🥰 Very interesting alternate ending...
· Far from the Madding Crowd invites tough comparisons to Thomas Hardy's classic novel -- and its previous adaptation -- but stands on its own thanks to strong direction and a talented cast :
- Matthias Schoenaerts as Gabriel
- Carey Mulligan as Bathsheba Everdene
- Michael Sheen as William
Tom Sturridge as Sergeant Troy
Cast & Crew:
William Boldwood
Frank Troy
Juno Temple
Fanny Robin
Jessica Barden
► Bathsheba Everdene attempts to run an estate without the social benefits of marriage in this Thomas Hardy adaptation. Director Thomas Vinterberg may have been well aware that late nineteenth century feminism may seem passe to a modern audience, so he spends the majority of this adaptation focusing solely on character development, particularly that of Bathsheba and Gabriel. As a result, the novel's criticisms of late Victorian society take a back seat to the rather pedestrian romance, which unfolds predictably. Carey Mulligan is lovely and strong, but there's too much modern independence in her performance; we don't doubt for a moment that she has the capability of running the estate, yet for the original Bathsheba, this may have been a matter of some suspense. Matthias Schoenaerts is dreamy, and that's about all that can be said for his performance. Overall, Far from the Madding Crowd is a competent adaptation of one of a great author's lesser novels.

Those scenes were so important for the comprehension of the characters’ emotions 🥺 and they were in the book so why were they removed 😭
I found the film and bought the DVD in 2020 to see the Special Features that included these deleted scenes. It's still worth it to buy the DVD (Blu-Ray) because this video edited the deleted scenes themselves!! The first deleted scene during which she comes to his rescue, is one that happens BEFORE he gives her the lamb and (rather prematurely) proposes marriage. In the film there's a beautiful early evening scene in which she rides up to the top of a hill. It's a stunning scene with the colors in the sky. There she pauses to take it all in. In the film they cut to the next scene, but in the deleted scene on the DVD, she hears Gabriel's dogs barking below and she realizes something is wrong and rides down to his cabin. When she arrives she begins banging on the door. You can see why he was so impressed with her he'd want to marry her after that! ☺
Yes it makes sense now why he went to propose for marriage.
@@Jas-vp4fd Thanks for responding! I'm glad you agree. Much as I love the film, without that scene, his marriage proposal struck me as a very odd thing to do at that point in the story.
Oh thank you! I’m going to find the blu ray, I just watched this movie 🍿 2 days in a row this week and will probably watch it again now. I do love the part in the end when she say, “wasn’t I your first sweetheart?” 😭
@@Jujudeze22 You're most welcome! I think I'm due for a re-watch myself!! Enjoy!
Defo worth a re watch ❤ Thanks for this explanation, it all makes sense now
I wish they kept that scene! It’s such an important scene cause that’s what started their friendship when Bathesheba saved Gabriel’s life
This is why reading the book is a good idea as they miss so much out when making a film.
Bring those deleted scenes back, movie! Matthias .. what a man!
oh yes, what a man truly…
Omg thank you so much for the hut scene, it makes so much sense now why he went to propose her for marriage. Its good to see they got blessings from all for their marriage
Welcome 😊
I’ve only just discovered this film and it’s beautiful. Carey Mulligan and Matthais Schoenaerts are magical together.
One can't help falling in love with Matthias Schoenaerts... In this movie..
I wondered how Farmer Oak knew about Bathsheba flirting with Mr Boldwood - this deleted scene shows that Oak wasn't being a creepy psycho stalker & that Boldwood came to him & shared the information
just recently discovered this film. such a gem. loved every minute of it. gabriel is just too perfect.
the first scene... bro fell in love 😭
i never knew there's deleted scenes and alternate ending.
actually the wedding scene fit enough to put in between credit scene.
i wish there's a director cut edition
BAD DECISION TO DELETE THESE SCENES!!
I did not khow about this scenes. Just perfect 😢❤
noooooooo why would they delete these omg THE WEDDING
yeah i feel that, actually the wedding scene fit enough to put in between credit scene.
i wish there's a director cut edition
I love this ending better!
Off topic of this video - but the scene in the film where Sgt Troy asks his wife for £20 = £2,983.44 = $3,817.06 in 2024 in case any other nerd wondered
I really like this ending. It feels complete ❤😊
Where did you get all these hidden gems? Well thanks indeed 🙏🏻
The only scene I wouldn’t keep would be Troy throwing the coins out the window, unless they were going to do a previous scene with Boldwood offering the coins to motivate him to marry Fanny like in the 1967 film. Other than that, these were great scenes.
I highly suggest watching the original 1967 version. I think both versions are great, but the original is the best
I saw the original when it came out (1967) and on tv recently. I much prefer this version; Matthias' Gabriel Oak is so fanciable! I'd say yes in a heartbeat 💓
@lesleyairey6633 I agree. Also the acting in the old one is strange to me
I never saw these scenes before? What happened?
Made sense!
Audio is very low😢
Perfect🥹😍
