- Ever wondered, "is Mercedes-Benz still making the SL-Class?" Well, you wouldn't be alone! If you asked me a couple years ago, I was certain that an SL, similar to this 2019 AMG SL63, would be the last of a dying breed. LONG LIVE THE KING!
But alas, I was wrong, and the SL lives on... What had died in its place? The S-Class coupe and convertible, which will be cease production once again after the 2021 model year.
Is the SL for everyone? Nope, it caters to a 'specific clientele' (wink wink) -- and I believe the forthcoming SL will embody that despite likely sharing a platform with the much more dynamically capable and bespoke AMG product: the AMG GT!
You want a raw performance car, you get the GT, you want a capable drop-top roadster... the SL!

You definitely nailed it calling it a GT. This thing is a luxury cruiser. It's nothing like a 911 at all. The Z4 you mentioned has (had) a competitor in the SLK, which is far more of a sports car than the SL. It's okay for the SL to be heavy and muscle-car like. It's bipolar. It's luxury with a touch of sport. The AMG GT is sport with a touch of luxury. Though, as an SL63 owner (and former SLK owner), I was as surprised as everyone else that they launched a new SL.

Great video bro, I’m 26 and the sl63 is my favourite car haha I’m defo in the minority with that though. The interior is well dated but still looks so classy to me, you just don’t get interiors made to that quality anymore. The new one will have a soft top and probably a digital dash unfortunately. Heard there will be a 73 hybrid beast though. Check out my video on the r230 sl350 and let me know if you’d own one.

I'm actually excited to see the new SL since it's based on the same platform as the GT... I also don't mind the 73 hybrid engine, it's the 63 hybrid 4-cylinder I'm a little more concerned of right now

Why do you need that broken engine sound ? sound is incredible if completely muffled and just shows the smooth response off gas intake. Louder is not better it is just annoying and makes it difficult to differentiate precise engineering from crappy backyard workshop ‚tuning‘
Haha I mean I kinda see what you're saying with just pure "noise" ... I'm thinking Camaro with straight pipes. But, I was referring to the slightly louder and more pronounced sound of an E63 or AMG GT... equally "precise" but more audibly pleasurable 😊
@@Reoniz "audibly measurable" - I wish would understand - it's just embarrassingly douche bag loud - in the 70s a 450SEL 6.9 sounded great and smooth an M120 in the 90 was a little louder but incredible orchestral sound - now a AMG GT is designed to scream without message - sad case of infantility .. but that's just my taste. I wish the GT or SLS would had a high-performance inline 6 to demo what's possible with such a design and engineering. V8 are obsolete - weight is key .. look at F1 ..

There is a ton of features which are unique to the sl especially the 63 and you have mention none of!!!!!
You should perhaps study a little bit better regarding that specific car rather than present a oversight review.
