Based on my knowledge and experience with the GBU-10 Paveway II(I was a LRS/D operatore with some FAC experience), if it hits the ground, it craters and takes everything out in a 50-75m radius from impact. However, if it hits something above ground, it not only evaporates that but acts like an air-burst munition, spreading the blast more outward for a much greater distance. If the DCS model is accurate, you hit the MIG-31 directly and the blast went off at 15-20ft above ground and went outward with a greater effect than if it hit the tarmac and cratered out.
I have also noticed blitz-like effects in the sky flying the F15e only, and only at night. So I do think it is a graphical bug. Having a 1000 nits OLED screen in a dark room and at night... i was severely startled. All 6 times. Not seen anything about it from others, so not said anything. Thought it was a defect with my monitor
Night fighting is so freakin' AWESOME! (when you're watching someone else do it and you're not chokin' and yankin' your joystick and throttle quadrant, sweatin' bullets!) Thanks for these flights Growlin'!
0:49 ngl that did actually look cool, so don't worry about the court-martial bc I'm sure that means the judge will be lenient Cheers and thanks for consistently pumping out so much quality content for us all to enjoy! Much love and respect from East Coast Canada
Cue the Pirate’s Line from Captain Phillips “Listen to me.. I am the captain now” it’s all I could think of when you said “I guess I’m the Captain now” lol
Nice video and fun to watch! I’m glad your seeing those white flashes, well no glad its happening just glad someone else is seeing them besides me! It seems to happen all the time now but much more noticeable at night. Anyway, great video!🤙
What I noticed was that the bomb came in parallel to the line of planes and at a rather shallow angle so when it hit the ground and exploded part of the blast got shot backward off the crater while the rest of the shrapnel and such got carried forward by the momentum of the bombs' lateral velocity.
Could the flashes be related to the new'ish release of DLSS? I searched the DCS forum and nothing is mentioned about lightening. On your previous video I noticed some circular artifacts surrounding the explosions of planes when they take a missile hit. Consider get with DCS tech support to see if there is something in your settings/PC that DCS does not like. They will be happy to help you out. You are their biggest draw!
DLSS creates artifacts by its nature, but this looks more like you had daylight for a fraction of a second. Could be a Reshade glitch as well, GS uses that to increase saturation.
My thoughts on the 2000 pounder and the amount of damage it did around those Mig31s… Since they were being refueled there was probably all sorts of gas vapor in the air so when that bomb exploded it just ignited all that vapor and everything around there went up with it
Really depends on the fuzing delay of the weapon also. Instantaneous will put more above ground frag out to do fun stuff. 10ms delay makes nice craters, but attenuates the blast to a more vertical frag pattern. I am really impressed with DCS. Fun videos. Keep them coming!
Wow man, I wasn't subscribed and been watching for a while! I appreciate all the video and the hours of entertainment you've provided. Can't wait what the new year will bring
10:48 in this scenario could you use the full power of the F-15 and go up and fast? In which circumstances would it top abilities (65000 ft, Mach 2.5) be on use? Thank you.
The chain of explosions was likely modeling of secondary effects. Fortunately, for legal purposes, the PIC is only responsible for CDE concerning primary weapons effects. Not the pilots problem if a couple fully loaded fuel trucks are in the blast radius of the released ordinance.
Day one of asking why so many people are counting the days of something they have been requesting?.... Awesome video, DCS really does look incredible atm. Lighting would be nice!
I'd love to see a video of trying to intercept the venerable SR-71 Blackbird with the best technology 2023 has to offer. Does an updated MiG-31 with R-37s even stand a chance at Mach 3+ and climbing through angels 80? Modernised F-14 with AMRAAM-D3s, AMRAAM-ERs, or speculative AIM-260s?
Possibly had ordinance on the ramp to re-arm the Migs that detonated. Sort of like when U.S. Navy divebombers hit the Japanese carriers during the Battle of Midway. I think it was like 5 bombers sank three carriers.
Probably because of the nice ambience? But I can tell you, actually flying night missions is quite stressfull! In this Vid, GS has to juggle enemy fighters, SAMs, ground strike mission, the state of his teams and their objectives, etc. Can be really fun tho.
Or more to the point. Would a pilot in fighter dogfight differently (more like what you guys do online)? I think what you guys do is the future of dogfighting.
Dunno... A 2,000-pounder is pretty big. F-105s used to carry mostly 500-pounders, and they were going against bridges. Maybe that 2,000-pounder just took out everything.
Would love for you to do the MiG-21 Bison vs F-16 fight again but with you flying the MiG-21 You actually had to almost get to the merge in the F-16 which is impressive for a third gen aircraft. Wanna see what it'll do with you at the controls.
Mind those Mig-21s were modded. And I dont wanna hate on mods, but they tend to be kinda rough and usually overperforming by a ton (national pride, hyping of weapons, lack of documentation, etc). Happens on either side, but some russian tech especially, eg the SU-57 is pure magic. (F22 stealth also makes no sense tbf) Imo why official modules or more conservative mods (A4, to some degree F-4C/104) tend to be more interesting. Its just closer to reality.
If other might 31s were refueling as that bomb hit then everything within few 100ft would have been blown up. Very volatile stuff. The over pressure would have expelled more than enough fumes to combust.

Hey, is there anyway that you can do more sunrise, sunset, darkness, kind of missions and under different weather conditions
Day 67 of asking for A-10 vs F-86, or vs a series of different generations of jet fighter.
F-86 vs A-4
Mig-15 vs A-4
I know it's hard to get a group of people together, but I'd love to see 4 on 4.
F-15s undefeated in combat for 30 years. One flight with GS...
Loooool I had nothing to do with it man. Don’t drag me into this.

Good call. It was also during refueling operations. Ideal strike opportunity.
Unfortunately DCS doesn’t model any kind of splash damage I wanted a big ole fire ball😂
So dope
I just heard the F-15E will offically recieve jdams next patch..hope to see more F-15E videos soon!
That will be a welcome change.
That would be great. Do you know if they ever used Mavericks?
@@hesh7754Yup the F-15E can carry 6 Mavericks 👍🏻
@@Harakoni_Warhawks you sure? Ive only seen them carry 2.
F-15E ops over the Sinai Map is awesome... I love the longer missions like this, especially at night. Great job!
That wasn't lightning. That was Maverick in his Tomcat inverted taking a selfie. 😂
Lmaoool
With a Polaroid
Please add more shots of you landing after you complete a mission, I don't know why but I find them insanely satisfying to me.
I'd love to see some failed landing videos too haha
This historical footage just showed what was probably the first F-15 shot down in combat. Remarkable.
14:35
Not lightning (sadly) but a visual glitch that I found to occur when using the NAVFLIR.
upvote
I've encountered it when looking closely at the tpod display.

15:30 I think those flashes are some kid shining a laser pointer at you ;)
Great visuals on this. The setting sun, night time cockpit - really well done.

Another day, another random idea: Engine failures mid-dogfight? For both planes so it's not wildly unfair.
GS has compressor stalls in the F14A all the time😂
Well I wouldn’t say all the time lol I’ve mostly trained it out but ya it happens and it’s always annoying when it does lol.
@@GrowlingSidewinderI think what he's saying is we want a pre-planned engine sabotage video, to see how a pilot faces a bandit with loss of thrust
@@caseyhille8293ever seen his Viggen videos?
LOL this would be amazing content
Can we just give props (jet nozzles?) for this bada$$ outro? As always, amazing vid, flying and on-the-go analysis.
The afterburner at dusk looked incredible.
New thumbnail style? Looks awesome! Thanks for all the awesome content, GS!
"Why is no one doing their job?!??" -GS. LOLZ.... Awesome content as always.

thank you very much.
" You guys only got one job and now I'm the Capt. so do it. That 300 almost got me ."
That Roll above the other Eagle at the start looked pretty damn smooth if you ask me
Another great video GS, the F15E lead's last thoughts were probably your fancy roll over his canopy the get to his starboard side. He died happy!
Nice video and fun to watch! I’m glad your seeing those white flashes, well no glad its happening just glad someone else is seeing them besides me! It seems to happen all the time now but much more noticeable at night. Anyway, great video!🤙
I've been getting those same "lightning" flashes in my A-10CII missions lately. Seems like a bug.
I've noticed random white flashes in my DCS since the update as well, even during broad daylight. Seems like a graphical thing...
Awesome mission! I love the sunset colors.
11:10 our pets heads are falling off!!
I was just thinking i missed you doing strike eagle stuff. I love it when you feature my favorite module, thanks for the vid and thumbs up
Very cool thumbnail! Great job with the artwork.

night flights are always fun, love that sunset
Loving the thumbnail bro looks like it could be a movie poster
Definitely the best thumbnail ive seen from this channel
This is the most chaotic gs video EVER and I love it
Yeah, like the sunset w flir off. Like night w flir off too.
"We lost that F15 leader..." Like we didn't know who the main character was...
I love the comedic timing of the SA-3 😂
F-16s were a day late and a dollar short
They were refueling and refitting when your Paveway impacted.
GS multitasking like a masterchef.

I also had this glitch, but i havent dlss, im playing on 1650 S
Didn't look like there was a storm in the area for it to make lightning anyway.
DLSS creates artifacts by its nature, but this looks more like you had daylight for a fraction of a second.

Yeah...... what he said ;)
Amazing that the DCS writers thought ahead and accounted for that!
Really depends on the fuzing delay of the weapon also. Instantaneous will put more above ground frag out to do fun stuff. 10ms delay makes nice craters, but attenuates the blast to a more vertical frag pattern. I am really impressed with DCS. Fun videos. Keep them coming!
They were also getting rearmed, so there's that too
Nothing of this is implemented in DCS
OK - so a vid on F-15E 'versus' MiG-31. Good start. But I STILL want to see a guns-only flyingpigfight between the two.
This was awesome, more of this please!
Be an interesting night at the OC talking to the charlie pilots.

The chain of explosions was likely modeling of secondary effects. Fortunately, for legal purposes, the PIC is only responsible for CDE concerning primary weapons effects. Not the pilots problem if a couple fully loaded fuel trucks are in the blast radius of the released ordinance.
GBU can be programmed to blow up above the target, which would create the multi target explosions you saw.
Guessing those planes were getting refuelled so those were fuel trucks and it chained.
One of these days I'll upgrade my PC and join you all 😅
love the thumbnail
At 13:54 that wasnt lightening it was actually a flash from a speed camera catching you going 271 in a 45
Opps, leader got hit, Instant Field promotion. Last Man standing
Day one of asking why so many people are counting the days of something they have been requesting?.... Awesome video, DCS really does look incredible atm. Lighting would be nice!
Because one guy requested an Apache vs. Su-57 fight and after 157 days of requesting it every day, GS finally obliged.
That’s a common thing in RUclips comments. It’s just a way of documenting that you’ve been asking for something for a long time.
Some people should just get a life
would love to see some more night fights like this :)

It was definitely a chain reaction by the looks of it.
Have also been trying to figure out if lightning added or was a gfx glitch during last night flight..
i’d love for footage of landing, or even just your wheel touching the runway before the outro

" I don't want to waste this 2000lb bomb" US Tax payer about to say thanks " so I'm gonna drop it" lol.

Beautiful visuals in this video. Night missions definitely prettier.
I believe that when your bomb sets off other bombs, it’s called “sympathetic detonation.”
"Nobody's doing their job" just like a real world office 😂
Possibly had ordinance on the ramp to re-arm the Migs that detonated. Sort of like when U.S. Navy divebombers hit the Japanese carriers during the Battle of Midway. I think it was like 5 bombers sank three carriers.
That was Thor’s hammer powering up that 2,000 pounder
Some nice Screenshots saved 😁😁😁
you daisy chained the bomb. they hard armaments sitting next to it
Why do I find the night missions to be RELAXING? :)
Probably because of the nice ambience? But I can tell you, actually flying night missions is quite stressfull! In this Vid, GS has to juggle enemy fighters, SAMs, ground strike mission, the state of his teams and their objectives, etc.
Can be really fun tho.
Got a few minutes into this video before I realized I had my playback speed set to 75%. Thought you were drunk at first. 😅

Right On Great Video
Gonna have to call this mission Operation FUBAR
Lol- GS... what happened was that was a big ass 2000 lb football not a little 500 pounder that everyone is used too
Question: what is does the star of david icon on the HUD stand for?
I believe it indicates that "primary target is in range"
Speaking of night fighting, how about a re-creation of the Dambusters mission from WWII?
Dunno... A 2,000-pounder is pretty big. F-105s used to carry mostly 500-pounders, and they were going against bridges. Maybe that 2,000-pounder just took out everything.

Can you do a video testing the f35 in a a10 role. I know the f35 was suppose to take on some of those roles.
