  • This video shows the installation of some sound deadening mat and new carpet in a 1956 T-bird. The mat used was the KilMat brand which is similar to DynaMat, Second Skin Audio, etc.

Great job Mr. Shaw. I installed mine a few weeks ago, it came out great, I do need to steam it though and maybe use some glue. It came preformed, I trimmed it to the exact size as the old one and it fits perfect. However, I still have a few spots that need to be pressed down. Steam? Or should I go back under and apply glue? Thanks in advance!!

If the steam works, that should do it. Otherwise, some glue would be in order. Thanks for watching and I'm glad yours turned out well.

Great video. I'm getting ready to install new carpet in my 1972 Corvette. Can you tell me the make and model of your steamer? I looked on Sharper Image but not see the one you are using.

Sure, thanks for watching the video. Mine is a Sharper Image "Compact Garment Steamer" model CA876 GS5. It is 20 years old, so they probably don't make this exact one anymore.

@@DickShaw The reason I ask about your steamer is I bought my 1972 Corvette from a friend of mine. He bought all new interior for the car in June of 2020 including cutpile carpet from ACC but never installed any of it and the carpet has been in the box sonce then so I'm thinking I may need to use a steamer on it to get it to lay properly. That is one sharp T-bird!!

Another thing that will help is to get it out of the box and laid out for a couple weeks before installing and if you can lay it in the sun as much as possible it will help it to relax, making it easier to install.

Hello, thanks for watching. I bought the Kilmat from a seller on ebay. Look for the best price for the quantity you need. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=kilmat&_sacat=0
