One thing I think is a pretty common overlap with these "villains" are their intentions and ambitions taking them too far.
The professor got so engrossed in the studies of the past and future, it left them neglectful and careless, ultimately leading to their passing.
Keiran loved Ogrepon to the point of feeling entitled to its companionship and not respecting what Ogrepon actually wants. He then wished to be the strongest but after the events of Kitakami became obsessed with it and beating us and not caring about anyone/anything else.
Briar really wanted to unlock Terapagos and unleash it's true power, not realizing the possible danger of awakening such a legend until it was too late.
Hell even Pecharunt wanted the happiness of his caretakers which lead to all of Ogrepon's emotional damage.

Bro, Carmine is the real villain. The mc and Carmine literally bullied Kieran. We could've helped him but we never did.
We just showed up one day in kitakami, and stole ogrepon from Kieran despite how attached Kieran was, and grew up loving ogrepon even when he didn't know.
Sure, ogrepon chose us for gameplay, but honestly we should've given it to him.

    • @castform7
      @castform7 9 месяцев назад +12

@@cheesewrap I feel like a lot of people don't remember why we didn't tell Kieran. That wasn't Carmine's decision, it was her grandfather. He didn't believe Kieran would keep his mouth shut at this point in his life and feared that what would happen to his ancestor would happen to him. Plus I don't feel like Kieran is entitled to Ogrepon just because he believed (based off, at the time, 0 evidence) Ogrepon at the endcof the day is the one who gets to choose and it chose us. I'm not saying Kieran isn't allowed to be angry and when it comes to Carmine, yeah she was a terrible sister and only cared when Kieran was starting his edgy arc but I think both situations have more nuance than "we were the worst people ever and bullied Kieran. He deserves everything".

I wanna add Raifort to the mix, since she is basically Naranja Academy's version of Briar, but for the Ruinous Four instead. She gave me morally dubious, self serving vibes. Like if this were a fantasy magic school novel, she'd be the one using us, the top student in her class and skilled mage, as a pawn to fufill her ambition when it comes to the legends. Honestly wish they did more with them, but hey, they almost never do with the extra legends.

The one who walked up to him and called him ex champion and told him that was Drayton. also the whole reason they were in that club in the first place was because of Drayton. we learn we’re not supposed to sign up being exchanged exchange student, but Kieran is the one that allows us. What I like abiut Kieran is the fact that he is no longer shy and weak.
He turned strong, arrogant and toxic due to being too competitive.
But at the end of the DLC, he is strong yet now gentle. He understands that he can still have fun with battles without being too competitive about winning.
In the clubroom if you rematch him. He still smiles even if you beat him and he stated that he will one day try to reclaim the champion title one day and he is working on trying to get along again with others. Especially with Drayton whom he antagonized the most.

to be fair, Drayton was a lazy slacker that burdens the rest of the club, and a toxic manipulator. I would say all these “villains” would be classified as antagonists instead. I was kinda hoping Briar was gonna be the surprise villain that she was gonna catch Terapagos and her motive was to clear her family name after all the shame/humiliation Heath faced would’ve made sense. I’m happy we didn’t get a traditional villain in this game since it was an emotional journey. I do hope we get a real villain again in the next game whether it be another organization or a solo villain like Volo.

    • @BJGvideos
      @BJGvideos 5 месяцев назад

True. They were very complex people and there's always the lingering question of if they could have changed. After all, they died to save a loved one, so if they had survived could they have realized what the AI was saying all along? Or would they have doubled down on it and only gotten worse, fueled by their brush with death making them realize that time is short? And honestly both are equally likely, and we can never truly know what could have been.

And of course they give up their copy of Heath's book, something the professor in our world never did.
Haha I'm doing a fic right now where Hoopa pulls the AIs and now the Gadgeteer group has to get them functional again. It was going to be a much more lighthearted fic until Penny was added and of course that's the group she's in so now she's got anxiety over "will that program take over again", and thoughts about her own family, and a bunch of stuff.

    The true villain was... Us.
If not for us, none of Professor's ambitions would've ever happened. We gave Professor the White Book, which told Professor everything she needed to know about creating the Time Machine, which in turn created the Time Loop Paradox, and thus created every single problem, from Arven being lonely to an out of control Paradox Pokemon threatening to destroy the world.
If not for us, Kieran would've been the same kid. We're some stranger from a far away place. Our arrival is directly tied to Ogerpon having contact with another person since we're new. Because of this, Ogrepon is vulnerable and when Carmine surprises her, she drops her mask. We lie to Kieran because Carmine thought it best, which in turn leads him to start investigating what really happened. When he finds out we met his hero and lied about it, he becomes the literal embodiment of the "IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME! NOT HIM!" meme and starts a crusade to crush us to prove himself to Ogrepon. When Ogrepon becomes our friend and not his, he snaps, wanting to prove himself more and more to the world and show everyone that he, not us, is the best around. And as a side note, many of us didn't need his help against Terapagos. Only had 1 faint in this battle and I'm sure I could've solo'd it without Carmine and/or Kieran. Once again, playing with his emotions. But I guess he learned he could never defeat my team of 6 Arceus and gave up his ambition, which is nice.
Finally, if not for us, Briar would've never had the opportunity to go to Area Zero. Through our actions in potentially saving Paldea from Paradox Pokemon, we showed the League that Area Zero needs to be investigated. At the risk of sounding like a certain Professor... If we had let nature take it's course, Paldea would've destroyed, and various Leagues from around the world would've been sent in to quarantine the area, forever sealing off any hopes Briar had at finding Terapagos.
I'm not saying what we did was done maliciously, but we ARE "patient zero". We're the linchpin, the thing that caused everything.

That professor is not ous (our univrese/timeline) to begin with. If we put together their diary entries from Area 0 and what that professor tells us it does not match:
      - Ours invented the time machine first and brougth a koraidon before they knew they were expentin Arven. Kitakami pool professor already had a son that can be left alone, no time machine and no koraidoin.
      - They GAVE US the book we use to stop the time machine. We know it's the same book because of the written name.
      - The Underdepths area 0 jorunals mention a child but no word of giving us the scarlet/violet book nor the presence of koraidon.

    • @SealFormulaMaster
      @SealFormulaMaster 9 месяцев назад +5

@@Lionwoman While I'm a fan and believer of the Multiverse theory (This is something I've believed since ORAS), but I need to point a few things out.
1: We don't have a proper timeframe yet. How old is Arven? When did the Professor die? Was the Professor actually in Area Zero when we pulled them from the Pools? While it's easy enough to assume Arven had someone watching him growing up, that might not be the case. Pokemon is a world where a 9 year old is 2 feet tall and for some reason is allowed to live in the schools dorm rooms. That same 9 year old also has creatures that can harness elemental powers. I can name several instances where a Pokemon cared for a Human in nearly all canons. He has Mabosstiff for protection, plus whatever the Professor had at the house, and whatever technology the Professor had installed. Arven could easily live alone at a young age.
2: If we believe the Professor we pulled from the Pools isn't our Professor, the book also cannot be ours as our copy of the book was lost when the AI used the Time Machine. If the Professor is Turo, the book is somewhere in the future, be in our future or a Multiversal future, meaning the Turo we pulled could not have had our book, it would've had to have been his universes book. This only works if the Professor is Sada, as she goes to the past. The book could've been preserved somehow long enough for Heath to find it, then create "his own version" of it. Also, the name doesn't mean much. While it's true that in a Multiverse there are multiple possibilities, including ones that alter the very fabric of who you would be in your universe, a name is a name is a name. Sada would write her name down as Sada, and Turo would write down his name as Turo. Maybe it's a nickname, maybe it's shortened, whatever the case my be, the name remains the same.
3: The first two notes are on Terapagos and Stellar Type. Combined with the previous Area Zero Lab books, we know the Professor writes about one thing per entry, so it's pretty normal for the Professor to not mention the Raidon since s/he is making note of where they appeared and the potential why. Not mentioning the trade in an academic paper also isn't that unusual, though I would question the morality of it since it's common practice to list donors in an academic paper. But given their disregard for the ecological balance of the modern world, I'm not shocked if they did this.
Now like I said, I do believe we're in a Multiverse. But it doesn't change much of the outcome, as our character from another universe would still be our character. While our actions might not affect our universe, it will affect another, and more than likely cause that universe to experience what we experienced.

To be honest, I hated Briar more than I did Kieran. Sure Kieran acted entitled to Ogrepon, but part of him was still sympathetic, considering we’re forced to lie to him. And while he is immature, he is still a kid. Additionally he does redeem himself in the epilogue by helping you out.
Briar on the other hand has no excuse. At least with Kieran being a kid, he didn’t know any better about the consequences of Terapagos. Briar is a grown ass adult, who endangered her students by having Kieran use Terapagos and was so too blinded by her selfishness. Her apology felt really half-assed and I do not feel any sympathy for her.

Kieran isn't a villain so much as he is a misunderstood vulnerable autistic coded kid with trust and self-esteem issues. He's deluded himself into believing he's worthless due to years of being bullied, and then being lied to by his first ever real friend, which causes him to snap.
He then develops a line of thinking that if he just gets strong enough, he'll be given the respect he deserves, as to be fair, he has been taken advantage of for most of his life, and therefore, given the circumstances, it's understandable why he develops this delusion.
It's not his fault the way he ends up. He was constantly failed by the people around him.
This line of thinking can't be broken by Drayton's tough love, as it just makes him spiral further down the spiral of self-hatred. The player uplifting him however, makes him break out of it.
Also what happened with Terapagos was 10000% Briar's fault. She is the adult in this situation, she should be supervising over Kieran and the player, not manipulating Kieran into terrastilising Terapagos using her authority as a teacher and almost getting him killed.
His autism coding isn't talked about nearly enough, and his constant demonisation for his autistic traits honestly leans into ableism.

All honesty it could be said in a way that we (the player character) are the villains of this story in a way but not by malicious intent. When we enter the cutscene to see the real professor in a temparol time paradox and set them on their path by trading the books and basically launching the story anew in another timeline. I mean that is one perspective but I wonder what everyone else thinks here.
The thing I'm more interested in is in the Untold Story of Pecharunt, they made it clear that it came from from a faraway land like this is a set up for the next games, I mean you can't just say from a faraway land and think no one will ask specifically where, in the untold story (accompanied by lovely water art) it seems as though the setting could be from Johto (or a region yet unheard off as of now) but my theory is that it will the head subject Pokémon Day's Pokémon Presents direct.

I still feel like Kieran despite the bad things he's done, wqs pretty justified in the way he was thinking.
He was all alone until we came along, but we lied to and betrayed him. Befriending Ogerpon was his childhood dream, and we took that away from him.
And the fact that he was entitled to Ogerpon is just straight up false. People seem to forget he was just fine with letting her go back to her cave.
He started objecting when Ogerpon wanted to join our character. Because we betrayed him, he doesn't believe that we're trustworthy and that we'll take good care of her.
He doesn't want to catch her because he wants her for himself. He opposes us because he thinks we don't deserve Ogerpon, and he has good reasons to think that in my opinion.
But because of his loneliness, and Carmine's mental abuse (and some of her dialogue hints at physical abuse too), he was forced to repress his emotions.
But our character's actions were what caused him to be unable to keep repressing his emotions any longer (he repressed them for years), and his emotions exploded.
That's why he's the way he is in the Indigo. The anger, frustration and pain that Carmine's abuse forced him to keep inside for years are now outside. He can't hold them in anymore.
But we can clearly see he still has insecurities, like when he says to the random club member that if you're no good in battle, then you're not worth it (or something around those lines).
This is clearly him projecting his insecurities onto others, because us crushing him all the time caused him to think that way.
We took the few things he had left to make him want to keep going and crushed them. And we do that again when we take his Champion title from him.
At this point he's desperate. He has nothing left. Terapagos is his only chance to make things right (in his eyes) and finally beat us.
But in Area Zero, we save his life, proving to him that we do care, and after that he can't move because he realizes the mistake he's made and he feels like if he just takes a step, he'll make everything worse again.
And at the end, he apologizes. Carmine, this is partially her fault, but not once does she apologize, even though she should.

Idk, Kieran’s time as blueberry proved that he needed Carmine or us as the player as friends or he would become a literal manifestation of insecurities.
Like as much as I didn’t like Carmine in TM, she was right about him having an ego.

I assume the physical abuse line is:
"I WAS being nice! It's not like I hit him or anything!"
      Correct?
I'm pretty sure her saying that was just in response to being scolded by her grandfather (presumably for the first time.)
Something like: "You're acting like I hit him or something!" Would be a better way to put it.
Not to defend her there, that was absolutely uncalled for when she told him to get lost.
Or if you're referring to the line:
"Watch who you call dummy if you know what's good for you!"
To me, that's standard sibling talk. I know not everyone has siblings like that but from general experience it isn't anything more than an empty threat. If she was shown to actually not like her little brother I could see why it may indicate physical violence, but Carmine is shown to love him more than anything, implied by several of her lines.
I don't think Carmine has it in her to actually hit Kieran, or anyone for that matter. She's all talk.
Her issue, in my eyes, is how overprotective she is. She doesn't want to lose Kieran because she herself is quite lonely. She straight up admits to that, actually. So, she resorts to shielding him away from anything that might take him from her. (Albiet that point gets kind of lost in translation during the Teal Mask, where she conpletely ditches him for us, but that's an issue with the writers.) Her lie is not justified but I would argue it is within reason. At that point in the story she'd never forgive herself if she let her younger brother get maimed or killed in the dangerous mountains of Kitakami. She doesn't know Ogerpon is friendly and still believes it to be a bloodlusting tyrant.
You can tell she feels terrible about lying way before she tries to apologize to him. She questions whether she overthought it, and then during the scene where the grandfather tells them not to say anything to Kieran, she slumps over with guilt on her face and says:
"Now I REALLY can't tell Kiki..."
Speaking of Ogerpon, why does everyone seem to ignore Ogerpon's feelings? Even Carmine was able to realise that it too, is a living being capable of independant thinking. It bonded with the main character and went with them. Where's the issue in that? I get that spending your whole life obsessing over a creature you can truly relate to would feel like you earned the right to own it, but in the end, Ogerpon wants a trainer she can trust.
It might sound harsh, but Kieran's feelings here just don't matter. Ogerpon made her choice, Kieran insisting on keeping her probably just freaked her out further and if anything squandered his chance of getting to know her. That's his own fault.
And I'm sorry, but no amount amount of mental abuse makes it acceptable or justifiable to do what he went and did/tried to do in the Indigo Disk.
I'm not going to villainise him for lashing out and bottling up his emotions, of course. But with that being said, he is not in the right (I kind of get the feeling that's what the original comment was trying to say.)
Kieran puts a lot of trust in Carmine, something I don't believe he would have if she abused him physically. He often hides behind her for comfort, even one time in the Indigo Disk. He doesn't flinch when she shakes her fists.
Kieran's biggest influence is the Main character. Of whom I find to be a power-hungry, gluttonous menace. Seriously, we cause so many issues just by doing main character things. For WHAT reason do we need to catch Terapagos in front of him just like we did with Ogerpon? We acknowledge that he was upset by us taking Ogerpon, and yet we repeated history, regardless of whether he gave us permission.
I mean, when you get Carmine down to her last Pokemon she says "I'll wipe that smirk off your face!"
Smirk! We're taking pleasure in subjugating those around us. And since Kieran wants to be like us... he's also going to mimic that power-hungry, sly demeanour we have. Which is exactly what happens.
Forget Carmine, we're the one who had a major impact on him.

    • @WildWeavile
      @WildWeavile 9 месяцев назад +3

@@Oceane1803Idk, he had people who liked him, but he never reached out to them because he was scared of them not liking him or Carmine scared them off. She did say she was a TAD bit protective of him, so she might have shoved off people like idk... Drayton who she most likely didn't see fit of being his friends.
What I got from Kieran's interactions with us in Kitakami before the lie, he seemed to want friends but didn't know how to get them. That is why Carmine pairs him up with us with the hope of having Kieran step out of his comfort zone to make friends back at school:
Like Crispin seems cool with him, Drayton enjoyed the fact that Kieran didn't care that his Pokemon were weaker than everyone else's. He was just vibing, and Amarys liked the timid but thoughtful boy he used to be.
It wasn't till he returned from Kitakami with the idea of "might make a right" that jaded his perspective of poke battling. That Crispin and Lacey didn't want to be around him, meanwhile Amarys and Drayton wanted to help him.
