AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN : great lesson, eloquently explained, wonderful tips, VERY useful strategies ... YOU'RE SIMPLY THE BEST, Ryan - thank you for this - because of YOU ... we got this !
These are great tips for matches at my level, thank you, essentially they're a game plan and following them has improved my results and enjoyment of matches massively, of course I still lose to better players but they have to beat me, I don't beat myself! 😀 1. Get high percentage of your 1st serves in. 2. Return serve back direct at server. 3. At baseline be on opposite side to opponent. 4. At net be on same side as opponent. 5. Hit Baseline rallies cross court. 6. At net Hit Volleys short. 7. When Opponent comes to net hit low shot at them.
This is my third time watching this video. I've had a busy summer of tournaments every week and have watched many videos for singles strategy. This is by far the simplest to implement and has gotten me through many tough matches. I am now purely winning on these strategies, not having time to improve my technique whatsoever. Thank you sooooo much!
Wow this awesome to hear. Thanks for watching the video so many times and for trusting the strategies. Glad they’re helping you and that they’re working. Keep up the great work and you got this!
Coach Ryan, you’re a tennis genius. I could literally listen to you teach day! So simple, easy to follow and apply. Thank you for taking the time to invest in our development.
ever since i've started watching your videos, i have won a lot more matches, even against oppenents i thought i could never beat. Thank you so much for sharing these amazing tips !!!
I enjoy how simple, concise, and detailed you communicate your teaching. There are SO MANY ways to misinterpret most vague instructions in tennis. You do a great job explaining, showing, and answering the most common questions!
This is the best video I have seen. I understand where to stand in singles now. I have a singles match tonight I will try to remember these points to hit my returns. Thanks
Hit a top spin, short ball at your opponent ‘s feet is my favorite shot, called “dipping” that I mastered long time ago but never thought about it. Thanks 🙏 so much for your tips.
Thank's for emphasizing this, I can't wait to try this out together with Ryan's last tip because trying to "avoid" the player heading towards the net has been a losing strategy for me.
Great basics, Ryan. Make your first serve, service returns to the middle, recover bisecting the return triangle, jam up the rushing opponent at the service line. Very few club players practice to cover the long volley/half-volley hit to their body at the service line, a very effective offensive shot to set up the easy put away.
14:07 why would the opponent attack, he will just give a short ball and make me run as you discussed for me to do in the previous strategy when I'm near the net
Great lesson: I was always trying to avoid my oponent when they come to the net, but now I tried to hit low right into them and they missed most of it and they where getting frustrated ... Thank you for your lessons, great tips, great presentation, you are the best!
This video is fantastic, just like all your other videos, but I wonder if, rather than saying "this is where you should stand", you said "this is where you should split step" it would help players even more.
Hey I love your content! Want to point out one thing: instead of standing right in the middle for crosscourt rally, you need to be slightly more towards the crosscourt side, away from downtheline side.. reason being, the opponent is more likely to send the ball to the crosscourt side
1. Don’t get out-rallied 2. Don’t get out rallied 3. Don’t get out rallied 4. Don’t get out rallied 5. Don’t get out rallied 6. Don’t get out rallied 7. Don’t get out rallied

Thank you for those great tips. I am learning to play tennis without an actual coach by watching your videos and putting your knowledge into practice. Cheers from Madrid, Spain
all these tips are worth implementing.. but more questions arise :) for example.. How long should one continue rallying cross court? (ie when to change it for hitting down the line? and how to change - using high or low balls? using slice or topspin balls) 2. when is it worth to run around your backhand and hit forehand (of course if it's better) 3. is it better to hit balls on the rise or move back and hit dropping balls ? or maybe to shift from time ti time between those attitudes
Hey thanks for the questions. Simply put, following these ideas helps you play better. Of course there are times to deviate. Most players don’t struggle with deviation. They struggle sticking to basics that help them win. I like teaching the basics with my videos, as the more complex strategy theories tend to be more “entertaining for the video purposes only” instead of being actual implementable by rec players. Players don’t lose matches because they don’t know when to deviate, they lose matches bc they don’t stick to basics enough.

Hello Ryan, I see the advantages of the crosscourt-ball in the rally. But there is one obvious thing, that speaks in my opinion against it: most players have their weaker side on the backhand. So when you want to give those opponents some heavy time on their backhand, on the forehand side, you have to play longline.

@@2MinuteTennis was a great game, but I lost. I won the first set 6-3, but then the dude started playing insanely good. Final score was: 6-3, 2-6, 6-7.
Thanks for videos: they are all amazing and I try to learn and practice your suggestions to improve my tennis from them. Why don't you consider the lob of the opponent in tip 3? I often go to the net, but deeper is my attack shot more lobs i have to face. So, i use to attack, split step just inside the service area (to the part of the attack shot, as you suggest), but i'm in trouble due lobs.. I have to run back and start my rally again. Maybe I finish my run and flip-step too close the net. Can I have some suggestions? Thanks in advance.i'm talking about club matches.
Hey Ryan, good job on this video! Right here you have probably all the strategic information you'll ever need for your entire club singles career. I especially liked the last point on "hitting AT the rushing net player"! Excellent. You're so right, we all try (and fail, spectacularly) to hit the highlight reel passing shot and gift yet another point to our opponents. Just hit it AT 'em! Half the time they'll flub it up. Beautiful. And oh so true. I'm keepin' that one. Thanks Ryan, keep up the good work - JD, Canada
Hey Ryan, really love your video. Took lots of notes and applied your strategies to my last 4 matches in the tournament. Sadly haven’t won yet. But I’m going to keep trying. I have trouble keeping my lead in a game/ set.
Return down the middle is a great idea. Less margin for error, over lower part of the net. I think first down the middle, then down the middle beyond the service line, then deep down the middle. Try to progress to deep down the middle, because short middle = trouble. (short anything means trouble).
I’m so disappointed in this video - it was not 2 minutes?! KIDDING - this is awesome, I’m new to your channel and I will do my best to employ these strategies tomorrow when I play! Thank you!
Great lesson here. Positioning and footwork knowledge is rarely taught this easily understood. Now I can just forget everything you said and do it all wrong again. :). Hopefully I remember this! Thanks again.
Hitting the return at the middle is a misnomer. Never ever worked for me. Even if I hit a deep one, it always comes back with interest. Angles are always good for me.
Great video. Any suggestions for tweaking my forehand technique in order to hit more crosscourt shots? I'm unintentionally hitting too many down the line and they're either sailing long or going into the net.Thx.
The split court positioning idea is only half true, cuz you forget to take in your best or preferred side of hand, and that'd be the forehand side for most people, they can run the ball down and also react to the shot a lot more at ease than the other side, therefore the split should be 6/4 favoring the non-preferred side if that makes sense
Hello Rayan ! Could you pls to make a video about the ball machines . I face difficulties to find a partner . I think about buying a ball machine . I'm sorry my english is not perfect
3:00 maybe actually stand in the center because the diagonal ball you see coming earlier so you can react with a bit more time than the down the line shot edit: although with pro tennis players they hit still hit it really fast so I suppose you do need more time with that
I think the corollary to the two shot pass idea would be to come to the net more often yourself. The fact that so many rec players are intimidated by their opponent at the net shows that it’s a good idea to sharpen up one’s own net game and use it more often.

when you say "stand slightly on the opposite side your opponent is on" (except reversed at the net), don't you really mean, "stand slightly on the opposite side of the court to where you just put the ball"? your opponent and the ball are not always connected
I had some intuition that hitting cross court was usually the better option with singles, but I love your breakdown of all the reasons why it's the best default option.
Fantastic video - I've learnt so much and look forward to implementing these strategies. 1. Get high % of 1st serves in. May need to aim to middle, drop speed, add spin. If not hitting aces then no reason to have high pace. 2. Preplan that returns of 1st serve go down middle. Double faulting is no diff to missing a return of serve. (Who tracks returns missed?!) Need to make return to break serve. 2nd serve still can go down middle or be more aggressive. 3. Where to stand when you're both at your basline. If opponent on your right at his baseline, you should move to left of centre (may be 3 -4 ft from centre), be on opposite side of court compared to opponent. Centre of court is rarely centre of where they can hit the ball. If opponent at middle you can stay in middle of BL. Watch the pros! 4. Shadowing. Where you should stand when you're at net. Need to be slightly on same side of the court - bisect his two extreme shots. 5.Where to hit when you're both at BL rallying. Cross court is your friend - where do you stand/ move to? Offense/ defense. Down the line =78ft , crosscourt is 82.5ft. More time to recover if hit CC and less misses, lower net. 6. When you're at the net. See 4 for the position. If you volley deep they have short distance to reach ball and can pass you. VOLLEY SHORT, the basics -aim 'middle of opposing service box'. 7. When your opponent comes to the net. 2 shot passing shot strategy. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AVOID THEM! 1st shot, hit on their body low to them - they'll miss or hit short ao you can pass hem on the 2nd shot. They dontbwant a low volley!
I've found that if they're approaching the net and you lob them poorly, they then smash it into the net if they can get to the ball plus it gives you time to get back. My lobs tend not to go out. I guess it's about practicing lobs. Getting a ball low to them when you're on the defensive is quite tricky. You're likely to give them a nice returning opportunity or put it into the net yourself.
As a teenage player in the 80's I played tennis obsessively, but I never had any instruction whatsoever in basic tactics and strategy. I just spent endless hours hitting balls, thinking the more balls I hit, the better I'd get. I was very wrong. In matches, players with weaker strokes beat me all the time. I was always frustrated and getting angry with myself.
Many youtubers and coaches teach you technique but not many teach strategy and honestly that's where i mess up the most...its just not knowing where to be. I appreciate your videos so much! You have a gift in teaching and explaining
Your first tips is really spot on and is so common. I have played with so many players when they always want to try to hit ace on their first serve and their serve is always fault more than 90%. Even when the 10% that land in, at least 80% the opponent can return the serve. Chances they get double fault is 30 percent. SO there is no value to serve so hard for their first serve when they usually just waste their first serve away when they can just serve harder with more confident to land the ball in than hit all out and missed all the time. I also totally agree with returning of serve just to put the ball in play. I have a friend always like to show off his power trying to hit a winner from a serve and he missed most of the time. I feel like telling him just put the ball in play, not easy to hit winner from a serve, the serve come faster and he don't have even time to set up a good strike for winner. All your tips really make sense. Thanks. Gonna show this to my friends. On second thoughts, I better keep this to myself so he don'y have this tactics against me. Hahaha

In my opinion this is the best video of your chanel I ever seen; thank you so much
Thank you so much!!!!
Brillant,thanks! Easy to follow instructions…
I've found that if they're approaching the net and you lob them poorly, they then smash it into the net if they can get to the ball plus it gives you time to get back. My lobs tend not to go out. I guess it's about practicing lobs. Getting a ball low to them when you're on the defensive is quite tricky. You're likely to give them a nice returning opportunity or put it into the net yourself.
this is literally geometry
Thanks for watching!
Awesome teaching.
So happy to help you Susan
Great video, im gonna use this strategies in my matches and see how it goes

So glad to help you Gabriela!
So glad to hear that the strategy videos are helping you!!
Ryan: otra vez PERFECTO. Gracias 🤡

@@2MinuteTennis Thank you
I love you so much 💗
Your first tips is really spot on and is so common. Hahaha
