    I find if I use Hormex, Kelp Max and Myco+ once a month on any orchid, old roots even spongy ones will branch new active growth roots in about 2-3 weeks if you have good humidity in summer.
    You can do that because you have plenty of humidity and will quickly grow new roots. Those of us in north - NC and north we don’t have the humidity to make this just happen so easy. We need every root we can get.

    Hey Stu. Informative video. Just got myself my first aerides which has some "split ends" that need cutting. Do you determine if the root is good simply by the root tip? Is a "bad" root simply one that doesn't have any growth/tip on it? There are some obvious brown, "crunchy" roots, but then there are some that turn green/white spotty when I water them, and sorta seem fleshy/substantial but don't have any root tips. Anyways, your videos and responses are always valued/appreciated. Thanks for the content!!!!!

    • @mainlyvandas214
      @mainlyvandas214  5 лет назад +2

      Any root that turns green with white spots is still very well alive!! Leave it alone, it will sprout new root tips in time. It prob just got damaged when being moved around or a roach ate it or something. Lol..crunchy roots are no good..be gone lol

      I wish I could send a pic for you to see what I'm dealing with

    • @mainlyvandas214
      @mainlyvandas214  Год назад

      Hello, it really depends on your growing conditions and the overall health of the plant. With the Vanda testacea in the background, there are going to be much longer roots, as you are seeing now versus just straight Vanda falcata. If the root system is big enough, cutting roots is not an issue, as the plant will eventually grow new, but it may set the plant back some if not healthy to begin with. You can always try it out, and if you see the plant start to decline, you can always take out of the pot and hang bare root. Thanks!

    Do you spray the freshly cut root tips with hydrogen peroxide or any other fungicide?
    I have a young Vanda and it’s an import, came with stringy brownish roots. I’ve been able to grow more root on her and want to know if it’s ok now to trim off some of those stringy roots.
    Thank you!

    • @mainlyvandas214
      @mainlyvandas214  5 лет назад +1

      If you are regularly spraying fungicides it shouldnt be an issue. If you are concerned about it, then H2O2 will assist with any new cut. I dont usually use it, but you can no prob. Its always a good idea to get rid of the stringy brown roots asap. They do NOTHING for the plant except.carry diseases. Sounds like you are on right track! ;)

    Hi new subscriber !
    My new vanda has very long slim but stringy roots plus big fat top ones with growing tips..
    Was wondering about the stringy thin ones: they’re quite silver/green and get very dark green when sprayed.. are these OK or should I cut them (no brown bits). Also wondering about the little plastic black box which seems to strangle the roots: should I get it off?
    Thanks lovely video

    • @mainlyvandas214
      @mainlyvandas214  3 года назад +1

      Hello. If the roots appear to be white/green after watering, then they are perfectly fine still. Its when they turn brown and get crunchy that they are bad. The plastic baskets are there for the roots to grab hold. While not necessary, they do serve a purpose when trying to get the plant established at a young age, so I would leave it alone, especially during winter time.
