  • In this video, we compile footage we have taken on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from August to October 2023 including their 50th Anniversary Steam Gala featuring footage of 9 different locomotives all compiled into random order.
Such as (In order of appearance)
60007 Sir Nigel Gresley (Visiting from the mainline)
9F 92214 (Visiting from the Great Central Railway)
    9F 92134
Std 4 Tank 80136 (Also seen as scrapped sister loco 80116)
    Black Five 5428 Eric Treacy
    J27 / P3 2392
Std 4 4-6-0 75069 (Visiting from the Severn Valley Railway)
    Lambton Tank No 29
Caledonian 439 Class 55189 (Visiting from the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway)
    Footage taken from dates
Saturday 19th August (In between seeing 55009 Alycidon on The Deltic Coronation)
Friday 22nd September & Saturday 23rd September at the 50th Anniversary Gala
Sunday 22nd October during a 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley Running Day
    Highlights include:
    9F double headers with 92214 & 92134
Fantastic sounds from Black Five 5428 Eric Treacy
60007 Sir Nigel Gresley putting on some great displays, in particular at Darnholme on 22nd September
The rare sight of J27 / P3 2392 in LNER lined black, this being a rare sight due to her returning to BR black as 65894 in early 2024!
    Reasoning for this video:
As we were originally intending to upload a video from Friday 22nd of the gala but as we arrived at Darnholme to film the 9F doubleheader coming down the hill in the car we met a van and had to reverse back up unfortunately breaking the clutch meaning we were stranded all day at Darnholme from around 9:30am to 4:30pm we were hanging around 7 hours waiting for the RAC and taxi to collect us.
So top tip for anyone reading this, don't sign up to the RAC!
So apart from that we just tried getting what we could that day and decided to return in October to capture 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley as a redemption day which went sort of well but was also a bit chaotic. Whilst deciding to capture 9F 92134 on the pullman service we got the car stuck in mud as we parked up on grass! Thankfully though as we were leaving a scout group were walking passed and helped us rescue the car.... it took 10 people just to move to prove how bad it was!
So it's safe to say we shall not be returning to Darnholme for a long while...
So a lot of chaos and a hefty price to pay on the clutch later we have a 25 min long steam compilation filmed over four different days and 3 different months!
Last but not least some big THANK YOUs go to Lewis Shields for sharing his footage from 22nd & 23rd September, without him this video would probably have been binned
Ross & Owen for allowing us to go to some locations with them
Tom from Enterprise Cars for being so good in sorting us out a hire car to get home from York
And the scout group for helping us rescue the stuck car at Darnholme on 22nd October!
We hope you enjoy what we have gathered together for this compilation and certainly hope our next visits to the NYMR are a lot kinder!

Another great video that brings back great memories from my visit there last year for their Autumn Steam Gala. Decided not to go this year but this video makes me want to return next year.

Thanks very much, Alistair glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully, they've got some good events to look forward to this year. It's great to see that they've got Britannia visiting in February :)

Just been for a ride on the NYMR. It’s quite soggy at Fen Bog!
Amazing to think trains have been running through that swamp jungle for 180 years.

Thanks to George Stephenson's brilliant idea on how the railway can run over Fen Bog. With Heather, sheep skins and tree trunks to make the formation of the trackbed.

Did some of these trains have steam brakes? Or was that steam carriage heating? How come the exhaust smoke is so clean? Even Kiwi Locos were blacker. I guess these were still on coal and not oil.

The sheep have seen it all before, definitely not NZ as they still have tails.
