- How to win tennis matches? In this video, I'm going to highlight four things that I believe are really important: that if you do improve them, it will help you get better results and win more matches. My goal is not to make you a better hitter is to make you a better player to win more and have more fun. Let’s become better players, not better hitters.

A great tennis player you must become. I have spoken!
Footwork is your best friend in tennis. If you get to the ball in time you can have a clean hit without the need for adapting on the fly. Imo the best example is the one handed backhand, the simplest hit when it comes to the kinetic chain. As long as you make it to the ball in time and hit it at the proper height you get the easiest shot to make in tennis. You get there late, you set up badly then you have to improvise from you wrist or worse from your elbow and you're gonna screw it up every time

The first point you made about needing to hit better shots when you hit with players that are at a higher skill level is very accurate. I always tried to set up practices with players that were more skilled. Also my foot work and speed were a big asset in being able to stay in the rallies. Hitting deep is probably one of the most important factors in staying in a point. Being able to move the ball around me hit consistently off of both sides will help you win points.

I really liked what you said there, "it is ok to hit short, once in a while!". My view is that to every strategy there is a counter strategy and it all depends on your opponent. Even if one tries and is mostly successful at keeping the ball deep, if you do it all of the time your opponent can easily step 3-4 steps back and your deep balls would not be a problem any more all you are left with is the high risk of hitting the ball long. That is exactly what Medvedev, Thiem and all those guys do by standing 5-6 feet behind the base line, they neutralizes their opponent's deep balls because even if their opponents are successful at hitting the ball 1 foot from the baseline it is still 7-8 feet away from them. So I think it is not only ok to hit short once in a while, it is necessary. A better advice would be vary your ball depth, and do it intentionally.
Man the first two tips (footwork and depth) are the two parts of my game that I’ve been wanting to improve on and I think they are definitely underrated advice. I’m sold, you got my sub and I’ll check out your footwork video.

Karue...I love how you make things simple...don't hit 2 short balls in a row such an easy concept during matchplay...thru your vids I used problem-solving to help me get to the finals of a recent tournament when before I would have lost...such a break thru for me to win close matches...thank you...I can be your video hitting partner for 3.5 level...utr of 4.5...I keep buying using your links...lets support MYTHQ!!!!

I suspect e.g. Top Tennis Training is probably just better for beginners, and your videos are better for later on, but I conveniently found their videos as a beginner 2.5 years ago, and your videos more recently, and it seems to have helped a lot to use them in that order.

Late comment but love the idea where you slow down the match play and put your comments on top, in this case explaining what is happening but you could also use this to help inexperienced tactical players understand how a pro sees the court and the opponent, plus of course, shot selection based on this. Maybe you've done this already, beyond what you did here. Good stuff.

Some great advice here! I'm guilty of over complicating the game and making my patterns far too complicated. But listening to your video has,definitely set a light bulb off in my head to keep things far more simple and just focus on good depth, variety and quality footwork.

Invaluable advise this... Thanks Karue. Also I would like to add that playing well on clay accentuates the necessity to perform these 4 steps even further. Hit them clay courts and dont be afraid of the pushers.

Karue great tips as always. Could you make a video about how to attack different balls and teach us more about the approach shot in general. For example a high ball (shoulder level and above) with no pace between the T and the baseline and shorter top spin ball that lands inside the T but still has some speed spin and height or a slower and shorter ball below the net. Your video about how to handle heavy top spin was really helpful showing and explaining in great depth the right technique the slow mo and everything.

A simple good and applicable video. What would be good to see would be your and/or Marcos Giron's on court footwork, fitness or sprinting exercises. That is what drills you or he do

No doubt about it--footwork is absolutely essential. However, good footwork doesn't mean much if you fail to predict accurately where the ball is going on your side of the court, how fast it is traveling, how high it is going to bounce on your side of the court and what kind of spin it has. When we have to lean unnecessarily toward or away from the ball we automatically blame our footwork when the problem may be that we didn't correctly predict where the ball was going to be as it approached us. Better footwork won't fix this problem. Only lots of experience and innate aptitude will refine our ball predictive skills to a high level. So we should discriminate footwork problems from ball prediction problems and then apply the right solution.

Being a better hitter doesn't always mean u win more matches. I hit really well my last match overall but vs an opponent I destroyed before I almost lost simply cause of footwork, I felt heavy and slow
