    I have to disappoint you but the car you tested had NO ceramic brakes. LOL Just the standard steel brake...with yellow calipers (they come standard with the SL63). The ceramic brakes have golden calipers. Speaking of the handling of the car: It is actually pretty close to the 991.2 Carrera GTS Convertible I owned. It feels lighter than it is (the SL63) and due to the sophisticated chassis and rear wheel steering, it feels pretty nimble. The steering is almost as good as the one in the 911, no kidding. AMG made a great new SL but unfortunately, they seem to have made a mistake: The typical SL customer won't like this car because it is too sporty and the typical sportscar driver won't get it because he/she thinks that the SL is still that GT car for "old men". The price tag of the SL63 is insane, thank god REAL WORLD prices started to drop to a more reasonable level.

      Ahh well spotted! They were super powerful! So guess the ceramics are not needed. You are right about the image tho, it’s an older persons car. Plus the Porsche badge has a much bigger appeal. To me at least. The V8 sounded gorgeous tho!

      I was cross shopping 992 GTS convertible vs SL63. Fully custom GTS was $186k in US. SL $204k fully loaded with custom manufaktur interior but massive discounts & has good lease. However, what made me choose SL is the dealership experience and long wait for GTS. The Porsche dealership here made me feel like a beggar or some dumb c*n1 who "needs to beg" to buy a car with his own money. F that .. Not sure where you are from but Porsche dealership here are horrible. That being said, the Porsche 992 GTS is superior in driving mechanics & on track.

    So.... I am fortunate enough to own both an older 911 Turbo and the new SL 63 AMG. I am in my 60's. I love Porsche's and also have a Taycan Turbo which I will never part with. But.....truth be told, the SL and the 911 are two very different cars. As a younger man I would take the Porsche all day long over the MB. But, after 40+ years of driving, I am now experienced to know that neither of these cars will come within a lightyear of being able to be driven to their potential. Ain't happening on American roads. And, even with spirited,(and a little illegal) driving, they both handle and accelerate at the upper limits of what is sanely possible. The MB is a far superior cruiser and far more long distance comfortable - full stop. Not an opinion, a fact, with copious sound metering and testing. That all said, for me at this point in my life, it is the MB over the Porsche - for ride comfort, build quality, tech, reliability and costs of ownership - MB over Porsche. Resale is higher in the Porsche - but so is the Porsche Turbo MSRP - by over $50K! And over the lifetime of the car, MB maintenance is LESS THAN Porsche. Porsche does not offer pre-paid maintenance as MB does, which is an absolute steal for those who keep their cars for years. MB's are not cheap to maintain, but at least you can control future maintenance costs to a degree. Both great cars, only one is a GT (SL 63 AMG), and the other, which is billed as an everyday driver but is really a high performance supercar (Porsche 911 GTS or Turbo). The MB is the clear choice for mature discerning drivers who want impressive performance and infrequent trips to the chiropractor.

    Love the car but the bonnet is too long for my liking, what’s the view like and how much of the bonnet can you see? Can you see the end??
    On a 911 you can see the front wings which gives you a good idea where it finishes.

    Not agreeing that he can't compare this to a a 911. They are both GT cars with four seats and two doors. Porsche sports car is the Boxter.

    Great vid...but you don't have to gp hack too many iterations to find 2+2 - I do wish reviewers would stop saying this is something new and instead point out it is a return to the old sl package

    Joe, how tall are you? I'm interested in this model, and I'm quite tall myself, so I'm wondering if I'll fit in it with the roof both down and up?

  • @MrRoyck10

    Nice review Joe, nobody would rightly sell their Porsche to buy this SL63, apart from the V8 engine it’s just another Merc it does not evoke emotions like Porsche.

      lol.. you clearly have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. But most people don’t and have never owned both to compare.

      @MrRoyck10 Год назад

      @@rkane2643 Dreaming of owning apart, most Porsche owners will not sell their car to buy this Mercedes SL. Those who actually own Porsche know, this a simple fact, don’t misconstrue this to mean that the Merc is not good.

    Beautiful car for sure! Call me a very petty man, but nothing puts me off of Mercs more than that ridiculous dinner-plate sized emblem on the front grill. And the one on the steering wheel is just as bad. Why can't Merc just let their cars do their talking and get rid of the awful emblems? I would be embarrassed to drive one of these. Good review though, Joe! But give me a 911 any day!

      You can order aftermarket grill for as little as €300 buddy, even customise it for your liking 😊 but bottom line is can you even afford to buy this car?😂

      Really? I love the interior and exterior styling. Subtle but good quality. I mean it’s a bit glittery compared to a Porsche but still nice.
