I have knitted for literally decades and almost always use the long tail cast on. Today is the day I learned that there is a way to do it purlwise! I had no idea. Thanks, Kika!

Kika, from the bottom on my heart I wish to THANK YOU so much for all the time, effort, dedication, and love you pour into your content! Your warm, lovely energy pours through and through (all the way here to the US) and I'm always left feeling like I can tackle challenging to me now projects like these with comfort and ease, especially with your wonderful tutorials (WOW, do they ever help so much). You are seen and appreciated! I will definitely put your Wishbone Sweater on my project list to make after all of the gift knitting I need to tackle at the moment. Also, I can already tell you're going to be a wonderful mother. It is TOTALLY natural to be nervous and apprehensive when you don't know what you don't know but know that this is what also will make you a great Mom. Our children are precious and you now have a chance in a lifetime to evolve into another version of yourself. I think you'll see what I mean when your baby boy enters the world! Enjoy the experience, all of it, as it unfolds. Be kind and patient with yourself. Practice radical self-care and love. When the time is right, go out out on day dates with your partner. There is no manual for how to raise a child nor any preparation for how it can change your life. I've never experienced anything greater and now that my Girls are young adults ladies, I really can't believe how fast the time has gone! It has truly been the best thing I've ever done! You're going to be amazing! 💖

I was recently shopping in Stephen & Penelope in AMS (on holiday) and the shop girl was wearing the Wishbone Sweater. It was so fun to ask "is that the Wishbone?" and she was equally delighted to say "YES!" I loved seeing it in person. I bought the pattern when it was first released but seeing it for myself and now, having this lovely video will make it even more fun to knit.

So I just started watching this tutorial while I'm knitting something else because I saw someone make this on tiktok and am obsessed with the pattern (I have never knitted a full sweater, but recently learned to do cable pattern) and then you come around with the different long-tail cast on for the purl stitches and I've been knitting socks for so long just with the knit stitch long-tail cast on! Most of my knitting knowledge just comes from what I initially learned from my mother and now from very specific Google and RUclips searches, so I never came across this. I'll definitely be trying this for my next pair of socks!
And also I'll knit this sweater... eventually 😁

Hi Kika, love that sweater! At the beginning with these short rows I wondered why not to start in the middle with that double stitches to avoid the wonky line. In that way you will knit the long short rows first and then the shorter ones. With that you will have the double stitches right before the cables and hide them.
Never the less, the sweater suits you very well. Thanks a lot for your videos!

Could I fold down & sew it for a shorter wider collar? I can't have something around my neck but love this. I'm thinking keep stitch count and everything the same and it might work but honestly I have zero clue having only knitted 2 sweaters ever lol

Every time I have seen this sweater, I always think to myself that I could never do this. I still am not sure if I can, but at least I am now at the point that I’m willing to try to knit this!!
***BUT I do have questions concerning the collar of the sweater. I have not yet done German short rows but have been wanting to incorporate this shaping into my knitting. You have explained and demonstrated this so clearly in this tutorial that I am now confident that I can accomplish this shaping into this as well as other sweaters. Thank you for that!! Still not at my questions (lol). In addition to wanting to incorporate German short row shaping, I have also become very interested in doing the folded over collar. I just love that rounded edge at the top of the collar. Can this be done along with doing German short rows? Or would you recommend not doing that and just having the cast-on edge as the top of the collar? If it is possible to do both, how would I accomplish that? Would I first do the German short rows just as you have shown here and then continue to do enough additional rows in ribbing to double the height of the collar, or do I have to do something else with regard to shaping so as not to lose the effect of the short row shaping? THEN, once I would have doubled the height of the collar, how would you recommend finishing the collar? Would it be best to sew down the collar (ugh, I am not fond of sewing!)? Or can the collar be knitted down? I wasn’t sure if this could work because of how the ribbing continues into the yoke of the sweater and then into the cable pattern. Would it show from the outside…or can it be knitted down in the ribbing pattern so that it’s invisible from the outside? Is this possible or am I asking for too much?
I know I have asked so many questions within this comment, and I so appreciate you considering to answer all of this. Thank you in watching your advance for doing so.
I also have to make mention of your pregnancy. In the video when you made the announcement, I just knew - as soon as you said you had an announcement that that is what it was going to be! I couldn’t wait for you to get to the point in the video when you actually did say that you are expecting! I am so excited for you! I have so enjoyed watching you plan for your wedding, you knitting and crocheting your dress, and watching you sharing parts of your wedding. I’ve really enjoyed watching how both your personal and professional life have progressed since you started sharing your videos with us. Your designs have also shown the changes as you’ve progressed - with more shaping and more intricate patterns. So I was so excited when you announced that you’re expecting! And then I knew pretty quickly that you’re going to have a boy! There’s a certain facial change that seems to be pretty common among those of us who have boys. As soon as I saw that change in your face, I knew it!…and couldn’t wait until you actually did share it with us! I’ve been very amused watching you knit for the baby! Some of what you have made probably won’t fit him until he is a year old! But that is OK, because the smaller things will be outgrown so quickly that he probably will get to wear them only one time. So it’s good that you’re making some things that are a lot larger. This baby will be well dressed!
Thank you for sharing your life with us as well as your designs. I almost feel like an aunt watching you progress in your life.

Gorgeous sweater, but because I’m tiny …. 5 feet tall ….. I look much better with set in or raglan sleeves. I would love this with that modification. PLEASE! ❤

Was really waiting for this tutorial because this will be my first cable project! I totally fell in love when I saw the pattern, the design is fab! I have a question: Is it possible to work only 6 or 8 German Short Rows? The shape the 12 rows give to the collar is a bit too much for my taste. Would love a shape between the version without and the one with. And if I work less than 12, is it possible to add "normal" rows after GSR to get the lenght or should I knit more rows and end with my GSRs? Hope you will give me some advice!
And one size questions as well: Are you working always the same size? The brown and the greyish looks much bigger than the off white version. Thank you in advance and have a lovely 1st Advent!

I love the design and this is a really nice project to knit, but unfortunately my first time around wet blocking stretched the sweater out A LOT, it ended up super oversized and now that I am almost done with my second, I’m scared to wet block in case this one ends up too large as well. I’d like to have one that’s more fitted, so I am wondering if steaming would be enough to relax the cable pattern?

Dear Kutovakika, sorry to be such a pain, I am very confused with your chartA pattern, can you answer me the following questions please?
    1) On the 5th row with the start of the twisted cable stitch pattern, do you just make a double stitch at the beginning and end of the round not at the shoulder seems?
    2) Do you repeat the pattern in the red box where the two blue boxes are?
    3) Do you just knit and purl the 7 stitches as normal on the shoulder seems?
    4) Also do you repeat the whole row pattern in the chart on the front of the sweater? (Because you just shown you've done the cable pattern on the back in the video?
Will be very much appreciated for your answers and looking forward to them soon xx

I love this sweater. Could I use one strand of the knitting for olive heavy merino in stead?

Really, really beautiful design and yarn! I do have a question that I was not quite sure about - is the Knitting for Olive merino the light (fingering) weight or the heavy (I think DK) weight? You mentioned 2 strands of merino and one of mohair held together (so 3 strands held together) - is this how you are coming up with a heavier weight merino yarn? Thanks in advance for any answers from anyone. I would love to give this a try.
