  • This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 63 pure luxury roadster. For almost 70 years, the Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster has excited Mercedes-Benz customers around the world. Now this Roadster has an all-NEW look!
The Mercedes Benz AMG SL 63 is sportier, more luxurious, it has improved technology and Mercedes-Benz returns to the classic soft top which reduces the weight by 46 pounds from the previous model’s metal roof. It now offers a lower centre of gravity which has a more positive affect on driving dynamics and handling making it a great daily driver. Did I mention how incredibly fun it is? The new SL combines the sporty genes of the original SL with the driving performance typical of an AMG model.
There’s also the addition of two rear seats with fixed backrests, they are best suited for small children or you can just use them for extra storage which I really like.
The handcrafted Mercedes Benz AMG 4L V8 biturbo with a 9-speed automatic transmission produces 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque and for the very first time, standard AWD.
The Roadster goes 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
The Mercedes Benz AMG SL 63 has an elegant and modern interior with Nappa leather upholstery in a variety of rich looking colours like sienna brown, sage green or red pepper. It includes, a topstitched dash, door and console trim, different trim accents like high gloss black, carbon fibre and silver or dark shadow, 64-colour ambient lighting and AMG illuminated door sills and carpet. The 11.9” touchscreen is easy to use and access, it comes standard with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and I love how everything is laid out in this model.
If you have the top down on a cooler day, AirScarf will come in handy. The warm air flows into the passenger compartment from air outlets in the head restraints and wraps around the head and neck area of the driver and front passenger like a scarf. How clever!
The Mercedes Benz AMG SL 63 Roadster is not inexpensive, it starts at $215,000 CAD/$178,100 USD
USD. If you can afford one, you’ve got one sweet ride.
Mercedes-Benz did a great job redesigning this Roadster. It looks sportier and sexier than ever before, it has updated technology, the soft top is back and now it comes with two small rear seats which are best for small children or you can just use them for extra storage which I did.
The Mercedes Benz AMG SL 63 handles incredibly well, not only is it engaging to drive but it’s also very comfortable making it a great daily driver. You will find it really eats up those imperfections in the road.
The handcrafted Mercedes Benz AMG 4L V8 biturbo sounds incredible and the 9-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and quickly. The V8 produces 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque and for the very first time, standard AWD.
The Roadster goes 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
    Priced at $215,000 CAD/$178,100 USD.

V8 is never a step backwards. It is not just the performance. It is the combination of everything with performance and the AMG V8 sound. Never backwards. Love V8.

    • @welldoctor
      @welldoctor 11 месяцев назад +2

Not only that, but the V-8 will out last the battery system in that electric car, and won’t just burst into flames for no reason (never to be put out). When the battery eventually wears out you basically buy a new car when you have to replace it. Why do you think there are hardly any used electric cars in the market. Nobody wants a car with a short life shelf of a used battery system. If you talk to a dealer, they can ‘t give them away. they go to a scrap yard and then you have to deal with the environmental mess that is disposing of the hazardous batteries. Nobody talks about that because they belive fossil fuels are evil. Guess what, most of any car you buy is made of petroleum products (plastics, fiberglass, tires, grease for the bearings in the motors, the coatings for the wires used in the electrical system. If you think a V-8 is a step backward, a true step backward would be to walk away from fossil fuels because we will all be back in covered wagons with wooden wheels.

In my state, you have to have a front plate if you have the hardware mounted for it but if not, they will allow you not to have it. However, the DMV will charge you an extra $100 for the privilege of not having a front plate. 👎 But for cars like this, it’s probably worth it.

The giant center screen stuck there like an iPad, and the elimination of buttons and switches, is one of the poorest design choices of modern vehicle manufacturers. I swore to never buy a car with that BS, but I may not have a choice in the future. I hate it when they cram bad ideas down our throats. Piano black plastic is another one.

Stunning! I’m a huge SL fan. In fact, I almost traded my Carrera for an SL55 AMG + a few grand. It was a motorcar that I drove back and forth from Ottawa (Aylmer QC) to Toronto about a half a dozen times. I’ve always loved Grand Tourers, but they (SLs) regularly require a little more maintenance expenses $$$ that I simply cannot afford (that folding top, those expensive auto drying brakes, tyres (rears), AMG/MB parts prices, mileage etc.). For example, top on my 911 is two handles and I flip It over my head… 5-10 seconds?… the SL has so many motors and crazy wiring everywhere, very limited luggage space and, albeit breathtaking to watch… the top takes (an exaggerated)… forever to put up/down. I love this GT car and if I had a ton of money… maybe. But the SL over the BMW M850i?… I’m not so sure. Thanks for the video.

If I remember correctly, all "2-seat" Mercedes SL, except for the original 1957-1963 300SL convertible, had room for an optional transverse or forward facing rear seat. There was an optional transverse rear seat for the 1956 190SL that I drove as a teenager and a similar transverse rear seat available for the succeeding 230/250/280SL. The rear seat's backrest was behind the front passenger seat and a floor panel behind the driver seat could be removed to create a shallow footwell. I had hoped that I would like the new AMG SL enough to buy one for my "second childhood" but having only a soft top simply will not do Removeable hardtops were options for all SL that had non-retractable hardtops. The removable hardtop for my 190SL turned it to a pretty cozy winter car and it was great fun to drive the car in snow.

I must admit I absolutely detest these large screens. They almost always look like last minute add-ons. Why can’t they look as though they were designed to be there? The entire idea tells me that they got the idea of someone wanting to slot an iPad in or onto the dash. Trashes the rest of the overall design.

I do like the new exterior styling however I also agree about the huge screen being an eyesore and dominating the interior; it will also really date the interior within not too long. There's a reason why Bugatti kept screens to a minimum in the Chiron. The cupholders and cubby situation in the centre console looks a bit cheap and uncouth as well. Definitely not winning any concours d'élégance shows in 30 years with those faux pas.

I hope there's a video of Zack riding in the back seat while Andrea is flooring it.

Should’ve sat in the back with the top on to give us a real perspective.

I watch almost every video you put out. But for the first time you almost got a thumbs down because you suggested that a V8 is behind the times!! How dare you I say, how dare you!!
I said that all in jest.... Kinda... Love the channel. Loyal viewer.

It's a great lovely car . . .Im driving MBs since 45 years ,this one is the best . . .but Mercedes always has 80% the same interiors dark gray leather . . . and its not easy to get the more interesting colors . . . .they should compare the Chines autoindustrie with the most beautiful interiors . . albeit saying this I have 2 Mercs a 500 S and a GT with those boring dark gray interiors
.. but the new SL is a most beautifull Car . . .

I d rather opt for the M256 inline 6 if it were available and it would be reminiscent to the original first ever classy SL. MB should follow Porsche philosophy to stick with a six cylinder and scale it accordingly..

Pity there isn't a place for the front license plate - the location on the review vehicle looks pretty bad.

The real sound of a roaring V8 is hard to beat - and I think it's a clear handicap of electrical cars that their sound is so bland..

Bring plenty of cash down under. A$375,000 plus options and on road taxes. Oh boy.
