned by the same people who run Mina's restaurant, opposite. We look for rare garage vinyl at Dr Vinyl, now sharing a space with the Candy Cane Lounge. We check out Ma'at African Art, where one piece could be worth half a million pounds, apparently. We almost buy a Sea Dragon at Market Pets. We check out Music Specialists, home to Tooting's reggae and ska scene. We try some amazing Brazilian meat at Açougue Tradição, clothes at Susan's Couture, and meet Divine and Grace. We wonder what impact the new Sky Market will have on Broadway Market. And we talk to the people running the Big London Bake behind the Castle Pub, which has nothing to do with the Great British Bake Off.
