Takes me back to my 1st job at Deichmann Woolwich before I knew the rules. I ran after this guy for like 20 min and caught him in a public toilet. I grabbed a hold of him in front of city guards lol they didnt want to help me but they called the cops who caught him on a bus thru cctv. Then I learned staff mustnt chase after shoplifters and its actually calculated by the company that paying for security is a higher cost than what people steal. That was when I started doing it myself

the thing that makes this INCREDIBLY funny is that from what i know, most of the time *actual security guards* aren’t even supposed to do anything about it when they see someone pulling shit and are just supposed to call the cops after the fact, so just a normalass tesco employee doing this is the funniest scenario imaginable

This is actually quite sad… for anyone who’s never worked in retail I’ll explain it… when people are working low wage jobs to pay their way, seeing people who aren’t hard up or struggling steal from the store because they cba to put the effort in or contribute anything creates a bad feeling… I can assure you if staff were allowed they would 100% use baseball bats, & it has nothing to do with protecting the company they work for & 100% due to seeing people walk in & take things for free that the workers who maintain the store earn the money to buy.
But at the end of the day, these stores such as ASDA, Tesco, etc they don't care about you anyways if you're a worker. You don't get no promotion, no special pay, no nothing. So why would anybody risk their life or put so much effort in trying to stop a thief. And most thieves don't even steal valuable items In Tesco, they'll tend to steal meat products. When security is not there they'll go all in stealing alcohol bottles.

in my 24 years of experience in employment from junior office boy to head of a division to CEO of my own company, I have learnt that when employees take their job tedious, low paid job too seriously and work too hard they are covering up the fact they are on some sort of fiddle. They keep their superiors happy and contented so all the monitoring and suspicion comes off them, because at the end of the day the petit cadres are only interested in results at a microlevel.

As a manager of a co op you have no idea how annoying and how much time it takes to watch the CCTV, write down a report, see everything they’ve taken, add it all up, try to get through to security on the phone to give them the report, then speak to the police and adjust your stock figures all while dealing with your normal morning jobs where you are already struggling with time. If you don’t do it you’re in shit with the other managers.
