Great job! These neutral balls are certainly the real foundations of the game. I like how simple you make something so difficult for an average player like me. Thanks for showing what to focus on.
Love your tips coach. Thank you. As a rec player without any formal coaching you got me on point, negating myself while moving forward brushing the ball up. One of my bad habits. Thanks again
What a clear, simple articulate way of deconstructing and explaining the fundamentals of tennis match play. Well done!! Please do videos on footwork, forehand and serving as well.
This is so true. I witnessed it a couple of weeks back, and won against a player I kept losing to for years. When I was evaluating the game afterwards I realised that he didn't have many opportunities to attack from inside the court. Funny thing is I won in straight sets, only because he couldn't attack, what a revelation :)
Hi Will! Thumbs up for the well explained tutorials! They are really useful! I guess I have seen 15 of your videos since I discovered you a week ago. Way to go! Best regards from Denmark!
Great video man. One of the methods of practice we employ is hitting a ball to each other we call 'neutral plus'. We go a little over neutral and try to keep the rally going as long as we can. We change direction sometimes but it's a cooperative exercise. I think it helps alot. Fantastic explanations in your videos, been forwarding to the boys at the club.
My coach says my biggest fault is I wait for the ball to come to me, many times I'm late. Very timely advise in this video, excellent instruction - just subscribed 👍🏻🎾
This is really high quality content, I really appreciate how clearly you explain these concepts (really enjoyed your 1hb video as well). Liked and subscribed, look forward to seeing more great videos from you Will.
awesome video.. going out to it is a great key point. Love those Nike's, those are the Zoom and Vapor's baby.. I gotta try a pair, Zooms pack out too much but are comfy, older Vapors were not my jam.. lol
Very good follow through points. I find myself still having to decide to sweep up more or make more front contact. I suppose it does come with time and practice
Great video and practical, useable advice! A very minor point of editing - @the 1:34 mark it shows "Stay light and MODILE..." instead of "mobile". I'm not sure if that is a quick and/or easy fix. Overall great video. Keep up the great work!
Will, I appreciate your teaching style. Your explanations and demonstrations have been incredibly helpful. Is there a technique to extend the arm out? I lift my arm up too quickly and that takes a away the power to generate pace.
Will: here is another one from Singapore: Backhand take back: Obviously we all watched Eubanks incredible run in the UK this season. Notice he hs a very different take back compared to Thiem or other. You have a simple take back: In particular 8:30 high backhand is great to see. Can you elaborate in a video on different take backs please. You have probably noticed alreadty that I have a tendency to analyse single backhands too much ?
Consistent hitting position drives excellent execution. On a personal level what this means for me is conditioning to be, as Will puts it, light on my feet so I can consistently have a uniform stroke. As we age, we lose a step (or two, or three) and we lose uniformity. First comes letting the ball drop, then the reach, and ultimately saying, "Nice shot." So, if I want to play competitively again (which I don't, I want to play for fun) I need to focus on getting back in shape so my body can be in position on every shot to execute the write shot at the right time, and it all starts with being there.
A lot of people were asking, but I was hesitant because I didn't want to be another youtuber pushing merch on people. I think I'll do it soon though if people really want
My tennis teacher/pro keeps telling me, as I'm hitting the ball on the baseline, "Don't back up! Don't back up!" So, let me understand. Should I hit my ground stroke, THEN back up immediately, so that I can move forward into the shot? Problem is, I don't want to be too far back and would like to hold my ground.
Yes you should create a movement cycle of in and back the only time you don't is if you anticipate moving forward off of a solid shot. Here is an example m.ruclips.net/user/shortsZiD7xuTZJ5c
I always find it challenging to meet a ball that bounces with a lot of spin and kicking up in to my strike zone, so I find myself waiting for the ball to come towards me in order to start setting up for my shots. Any suggestions on how handle these types of balls?
will was just explaining it: take the last 10% by moving towards the ball. so you are set up already and yo cover the last 10% by approaching / moving into the ball. look for the bounce and try to hit it early. play with this until you are feeling comfortable. this would be my take on it... hope it helps
I did a video a little while ago where I use a zone drill that I think will work for you😁 let me know if this helps m.ruclips.net/video/vxxk96DxwsA/видео.html
The main problem when you are between beginner and intermediate is when your opponent alternates between strong balls and neutral balls : when the neutral one comes after 2 or 3 strong balls, most of the time we don’t realise it and we don’t engage the body enough so the ball finishes in the net. Does your machine ball alternates aleatory the speed of the ball ?
Hi, do u have in project, a video " how to make forehand like nadal " i mean how to make power spin hight hight ball, i try to do it, but its make pain on shoulder, maybe i should use more the wrist :o
@@ironwilltennis wow thank you, hope its will help the other too; i try to change my grip too for get more spin, but its too short. I noticed its more difficult for adversary the high ball than " power ball because its give rythm "
What about down the line shots, should my return be back down the line or crosscourt because usually I find my opponent is not expecting to down the line shot coming back at them?
Line to line is a good offensive change up, I use it often actually, the purpose of my statement was only on remaining neutral. But in general line to cross 😁
Very situational but I would hit a short angle cross court shot back so opponent have a lot of ground to run, sometimes even hitting some winners So don't just hit down the line when opponent is not out of position or it's like suicide 🤣
@@CarlUsana-o3l That's probably the best response possible, even though if you were watching the Ons Jabeur match yesterday, she was constantly catching her opponent off guard by responding to most down the lines with her own DTL, usually for a winner!
He's demonstrating the important of using your body weight in driving the ball deep to keep your opponent from attacking you. He is using neutral stance groundstrokes where there is more linear transfer of energy as opposed to the rotational energy used in the open stance. You could use open stance forehands to keep your balls deep as well when you have less time.

I talk about neutral balls with clinic students all the time and they have no clue what im talking about!!!🙄🙄🙄
That's because neutral balls aren't impressive and don't get attention 😁😁😁 exactly why I made this video
any reason for the limited amount of body rotation in your shots
Because he's returning in the open stance. Unit turn still happens, but direction is out in front, being a neutral ball.
Will’s shot is super heavy even he is only taking it easy
