  • Today, Tristán White and Sharon Crawford start their journey at Tooting Broadway station (SW17), discuss the King Edward VII statue as well as the famous Citizen Smith TV series that was filmed there, and then move on to the Grade I-listed Granada Cinema on Mitcham Road, now Buzz Bingo. They visit a street called Salvador and explain how it got its name, the Mixed Blessings Bakery which used to be the Tooting Music Centre, a studio where Bob Marley once signed the wall, discover the scene of an accident outside Broadway Carpets, and then visit the front gardens of Southcroft Road. A drink at the Ramble Inn, supposedly the home of London's finest pint of Guinness, a trip to Tooting's National Rail station, a visit to Gorringe Park and a chat with the owners of Janes Trains, which+ has been serving the model railway and car community for the past 41 years. They visit Polish supermarket Delight Wędlinka, 46 Longley Road (where we check out Sir Harry Lauder's blue plaque), a pub called The Manor, and then on to Recovery Street, Effort Street and St George's Hospital, where they discuss Boba Fett. The journey finishes at 143 Fountain Road, former home of jazz pioneer Sadie Crawford.

    FURTHER VIEWING:
The link to the pilot episode of Citizen Smith has been taken down since we made the episode on Balham. Sorry about that! You can of course buy the entire 4-series boxset from Amazon for £33.45 via www.amazon.co.uk/Citizen-Smit...
However, it's well worth checking eBay where there are people selling all four series for a low as £12.
We mention episode 2 of this series (in which we see Queen Victoria's daughter's sewing machine and visit Tooting Bec Lido). You can watch it here: • Balham ¦ (2/6) ¦ Love ...
