@@tpfoxCastro I mean, we kinda got a small thing between him and Penny when she was complaining about how annoying her dad is. Arven told her that it's because he very clearly cares for her. That makes sense, actually. Penny flowers are known for their coloration, especially the 'jump-up' that reminds me of her hair. This keeps to the theme of flower names in Penny's family.
An interesting fact is that for one part Penny loves Eevee as we already know, but it seems her older sister Peoina loves Pikachu, as she has some Pikachu earings. Maybe that might be a reference to Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee
Now before people ask why Penny's Dad is Peony. Just know that people who are dark can have light skinned children. I know from experience that people with an African grandfather and People with an Indian, Filipino or Dark Asian Parrent can have light skinned children who some times even look nothing like their dark skinned parent. But damn, still didn't expect Peony to be Penny's dad.
I knew there was a connection because of Penny being from Galar as well as her hair being multicolored, her name coming from the plant "peony" and her eyes haing the same shape as Rose and Peony. I figured Penny was related to Rose and Peony in some way, but my thought was initially that it was Rose who was the father. Guess I should've seen it being Peony after what Peny said about him. About the skin tone thing, I'm also the son of a mixed-race couple myself. My dad has tan skin and is of Middle Eastern descent while my mom is white. I take after my mom more than my dad - we don't look alike that much - and my brother has my dad's Middle-Eastern colors. It's reasonable for Penny to not have her dad's skin tone.
That family cooked up TWO evil team leaders, being Chairman Rose and his niece Penny lmao. It’s also funny that both their teams have space themed names, Marco-Cosmos and Team Star. Penny even went under an alias named after a constellation. Rose likely had the “Cosmos” in his company name to elude to the fact that they wanted to get power from Eternatus, a Pokemon who came from space.
When the final episode of Winds aired I actually freaked out when we saw Penny on the train in Galar. Penny is honestly one of my favorite pokémon characters because she's not only like myself (shy, always holding off anime to binge it after work) but because I'm related to someone with her name and my brother likes Eevee. It felt like home to see her pop up after beating a Team Star base. That and I can totally see people raving to her battle theme in an after party for VGC Worlds.
Team Star wasn't evil, they were the victim's that banded together when they were being bullied and stood together to face the bullies. Rose was *LITERALLY* trying to bring about the "Darkest Day" under the pretext that one day galar will one day be out of power supply in a thousand years or so and refused to listen to reason and put the entire Galar region (or even the world) at risk because he couldn't wait a day for Leon to help him with a solution smh 🤦
Star isn't evil. And while Macro Cosmos is pretty damn evil, I feel like they're worse WITHOUT Rose at the helm. He's greedy and kinda stupid but he has a moral compass of sorts. Without him, they're free to continue their stranglehold on the Galar economy unhindered.
Probably because the word “penny” is completely different from “peony” and because not every notable human Pokémon character HAS to be named after a plant.
penny's my favourite of the main game trio but i was instantly about ready to throw hands over her calling peony "ultra mega annoying" peony is a great man, i'd literally lay down my life for him
I mean you can have the coolest parents in real life but for their kids you see a lot of the time they are just unimpressed since well to them its just their parents though I mean Penny obviously loves him but yeah she seems to really like to do things on her own while her dad is a big extrovert so those two likely clash
lol yeah, a definitely lot more common of an occurrence. Forgot to mention, but it’s the same with my siblings also, who are all more tan than me 😅 I think we’re just used to Pokémon characters looking almost exactly alike if they’re related. Especially after Legends Arceus has ancestors and descendants being nearly one to one.
My dad is technically the same race as me, but he is waaay darker than my mom, and me and my isters are all a bit paler on our mothers side. The difference between my sisters and I and our dad isn't as drastic as penny and piony, but I can still buy it
Imagine at the family reunion Penny and Rose are going back and forth about their evil teams. Just think about it like this: Rose: Penny, how you could terrorize those bullies?! Penny: At least I didn't, oh I don't know, unleash an alien Pokemon onto the school to solve an energy crisis 1,000 years too early! Also, y'all think Bede would come since he was adopted by Rose?
Seems more like a need to be independent but still loving their father. They don't hate em, just wanna be their own people. Not in the best way, but they're teenagers/middle schoolers. Can't say we weren't edgy assholes at that time!
You know, it makes more sense that Penny is Peony's daughter. The names are really similar, plus I never understood why Penny had grey hair on the back of her head until now
Honestly, Melli and Penny both wear the light blue and red as accent colors and have similar gray eyes... I cannot now. I haven't played SwSh DLC, but Peony being (from what I can tell) very dramatic, yet has an underlying cruel streak which fits Rose...and yet despite having green eyes, both brothers do have a similar eye shape of Melli...
Can you just imagine how badly Nemona will freak out if she finds that Penny's dad is a former champion? It's a shame the bit about Rose's dad dying in a mining accident only exists in the anime because it explains so much of Peony's character and how overbearing he is to his kids. He knows things can change at any time, without warning. And imagine how this would affect Penny's relationship with Arven. Though her grandfather would have died long before she was born, she would have seen how this affected her father even decades later.
This is a little late but fun fact if you look at Penny eyebrows you can see that they are black. Not sure if that means she has naturally black hair or if they just didn't want to color her eyebrows differently.
Also, the whole thing about Peony and Penny not being the same skin tone makes sense when you look at Peonia being paler than Peony too. Penny and Peonia's mom is prolly just pasty asf, making her skin tone more apparent in the kids.
Don’t know if I just missed it somewhere in the video but it’s basically straight up confirmed in Penny’s call with her dad. He said “Adven-tour”, the same thing he says to Peonia in Crown Tundra
...Penny and Chairman Rose being relatet explains why she went fore the over the top way of handling Team Star instead of ding it the easey way and just calling them, explaining the situation and telling them to stop
I read from a comment that said in the library of the school there’s a book written by Sonia which confirms that the events of swsh took place a year and a half before SV but I’ve heard no one else talk about it so is it true?
Yes it's true, you can find it in the library. S/V takes place(idk how many years) after the events of Sw/SH, Sonia most likely had it printed a few years on between.
Just know that we have always been fatherless…except for Gen 3. Do you guys think our characters dad regret their decision of leaving us when we become champion of the whole region?
Remind me of the goofy movie with max wanting to grow while goofy still wants to be part of his son's life through a trip Weird coincidence but that's parenting for ya
When I first found out the Penny was from Galer and found out her dad is overprotective the first person that came to mind was Peony I was generally surprised at my theory that the two of them were related were right but at first I didn’t believe myself but then I realize that she probably got her looks from her mother like it’s kind of same for me and my parents I look like my dad and my sister looks like my mom while we look nothing alike
(I haven't played SwSh) Peony seems like a good guy. However I kinda resonate with Penny and Peonia's attitude towards him, if you think of it as a reference to helicopter parenting. I agree it could be better than having absent parents like in Arven's case but the best scenario would be having Nemona's parents in this case. Not too neglectful, not too controlling. Although I'll repeat myself again: Peony seems like a good guy. He lets his daughters follow what they want in life. It would be bad if he didn't.
Also their disdain for him seems to come across as just teenage girls not being fond of their father being too involved in their lives, especially since Penny is a shy and awkward shut-in while Peony is a boisterous energetic explorer, I don't think Peony actually understands Penny as well as he understands Peonia but he's trying (and failing partly), unfortunately Penny is more annoyed with his attempts.
Okay, so tin-foil hat time: The theory that Penny is Peony’s daughter existed before the DLC came out; I remember seeing it on Reddit a while back. Since the only thing in-game that made this happen was a couple of simple lines of dialogue, I can totally see a scenario where someone at Game Freak saw the theory somewhere and said “hey that’s cool, let’s go with that” and then just put those lines in to make it happen lmao
I can see why you would think that BUT I don't think that is the case, I think Penny being Peony's daughter and Peonia's sister was always the plan as their japanese names all come from different types of Peony flowers (and their english names and names in other languages all relate to Peonies): Peony obviously comes from Peony, Peonia's japanese name is Shakuya named after the Chinese Peony and Penny's japanese name is Botan which is a tree Peony. Couple that with Penny being from Galar which was established in the base game, it would be TOO MUCH of a coincidence for them to all share the same basis for their names and not be related so I think when Penny was being conceptualized, they did have this idea!
I'm not opposed to believing that Penny is has some sort of relationship with Peony but unless confirmed I only think these are speculations rather than fact's. I mean we can't discredit that maybe Penny knows Peony through Peonia as her close friend or even her father might know Peony and tries the same kind of fatherly approach with bad dad puns. It's not unlikely to suggest that Penny is related to Peony as family but it is weird that Peonia never once mentioned a sister or Peony mentioning another daughter (assuming this is in a chronological order of the Crown Tundra DLC) but there is another factor I could consider, she maybe the adoptive daughter of Peony. Penny's real parents might have lost their live's due to an incident involving the Galar Mine's (Similar to Rose and Peony's circumstances) but all of that is just theory A GAME THEORY. Thanks for watching. (I'll miss ya MatPat)
Oh yeah, I would prefer if they just outright confirmed things. Again, like how Nemona name drops Clay in her conversation with Lacey. Little nods and references are cool, but give me the definitive proof at some point. I did also consider she could be adopted, we do least know that there’s an orphanage in canon because of Bede. Though, I think Penny and Nia look enough like siblings. Honestly, I feel like we might get more in Pokémon Masters at some point when they add Peony.
No. This is not speculation. It literally has a direct quote with his unique speech patterns. And he already has ine annoued with him kid. We didn't need Clay's name dropped to know Lacey was his kid.
It is literally 99% confirmed at this point. Just like how Drayton's name and hair almost completely confirmed him as a relative of Drayden and Lacey was kinda sorta hinted to be Clay's daughter by her hairpin before the DLC ever came out.
The work speculation can only go so far. Technically, Drayton being related to Drayden is speculation since I don't think it's ever mentioned. It's kinda stupid that Pokemon creates these characters with obvious relations to others but is so stingy with actual name drops but the hints they do give us are usually enough we need to connect the dots.
I remember frantically texting my friend that Rose is Penny’s uncle. I just replayed Sword, and was caught off guard by this reveal. And I figured it out after sending her a half-baked analysis of the battle of the other (and much cooler) gen 8 villain.
Same with me, I look nothing like my mother being more like my Japanese father (aside from the eyes, I got my mother's eyes) but I also look like my grandparents on my mother's side. Genetics are weird.
I think the discussion about Penny's skin tone would also have to come with the consideration that Penny is a shut-in nerd. Like most shut-ins, she's never really one who goes outside to see the light of day. Girl really lack melanation, compared to her adventour-ous sibling Peonia. In-game model Penny has a close skin tone to League Card toddler Nia, which means Nia's current skin tone has a high likelihood of being the result of accelerated melanin production due to frequent exposure to sunlight from her adventures, further emphasizing her mixed heritage.
Also it's worth noting that Nia has Pikachu earrings likely to mirror Penny's Eevee bag. In addition to them having the same eye shape, two-tone hair, and obviously the same disdain for their overbearing dad.
My take is that alternate timelines means Penny is an alternate version of Peonia. That would explain why Penny as a small child didn’t appear in Peony’s league card like Peonia did.
01:52 You make very very good points, but I still find it odd that Rose, Peony and Peonia all have medium-dark skin-tones and green eyes, while Penny has a super-pale skin-tone and grey eyes. Though, I guess it still makes sense - Rose & Peony themselves are siblings and not mixed-race so they share skin-tone and eye-color, while Penny & Peonia are mixed-race siblings so one of them looks like more like their dad and one of them looks like more their mom.
Idk why but the reveal of Penny's dad made me think of Penny from RWBY dad being Pietro The similarities are kind of funny despite difference in situations
I already appreciated Penny because she uses an entire Eeveelution team, and Eevee is my favorite Pokémon. I do have one idea to explain why she looks different from her parents and sister: Just like how Bede was confirmed to be an adopted child of Chairman Rose, I think Penny is an adopted child of Peony. It's sad to think about, but it makes sense.
I just thought that Penny had normal parents and that maybe her mother had red hair and her father blue or vice versa (although she could have also dyed it).
my headcanon is that penny is an illegitimate child of rose that peony adopted after he was sent to prison. if she was very young during the event of sword and shield then it would explain why her name never comes up during the crown tundra DLC.
Peony is cool. I want to have ultra-mega-awesome adven-tours with my future kids. It’s funny how Rose is the leader of a villainous organization in Galar and his niece Penny is the leader of a villain team in Paldea. I guess the Applin doesn’t fall far from the Trevenant.

......what are you.... OH YEAH, Rose had an evil team... Uuuh, team cosmic? Team space? Team galacti-no w8, that was the sinnoh one..... Macro cosmos! Yeah that's the one..... Honestly I remember team yell more as the evil team of Galar, and they weren't even evil, just loud punks....
@@aleksabanjevic8316 no no no, that can't be it. Mac and Cheese, yes team Mac and cheese, completely forgettable

@@aleksabanjevic8316It's creepier to face a more realistic corporation whose outfits don't scream "I'm evil!", Rose basically owned all of Galar and probably wouldn't have gotten in jail in real life cause of that, but gotta keep it child friendly I guess.
@@xlilraphx a more realistic team that doesn't scream "I'm eavil" would be good, but you can still have an iconic presence.
Would it be a stretch to say Penny's hair is a reference to Sword and Sheild colour pallet?
See, I figured it was red and blue for Pokémon in general, but the shades are very similar to SwSh, so that’s even cool.
I think Penny's hair colors are a reference to "Scarlet & Violet", since her red can be considered scarlet and her blue can be considered violet.
Wait, I just realized… Penny’s the head of Team Star. Rose is the head of Macro Cosmos. Two evil team leaders in one family?!
Also Astrophysics themed as well
Team Star wasn't evil, they were the victim's that banded together when they were being bullied and stood together to face the bullies.
Peony, Peonia, and Penny. How did no one see it??
Oh have you meat my other doughters, piney, panini, pony and polipy
Maybe the pe is silent ?
Looking away because i just noctice is when reading you comment
Probably because the word “penny” is completely different from “peony” and because not every notable human Pokémon character HAS to be named after a plant.
@@angelicwarrior118"completely different"
Pe_ny, guess which one i said the name
@@-rlmn “completely different” in definitions; I’m aware the words are spelled almost exactly the same.
Peony is the type of guy who would scream THIS ONE IS SHINY! When Penny was born
penny's my favourite of the main game trio but i was instantly about ready to throw hands over her calling peony "ultra mega annoying"
peony is a great man, i'd literally lay down my life for him
I mean you can have the coolest parents in real life but for their kids you see a lot of the time they are just unimpressed since well to them its just their parents though I mean Penny obviously loves him but yeah she seems to really like to do things on her own while her dad is a big extrovert so those two likely clash
honestly me and my parents are similar i came out a Lot paler than them both and they have peonys skin tone
lol yeah, a definitely lot more common of an occurrence. Forgot to mention, but it’s the same with my siblings also, who are all more tan than me 😅 I think we’re just used to Pokémon characters looking almost exactly alike if they’re related. Especially after Legends Arceus has ancestors and descendants being nearly one to one.
Same
My dad is technically the same race as me, but he is waaay darker than my mom, and me and my isters are all a bit paler on our mothers side. The difference between my sisters and I and our dad isn't as drastic as penny and piony, but I can still buy it
I think why penny is on that train in paldean winds maybe paldean winds storyline is before the storyline of scarlet and violet
Yeah it is, Florian and Juliana haven't arrived yet like they did in game.
Well, the final episode does show someone, very likely to be one of the SV protagonists, setting off after watching the finished academy video.
Since Chairman Rose and Penny made an appearance in Pokemon Masters Ex, I would like to see Penny and Rose interact.
Peony and Penny... the 'o' just becomes an 'n'
When I saw these parents I was like ok ok then I realized CLAY IS LACEYS FATHER AND THIS ADORABLE FAIRY TYPE USER WHAT
Someone at GameFreak saw the Dragonite Dad and Blastoise dad memes and just combined them into a character to make Peony.
Why do Penny and Peonia hate spending time with their gigachad dad?
Probably because he’s obnoxious
He's incredibly overbearing
Penny must have learned about the Paldea's LP system from Rose.
Imagine at the family reunion Penny and Rose are going back and forth about their evil teams. Just think about it like this:
Rose: Penny, how you could terrorize those bullies?!
Penny: At least I didn't, oh I don't know, unleash an alien Pokemon onto the school to solve an energy crisis 1,000 years too early!
Also, y'all think Bede would come since he was adopted by Rose?
Bede wasn't adopted by Rose. He thought of Rose as a father figure but Rose was never any more than a sponsor to him
Man they missed the gold opportunity to give the Eeveelution specialist daughter of the steel specialist a steel type Eeveelution, missed the chance.
Seems more like a need to be independent but still loving their father.
They don't hate em, just wanna be their own people. Not in the best way, but they're teenagers/middle schoolers. Can't say we weren't edgy assholes at that time!
Let's also not forget that Peony was controlled by a legendary as well.
You know, it makes more sense that Penny is Peony's daughter. The names are really similar, plus I never understood why Penny had grey hair on the back of her head until now
Wow, she skipped the Melanin.
Her mother is white
@@professorpengu502 Still, her mother has a human skin tone. Penny is extremely pale because she stays inside all the time.
Not sure if that means she has naturally black hair or if they just didn't want to color her eyebrows differently.
what do you mean heavily implied, who else would call it an adventour
As overbearing as Peony may be, he definitely deserves more love
Also, the whole thing about Peony and Penny not being the same skin tone makes sense when you look at Peonia being paler than Peony too.
Penny and Peonia's mom is prolly just pasty asf, making her skin tone more apparent in the kids.
Yeah but penny lacks any melanin at all…. Despite being in a very sunny region where people would be more tan Penny is paler than pale…,
@@benjaminacuna8013 To be fair, she is a shut in who stays in her dorm all day
@@benjaminacuna8013Doesn't matter how sunny a region is if you seldom touch its rays.
Penny being Peony's kid is ultra-mega-awesome
Don’t know if I just missed it somewhere in the video but it’s basically straight up confirmed in Penny’s call with her dad. He said “Adven-tour”, the same thing he says to Peonia in Crown Tundra
So Penny’s dad is the coolest man in Galar. Makes sense.
...Penny and Chairman Rose being relatet explains why she went fore the over the top way of handling Team Star instead of ding it the easey way and just calling them, explaining the situation and telling them to stop
When you look at Peony eyes when they're closed they look like Melli's more than the mother...oh
I am liking the newer game introduced family member, ansetor and extension character for existing character
penny to the V/S main character : Yo your mom is hot-
I feel like me and peony can pass as the same person, even if I don’t express myself that often I do have the overwhelming dad energy sometimes
Just know that we have always been fatherless…except for Gen 3.
Do you guys think our characters dad regret their decision of leaving us when we become champion of the whole region?
Remind me of the goofy movie with max wanting to grow while goofy still wants to be part of his son's life through a trip
Weird coincidence but that's parenting for ya
When I first found out the Penny was from Galer and found out her dad is overprotective the first person that came to mind was Peony I was generally surprised at my theory that the two of them were related were right but at first I didn’t believe myself but then I realize that she probably got her looks from her mother like it’s kind of same for me and my parents I look like my dad and my sister looks like my mom while we look nothing alike
If we ever get a third dlc penny should mention how her uncle tried to “save” her previous region
Also their disdain for him seems to come across as just teenage girls not being fond of their father being too involved in their lives, especially since Penny is a shy and awkward shut-in while Peony is a boisterous energetic explorer, I don't think Peony actually understands Penny as well as he understands Peonia but he's trying (and failing partly), unfortunately Penny is more annoyed with his attempts.
imagine how awkward family gatherings r...
Okay, so tin-foil hat time:
The theory that Penny is Peony’s daughter existed before the DLC came out; I remember seeing it on Reddit a while back.
And also how Peonia has Pikachu earrings, Penny has the whole Eevee thing going on
The work speculation can only go so far.
Oh my gosh! This blows my mind!
The fact that Penny and Peonia are sisters!
In-game model Penny has a close skin tone to League Card toddler Nia, which means Nia's current skin tone has a high likelihood of being the result of accelerated melanin production due to frequent exposure to sunlight from her adventures, further emphasizing her mixed heritage.
i call my cat pen pen (short for penny)
She should have had a steel type eeveelution
I can imagine penny getting a call from rose in prison
Also it's worth noting that Nia has Pikachu earrings likely to mirror Penny's Eevee bag. In addition to them having the same eye shape, two-tone hair, and obviously the same disdain for their overbearing dad.
Running evil teams run in the family
I had my suspicions, given her dialogue in Area Zero
Oh that’s so weird now 🤣. And now has me questioning things more in Pokémon 🤔
That's my penny lol her, Larry, and Geeta are my favorite characters
I THOUGHT SO!! I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I'M SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I LOVE THE CROWN TUNDRA SO MUCH
Penny can be Adopted
Idk why but the reveal of Penny's dad made me think of Penny from RWBY dad being Pietro
The similarities are kind of funny despite difference in situations
I already appreciated Penny because she uses an entire Eeveelution team, and Eevee is my favorite Pokémon. I do have one idea to explain why she looks different from her parents and sister:
Just like how Bede was confirmed to be an adopted child of Chairman Rose, I think Penny is an adopted child of Peony. It's sad to think about, but it makes sense.
"whose goddamn white baby is that"-Peony
2:24 I’m thinking she got her hair from her dad since she has black eyebrows
I just thought that Penny had normal parents and that maybe her mother had red hair and her father blue or vice versa (although she could have also dyed it).
Or it could a trait inherited from a different family member.
Key word here is "implied", not "confirmed"... next time it will be confirmed that Nessa is Nemona's sister.
she states that the flying taxi were she is form is Corviknight and guess what the Galar region uses the pokemon Corviknight
as their flying taxi
Of course
my headcanon is that penny is an illegitimate child of rose that peony adopted after he was sent to prison. if she was very young during the event of sword and shield then it would explain why her name never comes up during the crown tundra DLC.
What would've been like if all regions were in one game? While as small as cities like in the 1997 Spaceworld Demo.
Bold of you to assume the Switch hardware can handle that. XD
oh well, guess chairman wasn't the father
although it would have been funny if he also said stuff like "adven-tours" when he isn't in public
i like to imagine the moms name is penelope
Peony is cool. I want to have ultra-mega-awesome adven-tours with my future kids. It’s funny how Rose is the leader of a villainous organization in Galar and his niece Penny is the leader of a villain team in Paldea. I guess the Applin doesn’t fall far from the Trevenant.
