I'm a pusher, junk baller and many other things. Can hit a 122 mph serve and asking serve that can go either direction that very few that are 4.5 or under can return and I'm 72. That's why I need that shit cuz I can't run that good anymore. If I had my game when I was in my 20s I would have been on the tour with Mac and Connors. Unfortunately where I live there are no longer any tennis players just pickelball players. I have to travel 4 hours to pick up any kind of tennis action. Even then it's getting harder to get any real good hitting partners. Played a top rank high school girl a couple of weeks ago and frustrated her so bad she was almost in tears. Hope tennis makes a comeback before I die of old age.
Super excellent! Very very important this instructional video especially the ending about not moving sideways back after the deep shot. Thanks! Much appreciated
This lesson was VERY VERY GOOD. Breaking down court movement, plotting it over a simple X pattern, now that's something that just might stick! Funny that, in wheelchair tennis, we ALWAY talk about this giant V shape from a point just behind the baseline called The Hub. When hitting a ball in front of us, we always move toward it at a 45 degree angle (and return to The Hub along the same angle). But we never talk about the other side of the X, retrieving deep balls. Only makes sense. Good stuff.
It s a really good video, I get it, its not complex but you don't want to return to the centre, the X needs to be spread a bit more along the baseline as you will be returning on either side of the centre at a least a racquet width
I think we tend to aloow the ball to play us, meaning we wait for the incoming ball instead of going to get it. When we look form the apex and go to the ball (when we can) diagonal movement becomes much more intuitive. Hope this helps!
Absolutely! Moving parallel on the baseline is still a key footwork pattern and one that we will use quite a bit while on court. Implementing moving on a X is all about looking for opportunities to better defend and to improve offense but because it's dependent on the direction of the ball, it can't be used exclusively. Great question! Thanks for reaching out.
how would this interact with recovering to the opposite side of the shot? (the whole not actually returningg to the middle thing?) do i move the x with me? or do i adjust the angles? or both... probs both
Hi Marcos, great question! You're on it, your middle will adust according to your position on court so the X will move as well to some degree. If you're on the outer thirds of the court in a largely defensive postion moving parallel will likley be the only option however. Angles adjust according to position as well. Thanks for watching
It's a very good strategy. Thanks for teaching it. As you said it is important to recover back to the centre so that you won't miss out. My daughter has a match to play now, hopefully it will help her. Have a great day! 🙂
Very simple. Non of you will ever win shit if you are trying to win. Trying to win paralyzes you. Back in the day, I started winning everything in site after I quit worrying about winning. I started winning when I learned how to focus on hitting every shot clean. Unfortunately, I moved from a 3.5 to a 5.0 too quickly and was out of my element at tht level. There are 5.0s that play like 6.0s.
huh, interesting take, ive recently started thinking much more about just hittting the ball better (i shank too many balls) and focusing on seeing the ball through the shot. any tips on how to hit the ball more consistently?
@@marcosvivoni1944Watch videos of Federer. The ball is on its way back to his opponent and his eyes are still looking at his raquet. His focus on his footwork and watching the ball all the way to his raquet is the best I have ever seen. It's the same in every sport that uses a ball. If you look up before you make contact you are guaranteed a shitty shot. Same in golf, baseball, soccer etc. I've played higher levels in all those sports and it's the same in every sport. Then watch Alcaraz and watch how well he mixes up his shots. I can never tell what that guy is gonna do next and if he doesn't hurt himself bad he will be one of the best players in the world very soon.

Always happy to help, glad you enjoyed the instruction!
THIS... THIS is why I've been missing/mistiming all my inside out forehands!! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Happy to help! 👊

Thanks James, appreciate that. I was unaware of the Hub as you reffered to it. Promted a deep dive on wheel chair tennis. Appreciate the nudge. -Nate
First time seeing this idea, will give it a try. Great job, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

100% The X will shift depending on your court position!
Very useful for my singles play. Thank you!
No problem, happy to help my friend.
Gracias !!
Thanks Nate!
Nice Nate !!! Will definitely try this !
Brilliant as always. Great to see you back Nate.
You don't have your wrist protection! :) hope you're doing well with it!
Happy Easter!
Cheers!
M
Thank ya sir! Good to be back. Hope you and fam had a great Easter!
Don’t know why we tend to move laterally so much. Why do we hesitate to move diagonally forward on most balls? Why do you think, Nate?
I think we tend to aloow the ball to play us, meaning we wait for the incoming ball instead of going to get it. When we look form the apex and go to the ball (when we can) diagonal movement becomes much more intuitive. Hope this helps!
Great lesson Nate! Just what I needed to hear and exactly what my coach told me to start working on two weeks ago. Thanks man. Cheers!
Nice, I like your coach already! Nothing better than when a idea is reinforced. Keep battling out there my friend! 💪
Very helpful information, Nate! If I move in this X pattern, do I ever move horizontally along the baseline?
Absolutely! Moving parallel on the baseline is still a key footwork pattern and one that we will use quite a bit while on court. But true is the recreational don’t hit so much baseline, so basically we move at parallel….
You're definitely one of 'The X Men', Nate. To hell with 'Sideways,' this is the way to go from now on.... I hope.
haha, nicest thing anyone has said about me in a long time. (Marvel fan here). Thanks for watching and the feedback Brendan!
I swear Tim and Eric write these videos "We've got a SHAPE, we've got a U, or RAINBOWS." 😅😂

Thanks! I hope you're daughter had a great match!
The middle of the court is rarely the middle of angles an opponent can make.
Very true, the X should adjust on the court according to one's new center.
the coach at where i play tennis me to cut those corners off all the time.
I thought that was Schwartzman lol
To be fair every ball for Schwartzman is above his shoulder... Jkd
😂
Just nitpicking for fun, 5200 was a flop. Probably meant the Atari 2600.
haha..fair enough. The 5200 is what I owned as a kid..perhaps it being a flop is why I still recall it's limitations.
Oversimplified but a pointed instruction and strategy lesson.
Why all these so called trainers have to talk for sooo long. So boring.
