You know Luke you’re laughing with the ambient noise, but I use it all the time on my iPhone when I study! It really gets me in the zone to focus haha. But I get why it seems such a weird feature
The photo search feature (like looking for a car, text etc) already existed within the photo app itself, but it's getting better with every release and putting it in spotlight is awesome.
Timer + Background Noise? Someone is taking notes on all these studying videos on RUclips and incorporating them into our daily work while using the Mac. Kudos!
So far I am loving the stage manager. As someone who uses external mouse and don't use much keyboard shortcuts, I find stage manager extremely convenient as an alternative to mission control, and it is beautiful. Animations are really smooth. The settings app is just awesome now. I feel like I am using an iPhone.
The one thing I dislike about stage manager is that is does not show a red notification counter in messages or whatsapp. This is only shown in the dock menu.
the best thing about stage manager is to be able to alt+tab to a combination of windows. Eg alt+tab to get excel, calculator, alt+tab to VS code and a chrome window etc
My favorite "actually useful and tiny hidden feature" is that in Time Machine, there is actually an option to set the frequency of backups. For years now it just has been the default every hour, which is overkill for my needs since Time Machine is my third/fourth level of backups, so being able to set it to Once a Day or Once a Week is lovely! (and yes I know there were apps, or command line garbage to do that, but having it in the UI is the correct choice.)
Ventura is the most useless os ever was released by Apple. Not a single useful function. Some kind of connection of the phone camera with the laptop. Who needs it? Or a lame stage manager or a dictation recording. It really sucks.
I've used Macs all my life, since the 80s. Don't think I have ever once actually used Spotlight, although I know it has some good uses. I just tend to keep things very organized, so I don't often have trouble finding a file, and the majority of the apps I frequently use are on my dock. All that said, I think the latest feature I like shown would be Spotlight. Searching text within images is amazing. I wonder if next, they'll add text searching within a video file next. Not that I'd use it, but sounds handy.
Curious why you dont like stage manager. I'm finding it to be a total game changer. It's really improved my workflow and I don't find myself needing to swipe through a bunch of desktops anymore to try to find things I'm working on. I don't personally like it on the 11inch ipad, it just doesnt seem to serve a purpose or work smoothly but on the Mac I'm finding it really delightful.
The nose camera is the most interesting new function to me. I never would’ve thought it was something I’d appreciate, but I do. Mainly because it’s funny, and I can always use a good laugh!
@@TomSchillemans It *might* work with other headphones or earbuds, but I don’t think I’ve tried with others. I just know you can get to it from the AirPods “accessibility” settings. It’s nice for drowning out the kids when I’m doing school work etc.
I like the new look settings and can see the usefulness of continuity camera. Otherwise it's just a small upgrade for me. Not a complaint as there's little to improve on.
I’m just about to upgrade to Ventura. I haven’t updated my MacBook for a while because of uni. I’m super excited about these features. Especially the iPhone camera feature for the Mac and the background sounds.
Duude that camera move to the side for the added content overlay is sick! At first I just thought of it as a position change done in post but when it went back to center I realized it was an actual camera move from a slider, really nice detail!
wow wow wow...I loved the camera moving to showcase the screenshot..... Please do tell how and what equipment / software your utilizing..that will be a great video...Studio showcase / how to...:)
I tried stage manager, but I found something that exists from the last version that is just as good, it's called 'the dock', I quickly disabled it. Yep, the clock is my favourite feature of it lol
I’ve been keeping an open mind about stage manager on my iPad, so far I like it… I haven’t really used it on my Mac though yet. I do always have to find old oddly named work files on my Mac so any new search features are greatly appreciated, so Spotlight is where it’s at for me.
Anybody know how I can select audio output (to my bluetooth speaker), from within Apple Music? Since updating to Ventura, it no longer appears next to the volume controls.
So do you have to be connected to the internet for Spotlight to be able to identify a concert as a concert... and if so how much access to your personal photos has Apple got?
Hi Great Video I wonder if you can help since l updated to Ventura on my Mac book pro l can turn down my Brightness, if I try to turn it down it will Automatically go to full brightness. I have turn off the adjust brightness but with no joy. All so the brightness icon stay's on the screen. Any idea's
That new spotlight feature looks like the best reason to upgrade. I have used the background sounds on the iPhone before, it's under accessibility. Good that it's on the Mac now.
Question. I noticed that I was able to use my phone camera through quick time as you demonstrated. Then like five minutes later my phone was no longer an option on the pull down. It's like it just decided to remove that option. Hmmm. Any thoughts or just buggy? Thanks 😎
Spotlight is probably the single feature I use most across all my devices. I hate messy desktops/home screens with icons anyway. Between Spotlight and my hotkeys for windows management, I find myself missing those features most when I'm stuck on Windows for anything.
Hit the Windows key and start typing. It automatically starts Windows search. It isn't as smooth or useful as Apple Spotlight, but essentially the same thing. Windows has plenty of hot keys, you just have to spend the time training your fingers to use them. Moreover, you can set up hot keys for your "short-cuts" which can very useful. I spent a year learning MacOS and when finding a useful feature, I then found out it was also in Windows but I wasn't aware of it. Often the same thing in reverse. MacOS and Windows UI features are far more similar than they are different. Most people just don't take the time to learn the minor differences in accessing those features. I am not advocating using Windows, but many Mac user need to use Windows at work. No need to be frustrated just because it's control-this instead of command-that.
@@logaandm thanks Logan. I’m pretty familiar with Windows search and hot key functions since I develop for the platform, I just prefer MacOS and spotlight search. I know Windows now supports a bash command line like terminal in Linux and MacOS but I got very used to using it on Unix systems before it was around on Windows and so naturally I gravitate towards the Unix systems. Windows is doing a lot to try and maintain its user base from bleeding into MacOS and Linux, and I think that’s great, but they have a long ways to go and a lot of front end and backend to clean up from decades of developing against the grain.
I advise you to disable spotlight. In addition to the fact that it greatly affects the performance, it also spoils your ssd with endless indexing. I disabled it on the first day of buying the laptop.
Hey guys! there is any shortcut to activate/deactivate the background sound? It's not a nice deal if you have to go settings>accessibility anytime that you want to use or stop it
With Ventura are you still able to use a tape camera in order to import those old sequences in IMovie or Final Cut? At some point in Monterey we were not able to import from a tape camera anymore. It was corrected in a later update. So is somebody able to confirm that it is still working ?
I had a problem with my 2015 laptop Touch Bar light was constantly flashing. Ventura disabled the bar and now the flashing is gone too :DDDD I've used it as a backup laptop but thenflashing light was so annoying. I'm so glad Ventura fixed this.
1:38 Anyone else using Clean my Mac but does not have this menu with recommendations he mentions? I've checked to make sure I am on the latest version and app reports I am (version 1.3.8). Is this a feature that only works with Ventura (as I have not updated yet)?
Background sounds have been part of iOS for a while, and I find they help me to concentrate when working in my office. On an iPhone, they can be activated through Settings - Control Center -Hearing. Now, you can play the sounds through Control Center, so they're really easy to access.
I just updated to Monterey a few days ago 🤣 I don’t use my Mac mini much. Edit: No update on offer for me so it’ll probably be this time next year for the update again. Edit: Turns out Monterey will be the final proper update my Mac mini ever gets, 8 years of support wasn’t bad I suppose.

Do you know how to fix finder search in Ventura? Mine is now broken, when I modify the settings>advanced>when performing a search> search the current folder, my search results return nothing. I'm dead in the water, ugh. You're the only mac channel I watch, lol!
I'm still rocking a 15" 2015 retina and I can honestly say there's nothing here that interests me... other than that wallpaper... which I already downloaded.
I have been using 1Password for years, but am not keen on the new version. Especially the subscription. I would like to move to using keychain, but it has had restrictions. The new change brings it closer. Now I need to think if it’s time to make the jump. Does iOS do the same with the new password options.
Having a white noise generator on your MacBook is of great benefit when you're stuck in a hotel room with a noisy hallway right behind the door and you have to sleep. Most of the noise apps on the store are crap and filled with ads, so having it natively (like we already have had on iPhone) is a bonus and lets me delete a shitty app.
Honestly, as someone with tinnitus, the background noise thing is a great feature. Quiet rooms make my ears ring until I get a headache
Thats awful how do you survive school?
Same here😅
When studying this will be nice too. I used that feature on my phone but now I don't have to!

Me too!
Love the camera slide to the left as the screen share slides in 👌

I agree, very nice creative shot there Luke!
That slider/dolly shot for switching to showing your desktop was S M O O T H !
More of those cool production things please!

Spotlight quicklook and photo search is really cool, it helps me while reading stuff
First Apple gets rid of the cooling fan noise, then they bring it back as an app and call it background noise.
