He isn't though. He didn't go to the E5 once in this entire performance. He's lost several notes on the top of his range. All these comments saying that his voice hasn't changed a bit and not one of you seems to realize that he changed up the last bit of the chorus to make it possible to sing. Dropped it an entire octave to sing it.
@@nadinemulford1876 That's fine. It's also still a good performance of this iconic song. It's just factually incorrect to say that he hasn't lost any of his range. He clearly has. I loved the original video with it's innovative animation, mixed into the storyline. It was "cool" and danceable. But this rendition leaves me utterly breathless. The lyrics seem so heartfelt and full of yearning. I cry each time I come back to see this. It is exquisite.
+Angelus Nielson Certainly wasn’t meaning to offend - you Scandinavians have a fine gene pool. I’m 48, and also find myself taken straight back to my younger days.
It's also cool to see all these middle aged women being taken back to their teenage years, and many were singing along with him. They get to have their fangirl moment again just like kids these days with newer artists.
I'm 25, so it's not like I grew up during this song coming out, but even so. If you don't feel how viscerally powerful it rings through your soul, then there is no hope for you my friend
Man, this song hits different than the original. The original was like live life, take a chance, be daring, take advantage of the spontaneous relationships, because it's gone in a day or two. But this version transforms into taking life slow, savor the moments, I'm here for you now, because in a day or 2 I'm gone forever. Not meaning moving on to another place, but moving on from existence, passing away.
@@xxhotwintersxx1 Every time I see someone singing along in the audience I want to stop and pass him the mic. The audience isn't here to hear YOU sing.
@@xxhotwintersxx1 You won't catch me dead singing aloud at somebody else's gig. Would you want a guy sitting near you at the movies to yell all the lines, possibly slightly off-time and with no acting talent at all? I understand some concerts are the musical equivalent of the Rocky Horror Show. Some, not every one.
@@xxhotwintersxx1 And that's why I mentioned a theatre piece. Live music in front of the "talent" is just that little bit less enjoyable if random people are squawking in your ears. Edit: it's obviously not "my" opinion. Four out of five people in this thread share it.
This is the most Norwegian dude of all time. He looks amazing (they all look amazing) and is probably a cat doctor or grocery bagger or something now during the daytime. They all gather at night to play A-Ha tunes and to stoke nostalgic fires. And that's enough. That's amazing.
Morten Harket’s hobbies include drawing, painting and cars. Had some movie roles and cameo apperances. But didn't quit music, ever. At the early age of four Morten Harket started writing music and playing piano. Later when the band A-Ha wasn't active he did a lot solo projects and cooperations with other artists. Amazing voice too, capable of "the greatest falsetto in the history of pop music ever""
When you think of the thousands of times he's sung these lyrics it's amazing how he still pours his heart into them. Like it's his first time seeing them.
It probably helps to strip it, slow it down, and really let the lyrics take center stage away from the classic video. He gets a chance to display the true substance of the song.
This version is much more melancholic and sad, like a person finally reaching the end of their life and looking back on the good things that they’ll leave behind

I lost my mom on 8/1/21. She had a major influence on my taste in music and I have great memories of her and I enjoying tunes together. Those memories with her will always be you and so is she. My condolences.
Hello @MCFCRuss Brown.. very nice words indeed. But to be honest, at least to me it was somehow different than you describe it. I am one of those women watching Morten sing ... ..but what I felt went significantly beyond the nostalgia for a younger self or a teenage crush . What happened there those nights was immense! The atmosphere, the communion between the band & musicians/guest artists, the interaction with the audience, the arrangements, the incredible landscape of Giske and the midnight sun. Sitting there, so far from home, listening to the band you love, I assure you ... it was much more than going back in time. It was about the present: feeling alive and incredibly lucky. And grateful that 2010 was not "the end of the road", as Magne said back then. Had it been so, this version would not have existed.
The original is like one night stands & this version is more like the guy marries the same girl & sings this version when they're older & still together.

When the words are pronounced slowly, you understand the lyrics and simply appreciate the beautiful message of the song.
Yes finally I understood
Breaking down songs to their base can be powerful. The Offspring's 'Gone Away' comes to mind.

@@KenReilleyI don't know how he performed Gone Away lice. That song always made me cry and feel less.
😢 Y eso que hablo Spanish 😅😅
You have no idea how good this song is till its slowed down a pop song that is so well written it should be a poem
What are you talking about? It's always been good.

Lol l was, this is so special 😔
Last Monday I played this while cooking dinner. My mom had been sick, and the part I'll be gone in a day or two hit me hard. Thursday morning she passed. The last song she heard me play for her.
Sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and God bless your mom
Sorry for your loss.
He looks so emotional and the audience are almost crying.
U can feel his emotions coming out while he never flenches..
He has the literal voice of an angel.
Shane Mccormick
What’s a flench?
Best part about this version is I can understand what he's saying
You are so right :)
Still hitting them high notes, age hasn't damaged that wonderful voice.
@@cuylshepherdton7437 I don't care.
@@nadinemulford1876 That's fine. It's also still a good performance of this iconic song. It's just factually incorrect to say that he hasn't lost any of his range. He clearly has. That being said, after a medical issue I had I can't sing this song as it was originally written anymore either. Life sucks.
@@cuylshepherdton7437 you're right of course. In this setting, this pacing, it .... just works.
Rewind back to the 80s and yeah, 100%
I like this performance.
I was at the A-HA show in Buenos Aires on March 25 and he still has that angelic voice.

No... it's Iowa
It's not about the song. It's about how the lively song aged with the people who shone in a youth long forgotten. It's remembering who you are and who you once were. It breaks my heart.
That was beautifully said
Weird wording, totally unnecessary
@@weezypeezy1725 @@@@@1
@@weezypeezy1725 That's okay, I'm not forcing you to like it and it's your choice to try to be negative towards something that's intended to be positive.
was thinking the exact same thing. especially with how the camera pans onto the audience to see that they're all middle aged people reminiscing about how they listened to this song as kids
I loved the original video with it's innovative animation, mixed into the storyline. It was "cool" and danceable. But this rendition leaves me utterly breathless. The lyrics seem so heartfelt and full of yearning. I cry each time I come back to see this. It is exquisite.
Seeing the older ladies remembering days that are long gone - bitter sweet.
Ouch dude, I was a kid when this song came out. (I'm 43 as of today)
+Angelus Nielson Certainly wasn’t meaning to offend - you Scandinavians have a fine gene pool. I’m 48, and also find myself taken straight back to my younger days.
You never too old, and even if you should be, it should not feel bittersweet:)
I'm 47 and yep brings me back to when I was young
I'm 43 and you're right, long gone and bittersweet...but this breathes life into those memories and stirs up more recent ones. Sigh.
wow, he's still hitting those notes... really amazing voice.
It's also cool to see all these middle aged women being taken back to their teenage years, and many were singing along with him. They get to have their fangirl moment again just like kids these days with newer artists.
That's what a singer meant to be
And god he's one of them
Falsetto. A singer has a physical barrier for the low notes but can hit almost any note on the highs if he uses falsetto. ;-)
@@galept yes and that's gorgeous
i'm only 21, so I have no nostalgia for this song. But watching all the women probably re-living their younger years, in their eyes, is beautiful
Same
I'm 25, so it's not like I grew up during this song coming out, but even so. If you don't feel how viscerally powerful it rings through your soul, then there is no hope for you my friend
Facts bro closest they'll ever get too those days again
It's an incredible video. The original I mean. I love the drawing. Look it up on youtube if you haven't watched it. It's tense and exciting.
Kalib Alsaeid hope they have their pads on
Thank god for deadpool 2 for making everyone appreciate the lyrics . This reworking of the song touched my heart before.
It's such an incredibly intimate performance.
What’s happening to you?

Yes. His voice is *STILL* so hauntingly beautiful! 😊
pity it's heavily auto-tuned, even if he was singing a bit out of key I'd forgive him.

What????
Morten Harket’s hobbies include drawing, painting and cars. Had some movie roles and cameo apperances. But didn't quit music, ever. At the early age of four Morten Harket started writing music and playing piano. Later when the band A-Ha wasn't active he did a lot solo projects and cooperations with other artists. Amazing voice too, capable of "the greatest falsetto in the history of pop music ever""
I loved this song before. But this is beautiful.

When you think of the thousands of times he's sung these lyrics it's amazing how he still pours his heart into them. Like it's his first time seeing them.
It probably helps to strip it, slow it down, and really let the lyrics take center stage away from the classic video. He gets a chance to display the true substance of the song.

MCFCRuss Brown im rining right now
Hello @MCFCRuss Brown.. very nice words indeed.
The groupie never dies...
