    Just don’t snip it too high or you will loose the bottom leaves due to how the grow. Leave 3-4” from last set of leaves to be safe. I think folks give many Vanda like these strap leaf types too much sun.

    Ugh, theyre both sooooo sexy! ❤ tip for furture videos you make, it would really show the blooms of your plants off more if you put a dark screen behind them so just make a clip of the plant placed on something on its own in front of a black screen and move the camera around it and close and far away to and from it then go back to yourself holding them and showing us certain bits. Really appreciate what youre doing, good sir, your plants are stunningly beautiful and im rather jealous if I do say so myself 😂❤

    Hello, great video thank you! How would you treat a suspicious looking blackened area on a vanda stem (about half way up the length of my vanda). I have been spraying daily with 3% hydrogen peroxide and then drying it under a fan. But, would you recommend applying cinnamon powder to the area instead, or should I just continue doing what I'm doing? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video! Mine doesn't have crown rot, but I am new to the Vanda variety and have been trying to do research on how to help my dying baby. I've had a couple phals for maybe 5 or 6 years now, and a vanilla for 2. So not terribly new to orchids, but I am still learning a lot. Do you have any video's on saving a nearly rootless vanda? It lost almost all it's roots when I first got it a few month ago (didn't know what I was getting into) now it has 2. 1 fat one which is mostly brown with a quarter inch of green on the tip and brown green close to the plant. And the other one is 100% brown, but still feels firm like it is trying to hold on.

    I have a collection of Neof. Falcata orchids. I plant them in the traditional Japanese style. I just bought a V Lucknow testacea falcata. It has very long air root ,an is in a 2x2 " pot that is packed...can I cut some of the longer roots off to enable me to put it in a large Falcata pot.

      I wish I could send a pic for you to see what I'm dealing with

    • @mainlyvandas214
      @mainlyvandas214 Год назад

      Hello, it really depends on your growing conditions and the overall health of the plant. With the Vanda testacea in the background, there are going to be much longer roots, as you are seeing now versus just straight Vanda falcata. If the root system is big enough, cutting roots is not an issue, as the plant will eventually grow new, but it may set the plant back some if not healthy to begin with. You can always try it out, and if you see the plant start to decline, you can always take out of the pot and hang bare root. Thanks!

    That is gorgeous-mine doesn’t look like that bloom wise. Not that color. AOS Awards The American Orchid Society grants the following awards to orchids and exhibitors. AOS awards are a recognized measure of quality the world over and coveted by hobbyists and commercial growers alike. An AOS flower quality award adds value to an orchid in its own right, and as a parent for creating hybrids. HCC (Highly Commended Certificate) Awarded to orchid species or hybrids scoring 75 to 79 points inclusive on a 100-point scale. AM (Award of Merit) Awarded to orchid species or hybrids scoring 80 to 89 points inclusive on a 100-point scale. FCC (First Class Certificate) The highest flower-quality award, awarded to orchid species or hybrids scoring 90 points or more on a 100-point scale. JC (Judges' Commendation) Given for distinctive characteristics that at least 75% of the judges on a team feel should be recognized but cannot be scored in the customary ways. AD (Award of Distinction) Awarded once to a cross representing a worthy new direction in Breeding. The award is granted unanimously without scoring by the judging team assigned. AQ (Award of Quality) Awarded once to a cross exhibited by a single individual as a group of not less than 12 plants or inflorescences of different clones of a hybrid or cultivated species. At least one of the inflorescences must receive a flower quality award and the overall quality of the group must be an improvement over the former type. CBR (Certificate of Botanical Recognition) Awarded to rare and unusual species with educational interest that has received no previous awards. The entire plant must be exhibited. This award is granted provisionally and filed with the judging center Chair pending taxonomic verification. CHM (Certificate of Horticultural Merit) Awarded to a well-grown and well-flowered species or natural hybrid with characteristics that contribute to the horticultural aspects of orchidology, such as aesthetic appeal. This award is granted provisionally and filed with the judging center Chair pending taxonomic verification. CCM (Certificate of Cultural Merit) Awarded to the exhibitor of a well-flowered specimen plant of robust health. The plant must have been in the care of the exhibitor at least 12 months immediately prior to the award and must score between 80 and 89 points inclusive on a 100-point scale. CCE (Certificate of Cultural Excellence) Awarded to the exhibitor of a well-flowered specimen plant of robust health. The plant must have been in the care of the exhibitor at least 12 months immediately prior to the award and must score at least 90 points on a 100-point scale. I find if I use Hormex, Kelp Max and Myco+ once a month on any orchid, old roots even spongy ones will branch new active growth roots in about 2-3 weeks if you have good humidity in summer. You can do that because you have plenty of humidity and will quickly grow new roots. Those of us in north - NC and north we don’t have the humidity to make this just happen so easy. We need every root we can get.

    That's the variation called rotorii. In this variation,colors vary. They can be reddish brown to scarlet red to dark red to almost black. In the Philippines,they're not a reliable bloomers at sea level. It's the v var merrilii and var immaculata that can bloom reliably under lowland conditions. There is also a yellow form blotched in reddish brown from Mindoro that is more suitable for lowland cultivation and is,in my opinion,the most fragrant variation of the species.
