  • Here is part 1 of my conversation with my friend Olivia who is a 6 month Kindle Scribe owner. She uses it for work and reads a lot on it. We discuss the device itself and mix in some other alternatives in the market as well. In part 2, releasing Jan 5th, we further the conversation. Feel free to ask any questions you might have in the comments. I'll link all the products I discussed below here as well. My Productivity Tools Playlist - • Productivity Tools

    Lovely chat and feel of the video, reminiscent of (uncharacteristically interesting ;) breakfast radio banter... I also appreciated the (Vlad-solo) companion video.
    This is just to point out that the Scribe cover is dead useful as a stand in three different (stable!) positions, if you forget how some other origami covers fold back on themselves. For the Scribe cover, the magnets hold the last (hinge-distal) third of the cover tightly in place, parallel to the back of the Scribe, if that last third is NOT folded back in toward the hinge, but instead points away from the hinge. This gives you a high and low angle portrait mode position (depending on which end points up and with Scribe autorotate helping out, if you do not want to turn the Scribe 180 degrees in the cover) and a high landscape mode position for both landscape orientations. Here a picture would be worth a thousand words, but I hope you get the idea...

      Hey Carsten, glad you liked it! That is great to know about the folio, as I mentioned I don't have one so I'm not well-versed to discuss it. I am pinning your comment for the meantime so it can get more upvotes, that way other people can see it to know how to use it properly. You are right a picture is worth a thousand words but you did a great job describing it, I can envision how it works in my head now👍thank you for posting that!

    You guys missed the way the kindle scribe folio works. It’s actually quite solid in exactly the way you want. The bottom third of the cover magnetically attaches to the back of the case and sit’s solidly at a low angle and even stands well at a high angle. If you read the manual when you were unpacking the Scribe, Amazon made a big deal about how this works, obviously because it’s not real “guessable” until you see it done.

      Yes good point Jim, I pinned someone else's comment to the top with a link to the image of how it should be used. I don't have a folio so wasn't aware of this at the time haha

    Great overview - loved the conversational format that covered so many aspects. Of e-ink tablets, the Scribe on sale is definitely the best bang for the buck device that for many will be "good enough." All are a lesson in compromise.

      I certainly agree, 1 year ago I would not have highly recommended it. Fast-forward to today and the software improvements have been huge though, I'm excited to see what updates the next year will bring too 📖 Glad you enjoyed it! Not sure when part 2 will launch as I have a few other vids in the works but I hope to edit it in the next week or so.

    Thank you both for this very comfortable, laid-back, discussion. It was so informative and your presentation made everything so easy to digest! I have owned the Scribe since July of this year and have so far been very happy with it. I will admit, I have my eye on the Onyx Boox Tab Ultra C Pro, as I would LOVE a color e-ink device for reading and note-taking. Perhaps when it goes down a bit in price, I will more seriously consider it. It would be awesome if Amazon came out with a color version of the Scribe! I loved your reference to the older Kindles, which was a walk down memory lane for me, lol! I had (and STILL have) both one of the original Kindles with the keyboard AND the Kindle DX, which was my favorite at the time, as I am a big fan of the larger screens. I recently tried to power them both on, but they will not even accept a charge, so they are dead in the water. I am not ready to part with them just yet, just in case they can be revived (I know, I'm delusional, lol!) and right now they are both useless paper weights. But they were wonderful at the time. I would love to see a feature on the Scribe that allows to copy and paste from an e-book to a note in the Note section of the Scribe, but I don't think there is a way. I would love that feature and would make great use of it, more than even the sticky note or annotating on PDFs, but I will certainly continue to work with what I have. Thank you again for this video, it is much appreciated and I wish you both a very Happy and Prosperous New Year, filled with abundant blessings! BTW, the dog is adorable! Thanks again!

      @VladimirKostek  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for the kind words Lou. The Boox TUC Pro is quite cool too! If you are looking for savings the standard non-pro model is cheaper as well as their new Note Air 3C (it doesn't have the keyboard attachment like the TUC but can use any Bluetooth keyboard and can lie flat without a folio) That's so cool you still have your old Kindle's, I love opening up old tech like that and fixing them 😃 I would hold onto them. Certainly a piece of tech history. The reason the new Supernote Nomad is awesome in this regard is the battery and processors are user upgradeable meaning it won't become a paperweight. I'm huge into sustainable technology like this and that's why I made a few Framework videos. I agree having a screen capture feature to then put into a note would be incredibly handy. Wishing you a fantastic new year as well!

    Olivia’s wish to erase a whole section quickly is possible. Just use the lasso tool under the eraser in the side menu. It’s much faster than trying to erase a whole section with the eraser on the back of the pencil.

    Absolutely agree with Olivia about there being room for a cadre of pen options. I totally think there is a market for that. I’m super choosy about what pens I use and have similarly felt resentful toward certain pens that were uncomfortable. This is loosely related but for anyone looking for a traditional pen, my favorite pen for everyday use on paper is: PILOT Precise V5 RT Refillable & Retractable Liquid Ink Rolling Ball Pens - Extra Fine Point (0.5mm).

    Very interesting interview, thanks!
    I'm not really sure if I should commit to the Scribe since at the moment I really do write a lot more than I read. I write a lot because I'm learning Japanese and want to use the device for that. I also do journaling and write to-do-lists everyday. On top of that, I read scientific papers and want to annotate directly on them.
    This is why I'm more driven to the devices from Supernote but the A6-format is just to small for me, even if I have the ability to landscape. I really want to have an A5 (~10-11''ish) device. I hope that Supernote releases the A5X2 soon. The A6X2 is too small for me, unfortunately.
    Do you think that it would be worth waiting for the A5X2-release? The Remarkable is not really and option for me because I really love the design and the attitude of the Supernote devices.
    On the one hand, I also think that it could make sense to have 2 devices; a smaller Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition for reading solely, (preferentially books) and another device for taking notes. On the other hand, the Kindle Scribe is on sale right now in my country (Germany) and the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is not. So, I could also try the Kindle Scribe first and maybe it already suffices my needs. However, if it doesn't, I end up with two 10-11'' devices. It's so difficult to decide. What would you do if you would be in my position (and had never used an e-ink device at all before) - buy the Kindle Scribe right now or wait for the Kindle Paper White Signature Edition sale and the Supernote A5X2 release? :D

    • @VladimirKostek
      @VladimirKostek  4 месяца назад +2

      ありがとうございます! I would say if you are just going to get one device then the Scribe makes sense, especially on sale. I really like the A6 X2, going to make more content on it soon (Loving the pens). However, like you said it is small. I think its a good supplementary device but if you are just going to have one then something larger would be solid. I just got the pocketbook inkpad color 3 and I'm obsessed with it, it doesn't take notes though. I feel like an A5 X2 will likely come out this year but it's really anyone's guess, I'm sure it will be a great device... loving Supernote's Atelier drawing app too. I hope that helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

      Hi Gary, that's exciting you are starting a new job! The reMarkable is great for notetaking, I should note that you have to incorporate the pen cost and 2.99$ per month for the connect subscription to enable some of the features. So long term it does have a higher cost of ownership. If you read books as well I'd say the Scribe is better. Just for notetaking the rM2 is a better device though, but reading books on it is rather tricky. Hope that helps 👍
