MS13?, you got your history wrong, dude. I was born and raised in Los, the cholos -which were originally all Mexican and still overwhelmingly are- are the gangsters that started wearing the shoe. While Bloods and Crips wearing Fila, Lottos and other brands in the late mid 80’s, Cholos were rocking the Cortez shoes, usually black, dark blue suede, or white. MS-13 took their style from Mexican gangsters, because the Mara came way later.

Mark Mendoza Hernandez that's a damn shame ese
My pops wanted his kid to be a G like him. But nah I stuck with vans or Adidas until highschool cause all the Paisa kids were assholes.
I had a white pair and blue pair of Cortez when I was 15 back in 1999- 2000. Never once did anyone even acknowledge them or have anything negative to say about them. They were just shoes.
Had COrtez twice. The white, red and blue version and the black version with white swoosh. Loved them.
Still remember gangsters in middle school and high school wearing these. Sureños wore the khakis with blue Cortez and the Norteños had the 501’s with the red Cortez. Salinas 831 (Santa Rita Bahamas)
Salvador Murillo Lol I remember too
Hell yeah Salinas CA ! Monterrey
The valley
Pa' La Raza 😂😂😂 my girl is from a small lil town up there called Gonzales

Homie thanks for bringing this part of my life to light...i didnt know the history of this shoe that i wore and i feel enlightened...no joke. ..great video👍
I’m from Canada and I’ve always wanted a pair of Cortez’s, I had no idea about their history with gang culture. Super interesting
I’m from ca too and I cooped a black one today.
Lol...you'll probably be fine wearing those in Canada.
Very safe place
@@jairocondones Think again. I live there too, and I used to wear these a LOT. Robbed, fought, and ran from cops with AMAZING success because of the grip of those shoes.
John Smith which part of Canada are you in tho. Bruhhhh the grip of the shoes are 10/10 holy shit it squeaks every time I walk.
Together Nikes Co-owner Bill Bowerman ( who was also a running coach) and his Olympic athlete Steve Prefontaine worked extremely hard to create Nikes first running shoe, designed to be light weight, comfortable, yet durable enough so that Olympic runners like "Pre" could perform to the best of their abilities. Rest in peace to both of these legends.
Pedro g. RIP 😢
👍🏽
"Memories" My first compliments in junior high was sporting the cortes. I broke up with a girl for a girl that wore cortes for gym class.
My first fight in CYA was because a want-a-be tough guy TRY to steal my new all white cortes.
🤣😆😂😲🫢 my comment was very similar about me fighting over some Cortez’s in middle school scrolled comments and seen I was not alone 😂😂😂😏🤜🏾
Been wearing these for over 30 years most comfortable shoe ever, nike still has original 72s in stock for people wanting originals

@@NachoAverageFinds those originals are around 200 bucks if I'm not mistaken
Nike Cortez , really are the most underrated shoes.
ツMist true story
I asked for the white and black Cortez for Christmas last year b/c I saw Bruno Mars wear them on his tour 😂 now I know why. They’re comfy AF
Alondra Vega kinda comfy for me I got fat feet tho 😂😂
I've always loved Cortez I got my 1st pair in 1989 and just bought a pair of navy blue suede and nylon 5 months ago
We used to call these 'G-nikes' when I was little, and at one point in time, you couldn't even wear these if you wasn't a gang member - somebody would press you.
All that aside, the Cortez is definitely a classic shoe and a little more safer to wear these days.
I always wanted to know where the name came from, but never looked into it, so I appreciate this video - was very well done. Respect.
Jameezy Thanks for the encouragement man! Working on another video now 🙏🏼
I got some cortes's in 1990 and continued to buy them that entire decade and even into the 2000s
Edward Sanchez what about now ?
@@NachoAverageFinds I joined the Army in 2000 and I'm still in. Now all I wear is my boots, running shoes or sandals lol
When I get time off now I just look like a lil hobo. Little did I know the Army stole my dignity the day I swore in 19 years ago lol.
2020 is coming and I been rocking them since the 90's
@Lucas Cruz Nice!

Mujeres sexy 13+ up oh wait it doesn't mean that
mrbeaner90 stupid
BRIAN LOPEZ stupid
I remember back then if you wore Cortez you're bound to be confronted by people (every color) and you better be ready for anything. Nowadays, I see some kids wearing it which is fine but I guess nobody gave em a warning and they'll fold quicker than a foldable table 🤣. I'm overdue, this video makes me wanna pick up a clean pair. They're sure comfy as hell!
Nick Vongsavanh lmao FACTS! Go get you a pair man
They also were embraced by the dance community for the longest time, it became a signature for the choreo scene
I own 5 pairs of nike cortez, various colours.
Cortez is my first sneakers and im still loving it till today
Please do Air Force 1!
FailStreet on I will appreciate the feedback
In 8th grade i started wearing cortez cause nobody had em they try to clown me but like 3 weeks later half the school was rockn em and then i hated em cause too many folks had em
Dru LLoring 😂😂😂 8th grade I was wearing the Reebok nylons I think just to be different from the guys in the Cortez 😂😂
I’ve owned several lmao they’re timeless!
These are still by FAR MY FAVORITE SHOES!!!

Big Like and also you earned a subscriber!
Very well documented and it can be seen that you have put an effort in doing this 6:21 min video. I can only imagine how long it took to find all the stills, the scene from Charlie's Angels, etc.
Good job, keep it up!
PULIX PULIX haha Thank you for noticing man! This shit took me forever 😂😂😂
I love Nike Cortez's! I'm from Southern California, Santa Ana, O.C.. MS-13 weren't even around in the 70's or 80's it was the ESE who push those shoes. It was a South American felt in love with them shoes
I’m so happy that I have a pair. I never knew the history of the shoe.
I rotated my cortezs with my adidas shell toe high tops in high school in 71 and played tennis in my stan smiths in 77 now I just keep them in the boxes…🎁
MS 13 wasn't even around early 80s
youtubing late 80s yes
OMAR orale
Back in the eighties , I wore these exact shoes for 8 years in college and in the US Air Force and even bought 2 pairs at a time once at a special sale....I never knew there was a problem....
