- The Loud Exhaust of the UK/EU Specification SL 63 is to die for! Welcome back to RBR guys and to the #mercedesAMG saviour, our new #SL, still providing us #AMG nut cases the emotion we thrive on. Last time the rain of California ruined half the driving experience, but this time we are in Nice in France, and it’s the perfect weather to sample both the sunshine and some exhaust noise!
But it’s not just about noise, the new SL is a whole new vehicle created by AMG alone just like the SLS and GT. But, not one single component is shared with the previous SL or GT Roadster. Instead it has a whole new body shell which uses intelligent material composition of aluminium, steel, magnesium and fibre for rigidity. In typical modern AMG fashion much is done for rigidity such as aluminium panels on the bottom of the body, and struts on the front and rear. The result is a more rigid car than the AMG GT roadster.
BUT you also have a car with MBUX, the new screen from the S Class and a tonne of luxury comfort, even massaging seats and HUD - much like the S63 coupe and Cabriolet of the past! Pair all that to a new 2+2 layout and it stands to be an epic car.
The V8 bi turbo from the AMG GT returns, the SL 63 has 577BHP and a 0-60 of 3.6 seconds thanks to the fully variable 4Matic plus and the 9 speed MCT wet clutch from the E63. We’ll check out the ride, as the SL 63 gets adaptive ride control suspension, and rear axle steering up to 2.5 degrees PLUS limited slip differential as standard.
The roof returns to fabric top like the 300SL, so it now gets a lighter z-fold roof with three layer with noise insulation and a heated rear screen - the cherry on top is that it’s 21kg lighter than SL hard top vario! We will see how quiet it is in the interior today.
Today we’re gonna see what the car drives like with the roof on and off to compare, launch control it, and check out the all important EU and UK spec exhaust system!
It’s AMG’s most important car going forward, I’ve myself also ordered an SL55, and I’ll tell you why I picked this in the video!
Up next on on RBR is the new Audi RS3 review and MUCH MUCH More!! Subscribe to support us and see them first. :)

Just thinkng about how epic the C63 would have been with this engine + new tech...
If only 😰
RIP C63
They are hoping to sell more SL's as now if you want a V-8 coupe you will need to get an SL instead of what people usually did which was get a C 63 coupe
@@Mudmchemba The more v8s they sell, the harder it is for Mercedes to stay compliant with the regulations. So makes more sense (for Mercedes) to make fewer of them at a higher price point.
The question is who propagates these emission laws??? This is all BS the same people that make these cars are the same people who advocate for these laws by technically brainwashing the average mind, forcing the consumers to a direction of their desire to reap profits..
That sound for a 2022 car is very nice to hear. Sounds like the old AMGs
Only thanks to a trickery. MB was forced to muffle down its engines because of the EU regulations that limit the noise of engines. The original GTR was the last car before the change.
Love this car, looks and sounds amazing
The looks of this car is on another level. What a beauty
The glee at hearing the pops and bang's is just natural.
Sounds savage 🤍🔥🤍🔥🤍
It’s such a gorgeous car, for every angle 😍🔥
Majestic monster !!
Sweet ride
Roof up is closed cabin - roof down open I thought 🤔😀 great video 👍
Hi Raz! Great Video! The one in LA just didn’t feel complete, thank you for this one.Just wanted to know how this vehicle compares to a Bentley CGT , is it more dynamic or on par with the Bentley ?
"AMG heaven" perfect interpretation. 👌🏼
My word that exhaust note...the depth of that rumble...pure AMG... incredible...
Beautiful machine 🙏
Now that is a lovely shape I have to say
New sub ! Liked 🙏😀🚀👍❤️
God it's beautiful. I really appreciate the way you do your videos and all the geeky details you add. If you get one can you take me out in it please? 😬🤞
This car sounds amazing, getting the W205 C63s pre-facelift vibes. Any idea how can it sound twice as good as the facelift W205 C63s, considering both have OPF?
Sounds great for an OPF V8 👍🔥
I need to see it in person because design wise I'm not all the way sold.
California has a decibel restriction on exhausts, so that might explain why they didn’t sound as good in LA.
the EU has restrictions on everything :D
EU is much stricter than LA, so unlikely. US models are always louder than EU models, I guess the press cars had filters that production versions don’t
The European Socialist Union hates joy.
Just noticed this SL has rear seats n not just a bench. Zero rear leg room still I’m sure, but it’s an interesting addition
Sadly, I still love the SL AMG r230, timeless design, cozier cabin.
Good that your talking about the non top spec model not everyone can get the top spec model.
Looks way nicer than the M8 convertible.
I knew they were gonna make a comeback!!!
I love it!!! Yes. Not a direct competitor to the Porsche 911, but it's a proper grand tourer in my opinion. Its a German muscle. Fun car. I could care less about the 0-62mph time.
I hope that the new s63 will sound like this
Sounds as quiet as any other AMG V8 with a particulate filter not loud at all.
Does anyone know when the mercedes a class hatchback electric is coming out ?
I think manufacturers are starting to find ways around the OPF to limit the sound deadening as much as possible. The engine sounds still sound quite muffled, but the pops and bangs are there now
you mean are there "for now".
Is there no wind deflector?
This engine with s63💪🏿😁
Great video! How's the visibility out the back with the top closed?
This vs your 992 GTS? Which is the better buy?
Such a shame that it has these screens everywhere which are gonna get outdated in 3 years :/ I would totally have one if it had analogue controls and gauges
We need more elaboration between the amg gt convertible, gtc convertible, gtr roadster, and the new sl.
How many are you?
I would get the SL55 over the SL63. Not every car has to be full-blown performance spec, and the trade off is comfort. I’d rather trade off the extra HP for more comfort in this type of luxury car.
So the 55 is not full blown perfomance
@@duffydon1741 The SL55 = 469 HP/516 TQ; SL63 = 577 HP/590 TQ plus a stiffer suspension.
@@ohroonoko is it engine capacity or the noise it makes?
Dont get the point of two AMGs. Replace the 55 with a properly comfortable and more luxorious 550 instead without all the performance crap. Like its always been. Many people prefer more of a cruiser instead of stiff suspension and racing seats. Most people are never going to take it to the track..
The SL43 is enough and you get all the comfort amd even less €€€ to throw
The roof DOWN means UP in the UK? :D
I don't get it, how did they get it to sound like this with OPF/noise regs? Doesn't make sense lol.
I'm glad to see the SL is given the proper attention it deserves
Do you think there will be a SL 73?
Great car!
Hot AF
If it had a hard top instead I'd totally consider this over a Portofino
Fantastic
Gorgeous motor
When are you going to do the video with Chris Harris driving YOUR Black Series?
Lovely car just wish that rear end was a bit more defined. Love lots of the details though.
I own a 2013 R231 SL63. In December last year, I had it straight piped using the Weistec kit. With a conservative tune, the car now makes 700bhp and 1150Nm at 1600 rpm!!
However, I never get to use that kind of power and torque, and the car gets too much attention (both positive and negative). I think I will revert to the stock exhaust and the 585bhp/900Nm tune.
What negative attention?
@@Ricocase you'd be surprised how many people hate loud cars.
You can tell that Merc let AMG go town with this new generation of vehicles
I think a SL 63 Black Series is returning soon...
Hoping to see a head to head between the SL63 and the "base" 911 Turbo
Hoping to get a response from RBR
Have you ever driven a straight pipe AMG with the 4.0 v8? I would like to see your reaction to that it sounds completely different to the stock exhaust
Finally a nice sounding AMG
What rock have you been living under, amg have always sounded nice
Sarcasm?
@@W0ULDY0ULIKE Definitely a different rock than yours as AMG's of recent have been getting more and more muted in the European market atleast
Okocube Idk where u live but i hear amgs frequently and the new ones r really muted
Love it! I was considering a Porsche 911, but I think I'll take this new SL instead. It looks like a 911 which I love!
Love the car and the language for AMG - HOWEVER, this should translate more for the rest of the AMG segment. Why stop the E63 as a V8?!? WHY C63 4 cylinder turbo?!? What does this mean for all the other cars? Roken emphasizes this all the time- keep AMG the way it is!!!
I get it - now the consumer is going to be more enticed to spend DOUBLE what they originally paid for an SL ( old price tag ~118k - 130k USD) just because it’s a rumbling violent v8 engine - SMH
Mercedes’ AMG - please be better and KEEP THIS LANGUAGE FOR ALL MODELS
Consumers who are steadfast to this brand want to keep this 8 cylinder in all their models
As always- thank you Roken for another great review
#ExhaustOnOrElse
Not just a Mercedes decision, but one driven by regulations
Raz we need an update on your other cars😢 the 911 gts..more videos please black series etc
Coming soon! 🙏
This style grew on me so fast!
Cannot believe the price in the U.K.
£170,000 for the 63 .
Pops and bangs? fine on a Fiesta ST perhaps but not on an SL surely! Also, for me a switch for the roof would have been a nice touch.
Miss the old MB that made cars for grown ups.
@@martinsv9183 sl 43 / maybach sl that's coming is for u i guess
This is good news, hopefully the next AMG GT will sound this good, if not better 🔥👍
You should do a full car collection video
Compared to old ones this sound a shame you know that
How would you compare it to the AMG GT C roadster?
Would be nice to see side by side between this and the GTC Roadster
SL with back seats and headrests kinda werid or just me ?
Still hate a lot of things still need to access by screen
SL 55/63 vs Bentley GTC?
60kmh for the roof, that's wild!
I'm torn... SL63 or AMG GTS 🤔
You have to use the touchscreen to put the roof up or down!!! 🤦🏽♂️
Seems like no else one is shocked but us. It’s almost like RBR never drove the iconic SL’s from the 90’s and 2000’s.
You can double tap the button too.
Very nice but I'll still buy a 911
VW.
Is it bad if I buy the SL 53 instead of SL 63?
Not at all.
Hint: Press the Roof-Button on the Button-Bar below the screen once. Then press and hold the Roof-Button below the screen the second time. Now, wait for the magic to happen. The roof will open or close. That depends on which state the Roof is at. That is way more easy than sliding and holding the bar on the screen to the left or right.
Last of the v8s 😍😍
So are they doing a c63 final edition? I'm just hearing about the 4cyl engine. No final 😢
They do a E63s final edition
They did in uk
Roof down usually means the roof is open i.e. the roof is down. Roof up means the roof is closed i.e. the roof is in the up position. You need to get the basics right
That touchscreen must be annoying to use with glare from the sun
£180,000.00???!! Jeez, my S63 Coupe was £140k with everything on minus the ceramics. That’s a ridiculous price for a smaller car with bucket seats in the back & a soft top. Oh well, that was my intended upgrade path, I guess I won’t be getting one after all 😕
It's a freaking SL 63. The billionaire car. A C63 is nowhere near this. The C63 is like the cheapest feeling V8 AMG. G63/S63/SL63 are totally at another level.
Portland, JAMAICA in The Building !!!!!!!
No offense but during this entire video I just wanted to see more of the car and much much less of you in the cabin talking 😉
Raz ''pops n' bangs".
That's what happens when one designs an exhaust/engine combination, with European noise and emissions regulations in mind. Lovely car, I'm more intrigued by the new C63 to be honest, I think we all are.
OMG!
Would sound much better without the cracks & pops.
Lovely car all round BUT not a fan of the poorly integrated tablet screen and the terrible roof opening procedure, ie having to go into the menu and hold swipe/ hold your finger to one side.
I wish it had the interior the same as E63 cuz I hate this big screen, it ruins for me this such nice car!
Leased a brand new 2020 amg gtc roadster 2/2021. On the drive home got first error message and noticed busted subwoofer. After that engine lights. Then engine lights again. Then 4 (!!!) simultaneous error messages. Multiple knocking sounds. Overall, $189k car has been in the shop with 10 different issues for about 70 days. Customer service from MBUSA is truly disgusting. Ignoring multiple calls and messages and multiple emails. Asked them multiple times to take car back and they refused. Have to go thru lemon process to get rid off this piece of junk. Never offered apology or any sort of mediation for the experience. How in the world they are allowed to sell products they cannot support is beyond me.
The last of a dying breed😔
Please like if this colour is just as good as the Nardau Gray (of RS3 fame).
£180k? Why would you pick this over a Ferrari Portofino M or a Roma?
Why? Because those are nothing more than overpriced FIAT. Good looking, go fast pieces of shit ultimately. This car is a combination of good looking, fast, luxurious and reliable. Plus it much more comfy than any of that Italian junk.
This car needs a hardtop version
knowing africa we’re probably only getting the first batch of cars in 2024
Ipad in the middle looks so stuck on . will become old hat very soon!
No it won't. And you can't afford this car anyways so why so worried about it?
That’s loud?
Loud enough. Any louder and it's just trashy.
@@jackmarston2515 disagree. Not only is it not loud enough but it also sounds rather pathetic.
Couldn't put up with that god awful screen just plonked on the console. What were MB thinking...
SL63 is $212k in Canada. No other variant is available. I'll stick with my C8 Corvette at half the price and a naturally aspirated V8. The SL will be a total fail in Canada, and given the cold shoulder EVO magazine gave it during their car of the year review, I think it might be a fail globally. I truly wanted to like this car, but It's just too expensive and there are way better cars at this price.
Better cars like what? What makes them better? Sounds to me like you're just too mad. Have fun in your chevy before it breaks down on you.
@@jackmarston2515 What makes them better. Let me count the ways. I live in Canada. I draw a crowd everywhere I go with my C8. It's still rare up here. I tell people I was thinking of a Mercedes, and everyone I say that to says, my C8 is waaaay cooler than any Merc. I drive by my local school regularly. Kids line up during recess and ask me to rev the engine. Every time. It's a 6.2 NA V8, a V8 that AMG once had and dumped. It's 0-60 is incredible and the way it handles is impeccable given it's Ferrari 458 mid-engine layout. It's a convertible and when people see that folding hard top in action, they call it a transformer. I paid exactly $130 CAD for the car which includes all taxes and full body PPF. Half the price of a well optioned SL before tax and before PPF or anything else. Dude, I wished I had the SL at one point, but now absolutely no regrets on getting the C8. And regarding break downs, well sir, I've driven my V8 for 2.5 years, and even in snow storms and -30 degree winters. It has winter tires and snow mode. With all the weight in the rear, traction is as good as my Volvo XC90. No problems at all and no breakdowns (knock wood) in 40,000 km's. Dude, yes I'm mad. I'm mad that apparently only GM and Lotus can make cars like this at great a price point. Shouldn't you be too??
The problem i have with very expensive Mercedes are the fact that they don't look much different from £25k Mercedes. In normal people's untrained eyes, they are all the same or similar cars.
You shouldn’t buy cars based on what other people will think, buy it for yourself and your own enjoyment
It's the same with BMW and Audi and that's the point of the car.
Are you buying the car for yourself or some plebs?
Now you're just being ridiculous.
Roof DOWN confused...
